OFFICIAL 2014 FANTASY FOOTBALL THREAD

well do you know what RBs are being kept by other owners?

This is probably what I'd go by. If you keep Alshon you should still probably be able to draft Gore if you really want him in your first round of your keeper league.

Just did a quick mock draft on fantasy football calculator. How do you guys think I did? I had the 9th pick.

My WR's are a little sketch but Larry in the 4th, I couldn't pass that up. I added depth with Bowe and Woods as well. I like my RB's though.

Here's my top 5 QB's:

QB:

1. Andrew Luck: (Despite being 2nd to only Eli Manning as the biggest dork in the league, this guy clearly has a bright future ahead of him and is only going to adjust and get better through the next couple of years. He's a natural competitor and just knows how to win games.)

2. Peyton Manning: (It's ironic that the only guy I have ranked ahead of him was his replacement in Indy, but Peyton is still without a doubt one of the best QB's ever to play the game (note that he still threw for well over 400 yards against the Seahawks D in that blow out of a Super Bowl) and with the separation speed of Emmanuel Sanders (something that Decker lacked), Manning could prove to be one of the most valuable assets of anyone's fantasy line up in just his second tenure with Denver.)

3. Cam Newton: (I'm kinda fighting myself on this since I've really never liked the guy as a QB/team leader, but no one can deny his God-given talent and his ability to take over a game. He may have lost a great reciever in Steve Smith, but he also gained a deep threat reciever in Kelvin Benjamin. Let's be honest, Smith is past his prime and never quite connected well with Newton anyways, and even though Benjamin is totally raw and unprooven, I am curious to see what kind of plays those 6'6 behemoths can put together.)

4. Russell Wilson: (Still the most underrated QB in the league period! But the reason why I have him at 4 is because his team doesn't rely on him to put up big numbers. Trust me, I had him last year and he wasn't exactly a game changer when it came to points. I'll stick with him though cause he's consistent, smart with the ball, and limits his turnovers and thats a big reason why the Seahawks are league champs.)

5. Phillip Rivers: (Rivers is due for a big year, and with the recent additions in San Diego, he now may just have the weapons to make that happen. That bum of a RB Ryan Matthews now has some decent competition in Donald Brown, and the guy has the speed and hands to make him a versatile option for Rivers. Danny Woodhead is returning for his 2nd season with the Chargers, and for those of you plagued by the injury bug in the WR category last season, you may just know a little reciever by the name of Keenan Allen...? He looks to return for his sophmore year.)

other positions to come.

Anyone have any fun ways they choose their draft order every year?

Last year my 10 team league all got assigned #'s to Horses at a local racetrack. We went to the race and recorded it. If you got Horse #3 and he won you got pick 1, horse 9 was 2nd you get 2nd pick in the draft etc etc

This is pretty cool lol

I just put the names in a hat and let a third party pick the names

These are your top 5 QB's in Fantasy Football? Or the Top 5 YOU are targeting?

Much as I like Cam from a real-life perspective, he's been disappointing in fantasy compared to expectations and I don't expect this year to be any better considering his surrounding talent. He'll probably go higher than he should in my league.

Matt Ryan is definitely that dependable dude, which is the best kind in FF.

Only way Luck is close to #1 in fantasy is if your league is crazy weighted towards yards thrown . Shows how disconnected people are from reality when it comes to this guy's actual performance.

Two of the most interesting names from a draft perspective are Harvin and Gronkowski.

Expect Harvin to slip a fair bit, but can anyone resist Gronk in the 2nd/early 3rd?

I can. Not drafting either one of these training room warriors. Itlll hurt watching the one or two explosion games but ill get over it watchin em hit the pup.

I'm not touching either of those dudes that early.

Even if you get crazy pts for Yds thrown....Rodgers, Brees, Stafford, Rivers should all throw for significantly more yds than Luck. So how would he be #1?

I love Luck, He's a guy I'd love on my team....but to think he's going to be or is the #1 QB in any league, in any format is wildly incomprehensible. If Peyton retires and Rodgers and Brees are literally on their last legs than yes he can be. Will he be the best QB in the game in the near future, I can strongly make that argument. But right now, he is not, and he certainly will not be the top QB in fantasy

Interesting?

What's interesting about them?

Harvin has proven he can't stay on the field, why would you risk drafting someone like that.

Gronk has been hurt for two years straight, and is playing in a depleted offense. You're willing to pay a 4th rd price for a major liability? I'm not

You know what's funny, every year "experts" tab a few guys as sleepers and value picks. But it's always the same guys across every platform. This year it's Andre Ellington, Pierre Garcon, etc etc. And everyone is going to tout them. And in turn they lose their value, lose their "sleeper" status and it all become level.

On one hand you can't blame them for championing one player. But on the other, it seems like when everyone picks the same player it loses all sense of analysis and insight.

Ellington is gonna go waaay too high. I watched a good amount of him last year cause he was on my fantasy team. Was he a thousand times better than Mendenhall? Yes...but Mendenhall also just retired at like 26 years old cause he's so bad at this point. I don't think Ellington can't handle being the 20+ carry a game guy every week, his body can't handle it. Don't put yourself in a David Wilson situation again.

If it's not AP or McCoy for me in the first round then I'm thinking of waiting a good while until I draft a RB.

It never fails, year after year, there's mulitple backs that rise up the depth chart and have good to great stretches. It's just hard when you're actually drafting to take that into consideration because you're trying to build the best team possible from day 1. However, in most of my successful years, it was because of FA pickups, most specifically at the RB position that kept me ahead of the curve and winning.

Yeah, if I end up outside the top 3, I may wait for rounds 3/4/5 and try to get some combination of Bernard, Vereen and Reggie in my PPR league...

No way in hell you wait til the third round and are able to come away with Gio, Reggie and Vereen.

I could even see waiting on Pierre Thomas and starting him in a PPR... The options thin out quick after the top 3.

Top 5 that I'M targeting. Brees, Ryan and Stafford are all on my bubble. As much as I love Brees, I got a feeling he's approaching the down slope of his career. The ONLY reason Matt Ryan is as solid as he has been is because of the weapons he's been given around him. I'm otherwise just simply unimpressed by the guy really. Keep in mind, the Lions now have a new coach and new receiver which means completely different playbook! I think a lot of people have forgotten that. I'm not implying that Megatron still won't be the man out there, but let's just say I'm a little skeptical as to how much they're actually going to be throwing the ball now.

thoughts on doug martin

ran a mock n got him n reggie bush in the 3 and 4th rounds (9th pick out of 10) with Dez and AJ Green as my first 2 picks. Would be a PPR league.

took Luck at QB, TY in the flex and Jordan Reed at TE.

Doug Martin presents solid value. He's someone to monitor during training camp and preseason to see how he handles the work load. But according to reports he's fine. And if he really is fine, in that offense, getting him in the 3rd-4th rd is a serious value
