In an MMA fight, would Ronda Rousey beat Floyd Mayweather?

Ronda gets hit with a lot of clean shots in her fights. If it's one area in which she's still improving, it's her striking. Her bread and butter is getting someone either up against the cage or off-balance, then she judo slams the **** out of them.

There's a huge difference between getting punched in the face by Miesha Tate, and getting punched in the face by Floyd Mayweather. Just saying.
Yea that was my point. People are acting like, "an MMA fight" means a fight that excludes punches. Floyd still has his greatest tool. His fists. They aren't wrestling each other. She has to eat punches and her face would get broken within a few shots. Come on man

She's an Olympian in Judo.

There are PLENTY of people you've never heard of in the worlds of Judo, Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu etc. that are as elite in their field as Floyd is in his.

Yeah in the WOMEN'S division. You guys are underestimating the difference between a man and a woman. You really are.

Another thing...Floyd Mayweather, in professional sports, is probably in the top 1% of guys who have close to inhuman reflexes. As much as you'd like to give ROusey credit for Judo, grappling, etc., I just don't think that she's up to handling the speed in which Mayweather moves. I really don't think it would be a contest. He'd probably toy with her.

Wrong. She doesn't have to eat a single punch to take him down. A low ankle pick and Floyd is on his way to snap city.

Go and watch randy couture vs james toney. James toney didn't land a single punch. There is absolutely nothing mayweather, or any boxer for that matter that hasn't spent their entire life grappling, can do to stop the takedown; it's inevitable when your facing grapplers these skilled.

Yea the more I think about it the more I am willing to say he would punish that little girl. Because that is what she would be in this situation.

Nice try but as JohnJenkins said, Floyd's reflexes are abnormal. So you can't use a James Toney example in this case. But like I said, nice try.

Boxers and strikers specifically have been getting destroyed in these type of fights since the 50s when the Gracie family had the "Gracie challenge" - a no holds barred, no rules challenge to any fighter that wish to face off against Gracie/Brazilian Jiu jitsu. Grappling will always be superior to striking when it's single disciplines matched up against each other

A lot of the fights are on YouTube and are awesome :pimp:

If you're actually paying attention, I'm not disagreeing with you.

But the idea that someone can't be an elite athlete/pugilist because you haven't heard of them is ridiculous.

The reason MMA fighters stay on their feet is because either, A) Fighter A and fighter B are both better on their feet, B) Fighter A is better at standup, wants the fight to remain on their feet, and his takedown defense is better than Fighter B's takedown game.

This would be a case of somebody who is amazing at standup (Flloyd) with absolutely no takedown defense (it's safe to assume), and somebody who's great at getting the fight to the ground and getting submissions.

That mix tells me Rousey will have NO trouble getting the fight to the ground because Flloyd isn't good enough to prevent it from going there, therefore playing to her stengths, and ultimately winning.

not sure...but i would LOVE to go 3 rounds with Miesha Tate. straight to the ground

Having the world fastest hands and absolutely no takedown defense is not going to stop an experience grappler from taking you down at will.

How about just having insane reflexes? How's she going to get him on the ground if she can't get to him?

Again, Floyd is in the top 1%, imo, as far as reflex speed, of ANYONE in pro sports.

The reason MMA fighters stay on their feet is because

They all start on their feet and some never make it past that, regardless of how much better one fighter's wrestling is over another's.

Fights can't be predicted. No one predicted Rumble to beat Phil Davis. Everyone thought the better wrestler would take down the striker and hold him down for the win (though Rumble can definitely wrestle, something everyone lost sight of leading up to the fight because of Davis being more of a highly decorated wrestler) and it didn't happen.

Jon Jones is a strong wrestler, who fought a striker in Gustaffson. And Gustaffson wound up taking him down.

Ridiculous thread is ridiculous. Y'all letting Dana White troll you

I agree tho this thread is stupid. Worthy of closing IMO.

Having "the world fastest hands" (that's a quote no less) means nothing in a fight now

This thread delivered the lulz as expected. Can we go back to the thread where Lebron can beat Floyd in a fistfight too?

A fight isn't necessarily a boxing match. Fights can end up on the ground too, where having fast hands isn't necessarily an advantage. If you can't differentiate the two I don't know what to tell you. Your lack of comprehension brings the lulz.

Yes. You're right. They CAN.

CAN. Not will. But CAN.

But they start upright.

And they aren't fighting in a phonebooth. Floyd can use his feet, use angles, use distance. Something he does better than most people on the planet.

Ronda's striking is still pretty pedestrian.

There's really nothing for you to tell me that I don't already know. You're actually pretty much stating the obvious.

You're saying Floyd has "the worlds fastest hands". You're also saying you "don't care how fast Mayweather is" as if that's not a factor.

Yet through all that, you've somehow determined that the fight is 100% going to the ground. Which is foolish.

It starts on the feet. Where Floyd has a HUGE advantage, as evidenced by Ronda getting touched up in her last fight.

IF it goes to the ground, because it CAN, Ronda has a huge advantage.

Which leaves us back not knowing what the **** would happen, in a fight that will never happen, and you being royally trolled by Dana White.

I came in for the lulz and you delivered though. Repped.

Not a mayweather fan but if he connected on his first shot she is out cold. This is someone mayweather would be able to knockout in the first round.

If he misses and she takes him down then she wins.

rousey would give PBF that work. Yall need to stop putting him on a pedal stool.

His shoulder roll ain't gonna save him from an armbar

He'll punch her 5 times before she even draws a breath. She can't armbar him if she tries to close distance and she eats his fists. Why is Floyd always put up in an imaginary fight against her? It's just a way for people to talk crap about him and try to embarrass him by saying a female fighter would beat him in her sport.

Why don't people ever talk about an imaginary fight between her and Barao? I'd like to see her get put to sleep by a female or male.
