Any of you ever suffer a Knee Injury??

As the thread goes, have any of you ever suffered a knee injury? I was playing ball last night and came down wrong on someone's foot after grabbing a rebound. Knee buckled inward, felt the ligament(s) move inward and go back into place. I didn't hear a pop or anything, but I definitely felt it move. I dropped to the ground clutching my knee, it didn't really hurt but it was just an uncomfortable feeling.

Spent a large part of the night at the hospital just to get some x-rays which did not reveal a break or damage to a bone. I am supposed to consult a orthopedic on Monday to discuss the injury at hand. To make matters worse, I'm supposed to start at a new job this upcoming Monday, my offer status depends on this knee. I'm just hoping it wasn't too bad and that it won't require surgery.

Do any of you care to share your stories? Any injury, not necessarily a knee. What was the experience like, how long were you out for, what did you do with your time?

Torn patella tendon. Almost a year and a half ago. Went for a dunk, decided on a lay up, came down and my kneecap shot into my thigh. Didn't notice at first, tried to take a limp walk, fell down on the ground. Never cried. Once they gave me the drugs I started hitting on every female nurse in sight. If I find the pics ill post them. Terrible experience. Surgery was the worst.

I could imagine bro. How long was the recovery period am1?

I'm a casual ball player, second time using these on the court. I will be getting an MRI on Monday.

Tore my meniscus. Freshman football, was covering a kick and got leg whipped. Limped to the sideline and was out for a week, didn't go to a doctor, or anything like that. It still pops when I bend my knee.

Broke both of my big toes playing rugby. Had my foot planed and got tackled. Broke the other one trying not to put too much pressure on the broken one lol. Went to the doctor, it was pointless, all they gave me was medical tape and cotton balls and told me to wrap my foot.

Had to get arthroscopic surgery back on April 24th. Still in the recovery process and started my PT. It's feeling better now and I should be back to work at the end of June. No meniscus tear (thank god) or the recovery process would of been much longer. The first couple of weeks was a bit rough and I definitely needed my crutches during that time frame. After that, by the third week, I was back driving again. You just have to take it day by day and not put too much of stress on the knee. Get as much rest as you can.

Damn bro you sucked that one up, that's the football player in you. [emoji]128514[/emoji] How do you know you tore your meniscus if you didn't go to the doctor?

I've also fractured my wrist and elbow playing ball on separate occasions. This is getting out of hand already. [emoji]128514[/emoji][emoji]128528[/emoji]

Damn bruh, good to hear you're recovering well and have gained mobility and are back on your feet. I hope I have just as much luck as you. I'm definitely getting my rest. Nothing but TV and reading till further notice.

Crutches for two weeks (supposed to be three but I was tired of them) brace for three weeks. 8 weeks of therapy. I also rode my bike for atleast two miles a day, five days a week until like a month ago. Now I'm all better, but mentally I'm terrified. I stay away from gyms, I want to play but need a brace, for both knees. I always tell myself I don't have the money, but honestly it's just am excuse. I'm terrified of the court, one day ill man up, I loved hooping, not seriously but for fun there isn't much better.

Hope you recover soon man. Doesn't sound like you tore anything though. Theres a chance you damaged your meniscus, or partially tore ligaments. Both could require minor ortho surgery. Surgery wouldnt take place until about 3 months after the injury. Surgeons like full mobility and minimal swelling before doing surgery since range of motion and reduced swelling are 2 of the hardest things to accomplish post surgery.

I tore my ACL, meniscus, and partially tore my MCL in April 2013 playing football. I planted on my left leg and went to change directions and heard a pop and immediately fell. I knew something was wrong, but I was hoping it wasnt too bad. I iced it for about 2-3 days before going to see a doctor who took x ryays. MY physician recommended I go see a physical therapist for a month then look in to getting an MRI if i wasnt seeing progress. I requested a sooner MRI because I felt like it was bad, but the insurance companies usually wont go that route. So for the next month I iced all the time and slowly increased my range of motion with therapy. They were speculating that I had some meniscus damage that probably wouldnt require surgery. After 1 month I got an MRI from a new doctor who was dissatisfied with how my therapist had handled the process thus far. The place where I got the MRI is also where the surgeons see their patients, and they have a space for physical therapy. Once I got the MRI they told me I tore my ACL, Meniscus etc., I had my surgery scheduled for July within 1 week. Things moved very fast at this all in one type of facility - I would highly recommend looking into a place like this. My doctor told me that I had been using the crutches and brace for too long and that at this point, strength and mobility were the most important thing before surgery .

