Mercedes is launching its new coupe in two trims, both packing the brand's new 4.0-liter, twin-turbocharged V8 with dry-sump lubrication, dubbed the M178. The standard GT boasts a healthy 456 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque.Preliminary figures from the company claim that it can sprint to 60 miles per hour in 3.9 seconds and carry on to an electronically limited top speed of 189 mph.

If that's not enough speed, the GT S makes 503 hp and 479 pound-feet to reach 60 in an estimated 3.7 seconds all the way to a limit of 193 mph.

Daimler is preparing to launch its new performance flagship, the Mercedes-AMG GT. Succeeding and slotting below the current SLS AMG, the new GT is anticipated to take aim squarely at the Porsche 911.

These "teasers" are getting old.... Page me when they're ready to show off the actual car.

Come back in August.

I think it's awesome they are trying their hand at a 911 competitor, I hope it's a 911/911S instead of a911 Turbo though, I'd love for this to be below $100k.

I thought the new NSX will have a hybrid/plug-in engine? Wouldn't it be more like NSX vs i8. I don't remember what engine NSX is suppose to get.

I believe the the AMG GT is expected to have a twin turbo V8?

Rfx you are spot on

Nsx has a v6 then 2 electric motors.

Ahhh, if that's the case, I'd likely go with the Benz about 9 times out of 10. I really would not even consider a hybrid engine unless it's the 981 or the P1, at least not yet, even the i8 is a bit iffy to me.

It's not going to be twice as much, the SLS is twice as much and they said this is suppose to be much cheaper.

I know that AMG Won't release a manual transmission in the USA. Is that the same case for Europe?

^I read years ago that the guy who started/runs AMG is a huge fan of left foot braking so they'll always be auto. It's a lot harder to do that with a manual.
