NFL Discussion Thread: Pats win SB XLIX. Offseason begins

Guess #Carrbage deserves to win the OROY over OBJ since QB is just so damn important in the NFL.

Go look through the 1st round picks of the NFL redraft thread and it'll say everything about how people truly feel about the value of positions in this league.

Pay attention Especially to who the first pick was, and who picked him.

Oh, and he explained exactly why he did so when he made the pick.

But the tune has changed now.

So you believe #ParkTheCarr deserves OROY over OBJ?

So you're going to ignore everything I just pointed out?

I was referring to you sarcastically pointing out how important QB's are.

Even the guy whose name is JJ Watt on this board still drafted a QB @ #1 ...over JJ watt.

And what did he say when he did so?

"man it's hard to pass up on my boy, but it's a QB DRIVEN LEAGUE. It's just the truth." (Paraphrasing, but you can go see the exact explanation he gave).

But now... it's not so QB driven anymore. Apparantly that goes out the window when trying to argue why Watt is MVP

Just because the league is QB driven doesn't mean a QB is the MVP every single year.

It may not.
But it does mean that a great QB is more valuable to have in TODAYS LEAGUE than any other position, especially defensive positions.

Again, i wouldnt be mad if Demarco won. He literally and figuratively carried that Cowboys team to a 12-4 playoff record.

It doesnt automatically mean anything.
But it does show the value of an elite QB compared to an elite-anything else, especially elite-defensive players.

It doesnt mean that only QB's are great
You guys keep answering with such extreme questions or statements.

Again, Watt may be the best overall FOOTBALL PLAYER in the league...but that IS NOT what the MVP award is for.
The best individual statistical players on both sides of the ball receive OPOY and DPOY awards.

MVP is for the highest valued player from their teams ACHIEVED success.
It doesnt HAVE to be a QB.

AP got it, and Demarco has a STRONG chance of getting it this year WITHOUT the rushing record.

Romo, Rodgers, Brady, Demarco, Watt ALL deserve consideration.
But only the first 4 deserve to win because they gave their team enough influence to win enough games to at least reach the playoffs.

That isnt the ONLY thing that matters, but its a strong piece of the puzzle.

I dont see how ive said anything that is extreme or untrue.

MVP doesnt mean you had the best individual season as a football player. It means you were more valuable to your teams SUCCESS than any other player.

Rivers should demand a trade. I want to see this guy go to Buffalo or Cleveland. Houston or the Jets wouldn't be bad either.

Phil would enjoy the AFCN, he seems to fit that mold

He wouldn't leave the beautiful sunny skies of San Diego for Buffalo snowstorms.

Phil in Buffalo this season would have been scary as hell. That team would be a legit contender. Thats a top 3 AFC team automatically.

Watt should be in the MVP discussion but I doubt he evens wants to accept it after failing to make the playoffs

That's just the kind of player he is

I didn't say Demarco would, I said I wouldn't be MAD if he did.

I would understand Brady, Rodgers, Romo OR Demarco winning.

I wouldn't agree with Watt.

But I'm not discrediting him AT ALL. He's a monster man. That specific award IMHO just needs a stronger influence from its player.

Even Strahan didn't win it when he broke the sack record. It may not be fair but that's the criteria voters have.

Like you said, it is what it is.

Wouldn't mind seeing Phil go to Houston if you guys wanna give us an RG3 type package of draft picks to start rebuilding :pimp:

But that's all that Strahan did that year -- break the sack record. He didn't do anything else that JJ Watt does on the football field.

He's had the best defensive year since LT won MVP.

Last defensive player to receive an MVP vote is James Harrison and his legendary 2008 campaign :smokin

(Got three)

maybe this should be a sign for those who think they know football..

what jj watt is doing as a 5 tech is simply amazing

"During Seattle’s six-game winning streak, foes have scored three touchdowns. That’s one every eight quarters."

Good lord. :x :x :x :x

Looks like one AP voter is splitting his vote between Rodgers and Watt. :pimp:

"I covered Lawrence Taylor in 1986, the last time a defensive player won the MVP, and I believe this Watt season is better and more explosive than Taylor’s tremendous year 28 seasons ago. Shouldn’t that count for something?"

Just finished reading that too.
I respect Peter King.

Good read. I can dig all of his reasoning for splitting his vote.

Wouldn't surprise me if the Seahawks make it to the SB on just defense alone
Rooting for my Panthers still to beat the odds :smokin