I remember initially always wanting to wear the brace and keep a pillow under my knee to keep it slightly bent. Try to consistently work on straightening out your leg while icing it - dont keep a pillow under it all the time. And after about 2-3 weeks try to drop the brace and crutches. I was always concerned about making the injury worse, but apparently according to the doctors there is a not a good chance of that happening.

I did a lot of resume tweaking and job searching during this process. Also caught up on a lot of netflix. But I would always push myself to be more mobile. I hate the feeling of being couped up. I'll post about the process leading up to the surgery another day. Let me know if you have any questions

Suffered the same type injury playing ball planted my foot and my weight just shifted my knee one way and I went another. Felt the same pain/discomfort. But I had swelling in my knee for 2 weeks could barelly run or walk and after I healed it was more mental scared to jump and go all out.

Same thing happened to my friend. He had to wear the same thing you have til he got his MRI.

He never got it. He would take off that boot thing for work and school and use it just when he had to get on the train and the like. Fast forward 2 and a half months and hes deadlifting 200+ lbs, no squatting though.

You'll be good OP, dont think the worst yet.

I just had ACL/ meniscus surgery last Wednesday. A very similar thing happened to me, playing ball and landed awkward, which buckled my knee. Although, I heard pops, like someone cracked their knuckles. Surgery sucks and I can't walk or move my leg well, but it gets bearable with time. Keep your head up and hopefully it isn't anything to serious, your in my prayers homie.

I had total left knee reconstruction. Initially must have slightly torn my ACL. Should have taken at least a month off. Our team doctor figured it was just a strain and said to just take a week off. Went back and tore my ACL completely, along with my MCL, PCL, and meniscus. Had surgery. Rehabbed like CRAZY and was back to full speed in 10 or so months.

14 years later, my knee structurally is strong and fine. It'll get a little sore after a serious day of snowboarding or after playing a lot of hockey...but pretty minor. I just wear one of those moderate support wraps/sleeves on my knee whenever I do any activities like that.

My advice to anyone who gets a joint injury...take it slow and make sure you rehab. And rehab correctly. Good luck, OP

I hear ya. I love basketball, can't imagine giving it up. However, I realize that anything can happen at any given time. I'm gonna be real hesitant to hit the courts again.

Thanks for sharing your story. It's only been a day, still have the brace on and have been icing it. I'm scared to put any weight on it, but occasionally I do have a misstep with the crutches every now and then. Should I have any questions, I'll def PM you.

This sounds hopeful, but one never knows.

Had a really bad sprain. Playing basketball in gym class back in HS I had dove for a loose ball and my knee smacked right into the hardwood as I landed. Hurt like hell. :smh: Couldn't bend my leg for like a week.

Damn bruh, that's what's so scary about this thing. It's so common, and can happen at any given time. Feel free to update your status on this thread for motivation and support. I am hoping so myself. I wish you a speedy recovery as well. [emoji]128591[/emoji]

I envy all the guys that walk off these injuries. I may be stressing it more than it really is, but I just don't know. I am looking forward to rehabbing this properly before I begin any physical activity, which is mainly lifting. I hope to be as strong as you during all this.

When I was like 10 me and my friends use to have scraps and play fights. "Friendly Fades" is what the kids call them these days.

One time, one of the fights got a little heavy and I DDTed a kid (my best friend now) onto the floor of our project hallway and spat on him. He roared and charged me, PICKED ME UP OFF OF THE FLOOR ( I was a tall kid) and slammed me right on my knee. This floor was not soft, as anyone who has lived in the PJs can testify.

Occasionally still get an ache or two to this day
