OFFICIAL 2014 FANTASY FOOTBALL THREAD

we're gonna go to the track and pick a race with 12 horses in it to determine our draft order. Each person gets a horse and the place it finishes is where we draft. Hope the idea doesn't fall through, much more fun than picking out of a hat

where i play in the NFFC  they do what is called KDS ( kentucky derby style ) which i looove. a week b4 the draft you set your preference from 1-12 or 1-14 then they pick teams and you get your draft spot of your liking. usually you get your top 5 of your choice since people have different likings.

I'm starting to have an eerie feeling about Ellington. He's the highly touted, most talked about guy preseason, there is one every year. And people buy into they hype and then he gets hurt and burns everyone / doesn't put up the numbers we expect.

I'm getting the feeling that he will go down the same path....

read a article that says hes basically this years version of the madden cover curve, fantasy football style.

Steve Slaton in 08. Felix Jones in 09. Ryan Mathews in 2012.

all 3 those were hyped like Ellington..

heres how im going to draft..if i get a top 4 pick, I'm going RB first pick. anything after that i'm going WR with my first 2 picks and risking riding on rbs like ellington, gerhart, tate, ball..

I usually go two RBs then a WR, but I'm gonna switch it up this year. Last year I got destroyed cause my first two picks were busts

I think last year was an anomaly with the amount of 1st round RB busts. I still think it's smart to go RB-RB in the first 2 rounds. But I'll agree, going WR-WR isn't a bad strategy if you can manage to grab a few of the mid round RBs like Spiller, Ellington, Tate, Gerhart, Richardson, etc and have them turn out to be viable starters.

I just did a 12 team mock draft going Megatron-Dez in the first 2 rounds and this is how my team ended up.

If 2 of any of those RBs put up consistent top 15-20 numbers that team would do very well.

Garcon took himself out of practice yesterday because of a hamstring :smh:

Something to keep an eye out for

This strategy makes perfect since but I swear every time I've tried to execute it my RBs never panned out.  That isn't to say it isn't bad strategy.  If you can draft a deep RB corps with potential, where a few of them pan out, it can pay off big-time for you.

I want to say in the past this strategy failed mostly because it took so long to determine which of the 2nd/3rd tier running backs deserved a starting spot.  By nature of the fact that none of them were tier 1 guys, I had to plug & play each week and when you have a bunch of 2nd and 3rd-tier guys that's like a crapshoot.

I've reverted back to the RB/RB or RB/WR strategy as of late.  The only exception is if Megatron is available late in round 1, in which case I'd go WR/RB.

In all of my leagues last year I took graham and Gronk back to back in round 3/4. When Gronk was healthy, I put him in my flex spot and dominated each week.

One of my leagues I started 0-4, saw josh Gordon on the waiver, picked him up, and never looked back. Ended up winning that league with Charles, Gordon, graham, and a rotation at QB of dalton, cutler, and romo if I recall correctly.

Can't wait for the season to start, I loved the thrill! If I have the 6-10 pick, I'm going WR-WR-RB-TE-QB depending on if anyone falls

In 3 money leagues... 1. 12 man PPR (champion), 2. 20 man IDP, 3. 12 man IDP.

First time doing IDP's... should be interesting.

Down to do an All NT league if any one wants to.

I find it very hard to lock myself in for 6 rounds of the draft. You gotta go with the flow out of the draft

The only times I've made the playoffs or won a championship was a year that I didn't take a RB in the first round.

All my leagues are PPR, 6 per TD though, big play bonues.

I hate drafing RBs

I think it all largely boils-down to a crapshoot, with a bit of expertise sprinkled-in.  In the same vein, the years when I think my team looks great they take, but if I enter a deep depression after the draft because I blew it, my team ends up being pretty good.

That's why they play the game!

Texans WR Andre Johnson left today's practice with a strained hamstring...what sometimes happens with players who hold out.

never been a a fan of drafting him. give me hopkins mid rounds all day long. would love him at wr3

It's hard to predict fantasy.  I drafted at the 4 last year and was able to took J Charles.  Coming back I took Peyton Manning. at the 3 and 4 I was able to get Jordy Nelson and Wes Welker.  5 took Reggie Bush

Manning single handedly help me win my league.  My TE was **** as I was picking from the wire every week.  And it was also helpful that I was able to get Alshon Jeffrey off the wires.  There's always a guy on the waivers that'll surprise.  You just gotta be the lucky guy to pick em up on waivers.

I wouldn't hesitate though to pick up Charles again.

Thinking going the 2 TE route this year. If i can grab Jimmy G along with Thomas/Gronk..def doing that

btw what are yall thoughts on Mccown? Im guessing the bears system made his career turn around but he has weapons in TB..

I'm not a huge fan of drafting TEs namely b/c if one of them go down you're majorly screwed.  However, I'm going to do my best to ensure at least one of them ends up on my fantasy team this year.  Everyone will be clamoring for Graham but I'd happily take Gronk a round later.

McCown was surprisingly efficient last year, finishing 14th among quarterbacks in fantasy points per game.  His ADP is currently 23.9 which makes him an awesome value pick.  I wouldn't hesitate to grab him in the later rounds as as solid backup.

I know almost everyone has Jamaal Charles pegged as the #1 guy off the board this season, but something keeps telling me that AP should go #1 instead. That's just me though.

Told myself I was going with a WR in the first two rds. After watching some film of Gio Bernanard I would like to get him on my squad. Thing is he's going somewhere in the 2nd which is a bit too high for somebody that will most likely share the workloadwith J.Hill, who would be stealing all of the goal line work. Kind of torn right now lol
