Not that I disagree but idk it's hard to say the XI is a very iconic shoe one of my favorites.

I feel Christmas has a big part in why XI's continue to sell out over and over

But really how many are they really making a year 150K or more?
I don't doubt Christmas has something to do with it, but it is still an iconic shoe.  Part of its appeal is the design and the other part of it is the hype it will sell no matter what time of the year

It's all about marketing B. That's it.
That whole aura about Jordan as a man is ALL the image marketing created.
In reality, dude isn't a great person at all but he's marketed as a god.

I am sure you meant isnt but I get that.  But I would argue its more than that, its the feel people had about Jordan from the way he played.  Now I know some of the young kids never saw Jordan but the knowledge is passed down and they constantly here about him in relation to Lebron and others.  And I know firsthand MJ is an a

Anyone else see the lows in person and think they look cheap? Something about that mesh material they used imo

 word. The other night I was reading all these different stories about Jordan being a D-Bag... never heard about the Chamillionaire encounter :wow:

You explained the same situation that the youth could have nostalgia wise when it comes to today's athletes. The youth don't have the same memories that we have about Jordans. Memories that make certain models significant.

They have stuff like lebron winning his chips and his playoff accolades. Nike hasn't capitalized with those stories yet. No retros with nicknames like first games or NYC triple double or any IX X packs for his rings. No MVP double packs or whatever you want to say.

And if you don't believe it's marketing.... How in the world is there any hype for the 45 jordan Xs that are about to drop?

Jordan is superstitious and hates the number 45 but he dropped 55 in them so people on board.

ITS ALL MARKETING.

I'm not sure how many of you REALLY remember the first time Jordan wore the XI, but they were hardly popular or iconic. He wore them in Bulls playoff series loss to the Orlando Magic, then he even had to rock a pair of Penny's at the United Center. The next season (start of 3-peat 2.0) was when he wore them all season. But still, they were met with much criticism because they were so outside the norm between the nylon and patent uppers. We as fans made them iconic for whatever reason, the sneaker buying public has given them more history than MJ. This could very well happen with a LeBron model at some point as well...Champ Elite X? Just an example, but the retro phase is what boosted the AJXI, no reason Bron couldn't have the same.

bigj505 bigj505 is 150% right...MARKETING. That is Nike's BIGGEST strength of the last 10 years...not innovative product.

I do believe its about marketing I was trying to correct a mistake I thought you made in saying it isn't, my bad.  But I know its about marketing hence why I acknowledged Mj is not the man they portray him to be.  I guess my point is getting muddled so I will make it plain, I am sure they will retro Lebrons why wouldnt they?  I am saying his shoes will never hold the generational significance of jordan's.  I am saying there will never be another line like Jordan's.  Lebrons may very well sell well as Retros but they wont touch what Jordan has done.

Wasn't that the year they went 72-10 is that not history?  And maybe I am regionally biased but the 11's were EVERYWHERE that year around Chicago and Detroit.  I will not argue that the significance of that model has not been blown out of proportion but that is just one of many of the Jordan's that sell extremely well.  Thats the thing Jordan was the first to really do it big with sneakers his shoes are on a whole other level for various reasons.  Marketing is one them no doubt but its also the fact that culturally his shoes changed things and they continue to be relevant 30yrs later.  Again Lebrons will retro but I don't think they will be as successful as Jordan's.  And in terms of assigning shoes to different memories will not some of those memories be splintered because of the team change?  Lets say he never wins a ship in Cleveland what would be the significance of his later CW's?

He's a saint compared to MJ
Most definitely that we can completely agree on.   To be honest I didn't even like Mj growing up, I grew up a Pistons fan so..yea it was the Bad Boys then the Grant Hill teal jersey era.  My other fav player at the time was Penny, had no love for MJ.

dafilman dafilman I'm not really worried about if he can be MJ. My point was that he could probably have his own sub brand at some point or another. MJs story was a perfect storm that can't be replicated.

That incident is the reason I stopped purchasing Jordans
MJ one of the best ever but personality wise.. terrible. There still select Jordan's I want but I still even hesitate with those

I separate the player and the person. Nobody is perfect. Also, everybody has terrible moments so stones can't be thrown.

The only thing that will stop me from buying Jordan's is the stupid price hikes.

True, the price hike is the icing on the cake I'm not paying more for something I feel they should've been doing from the jump

*edit* nevermind... this is supposed to be about Lebron and his twelfth shoe

if Jordan was revealed to be a pedophile would you still wear his shoes?
Didn't Kobe mess with that underage girl that was working at the hotel and people still buy his shoes?
