The smash bros slander is insane in here. Ssb is a really tongue in cheek fighting (yes fighting) game. On the surface it looks like Mario party but the amount of skill it takes to be good at the game is up there.

And we can't be in a mortal kombat thread and really talk in depth fighters. Though mortal kombat is put on a pedestal in fighting game communities it's never been in depth as Street Fighter or KoF...

That's cuz it fell off. The better MKs in the franchise have the same notoriety as SF and you dont have to buy an "updated" game every 8 months for 2 new characters.

At the end of the day Smash is a fighter, regardless if you like the game or not. Just because it's not your traditional combo, 1v1 fighting game doesn't take away from what it is. You Fight , Throw kicks, punches and whatever else for the goal to defeat your opponent. = fighting game. I guess Mario kart isn't a racing game either ? (Not a Nintendo stan either just stating the obvious)

thats my point. smash hasn't made some extreme leap within the last 15 years for its fans to be talking down on other franchises calling them identical. that **** is the same game as the one on n64

SSB is no where near MKs level. MK isn't identical to the other fighting games. ..... Hell MK is the only fighter that makes changes to each game. You can always tell it apart. Unlike VF, DOA, SC, Tekken, SF (which I love by the way)......

Stop. The best mortal kombat game (either 2 or 3 depending on who you talk to, I personally say 3) can't hold a flame to SF 3 let alone the end all be all of all fighting games, SF 2

A street fighter game wouldnt make it in my top 5. Maybe Alpha 3. Cant remember if that is the slightly tweaked version of the game that I like or not. There are just so many.

Blotters is my dude but if you play fighting games then you know street fighter created the 6 button layout. Directional inputs, street fighter. Charge moves. Street fighter. Things that mortal kombat as well as other fighters have built fighting engines around. To omit a Street Fighter game, essentially Street Fighter 2 or any street fighter there after out of a fighting game top 5 is like leaving Magic Johnson or even Michael Jordan out of a top 5 NBA player list. It's all subjective at the end of the day but you have to respect history at the same time...

 I respect SF II for laying the groundwork down for fighters but at the end of the day I don't HAVE TO like it at all. SF II is not even the best SF game made IMO. Your Magic Johnson and Michael Jordan analogy doesn't fit either. You never hear people call George Mikan or Bob Cousy the greatest ever even though they were some of the most decorated players in professional basketball during its infancy. My favorite fighters are Third Strike , MK9 , and UMK3 I could give two ***** about SF II DEAL WITH IT.

You know I wasn't coming at you like that blotters. I may be a SF Stan because of the arcade scene I grew up in (which was in the early to mid 90's. Mortal Kombat and SF were EVERYTHING) and the SF tourneys I've played but it's like I can't believe people can overlook SF and talk fighting games. Evo was built off of SF. The competitive fighting scene period was built off of SF

As we await Mortal Kombat X perhaps the most sought-after characters are either "new" characters or returning characters that we haven't seen in years... specifically from Mortal Kombat 4. Mortal Kombat 4 introduced multiple characters to the franchise that many players fell in love with including Fujin, Reiko, Jerek, Tanya, Shinnok and more.

Well, to hopefully put a smile on your face, Shaun Himmerick did reply to a question asking if we could expect "more than 2 characters from MK4"... (hopefully not including Quan Chi!)
