Going to head out for a trip in August. Probably a Thursday through Sunday type trip. I'm looking for suggestions on where to stay. There are hotels downtown, some say the gaslamp district. I was also looking at hotels in Coronado. What are the pros and cons of those areas? Also, what is there to do other than the zoo and SeaWorld? We're against animals in captivity so none of that? I visited San Diego when I was younger but didn't really get to experience the city. I do remember loving it though. I'm goin with my girl, and we're in out mid 20's if that matters. Thanks fellas.

What's your budget ? When I travel in state I always use hotwire.com and have not had a bad experience. The last time I paid $80/night for a 2 queen bed + small kitchen room at an extended stay type hotel in hotel circle.

If you really don't care about the hotel being fancy I highly recommend hotwire. Go for 3.5 stars and up. I've never stayed in gas lamp because it's way above my price range and I don't care much for having to pay for parking my car at the hotel.

Also will you have a car ? San Diego is not as spread out as LA but I think you need a car. If you're considering Coronado hotel circle is best bang for your buck. It's 1 minute away from the freeway that takes you everywhere, I'd look into that.

Things to do, consider going to petco park for a game, it's an amazing park even if you don't like baseball. it's literally in the middle of downtown. Chargers game is fun tooa NDC heap if you go for preseason. Very surreal. Other Than that gas lamp has a lot of bars to check out. And don't forget the beaches.

The wife and I stayed in the Gaslamp Quarter in april.  The car stayed park for the 2days we were there, everything we wanted to do was within walking distance (mostly just eating and drinking).  When you make your hotel reservation put in the notes that its your honeymoon, they should give you a nice upgrade. We stayed at the Hilton next to Hardrock, about $240( included parking and wifi) a night got us the top floor with a nice view.

… Going in late June-early July.  Staying in the Gaslamp quarter.  Any help is appreciated guys!

I would recommend look for hotels outside of the gaslamp or Coronado. Those are very expensive areas but if you are willing to venture in to chula vista national city u can find good hotels. The transport system in San Diego is TOP NOTCH and u can use that money you saved to enjoy the city.

Balboa Park is bonkers with stuff to do and see, Gaslamp is full of places to see and do.

I'm heading down to SD for my birthday with my buddies (prob 5-6 guys). Any recommendations on places to stay?

I have been looking at airbnb and trying to find something as close to Gaslamp as possible. Any surrounding neighborhoods you guys recommend? We will be there mainly to just party and have a good time, also going to catch a Padres game.

We will have a car or two but I'd prefer to use public transportation whenever possible. Looking to spend between $700-1000 total for 3 nights for rooms.

Thanks.

Never mind, found a spot in the heart of Gaslamp for a good price. Recommendations on bars/clubs/etc. to hit up?

Thanks.

I've stayed in Carlsbad, Downtown SD, Coronado and Gaslamp.

Parking prices are a ***** bro, so find one of those like parking lot places where you can leave your car overnight for a couple bucks.

I'm a family man now so had my wife and daughter we did all the family friendly things, so I have no insight on bars and clubs.

Coronado is always cool to get those bikes and roam around the island.

Phils BBQ is a cant miss, Lucha Libre sucks, you're better off going to Tijuana a couple minutes down and getting some tacos.

Balboa park to go walk around and chill.

Thanks for the heads up man.

Yeah, I was concerned about parking but hopefully I can find a spot for about $20/day.

Any updates on this? I'm actually planning a last minute trip with my girlfriend and some friends. We're in our mid-20s, mainly looking for good beaches, bars, clubs, and restaurants. Any recommendations? I'd be down to spend about 300 or so a night as far as hotels go.

Everytime I'm in San Diego I have to have a burrito from Trujillos near SDSU
Just went this past weekend and got the Sigma Pi burrito :smokin
