Oh yea and SRA pissed so many people off that out of the 78 on that contract, they only kept about 18 of us I believe.

One of my friends just left my team that was there and he was the last one left. Our team was about 14 deep on the contract and he said since last August that every position had someone either quit or be fired from our team except for him and he was leaving now as well. I still talk to a few people over there that either went to another company on the same contract, or that they were able to flip to GS before the contract ended. All of them they say that it isn't the same and are looking to leave or transfer elsewhere. Sounds like even if I had stayed, that it wouldn't be worth it to be there anyways from talking to them.

That's the crazy thing. I know people that work for them or used to and they all had good things to say about them. I figured the would play hardball but they flat out came in disrespecting people with their offers and the way they were doing business.

You get a pass from me since you a Destiny brethren and keep in entertaining in that thread  :smokin

What do you guys say about roles you have on your resume less than 6 months? I pretty much stay honest without bashing the company but I had one dude low key try to come at me about it.

Y'all Keep me in your thoughts again, got a big interview next week. Had two today, one went well but I checked back with recruiter and she said they dont pay for your relocation during the yr long training, so I told her withdraw me from consideration for that one, 2nd one I didnt like the vibe of the interview at all and could just tell I`m not getting it, but gig is super far out and I only went in just because they reached out to me.
Any plugs on certifications? Want to grab a few that I know I can pass off the top of my head like A+ and Network+.

Unless you're new to IT these won't help you much. Cisco seems to be the path of most these days.

What do you suggest boss? I'm started my PMP process but got side tracked doing other things. I really just need to take the exam but it's been two years since I finished the coursework.

I like being hands on with hardware but my expierence and education says I should be doing more.

Open to all suggestions and ideas professionally. I just need to grow.

I have my BBA in MIS 7 years of expierence stemming from streaming media. That allowed me to learn and do a lot.

The real question is what path would you like to take. Networking, System Admin, etc. Once you determine that then it's easier to determine what exam path that you should take. Very informative forums http://www.techexams.net/forums/

For the technical, mcsa and ccna are a safe bet, but if you have the qualifications to sit for a PMP and a general understanding of technology, not sure why you would focus on anything else but that right now.

wrightone86 wrightone86 We were the same. The whole takeover was contentious obviously because of the paycut, so a Coworker and I called HR and started asking them questions, what is our contract #, can we see the contract (they have to provide you both pieces of info if requested), well what is our labor category because if you go to the dol site it shows right here the standard rate should this much, she had the nerve to catch an attitude.

And now when I go over there, the 2 that are left from my office and one former coworker's wife, they are SUPER unmotivated. It's hilarious. I go everyday because they always have something for me to do plus there's a store in that building, but I'll be like hey what was that computer name again and they're like #yeshrug; just spend most of the day on Monster and studying for CCNA and the like.

datznasty datznasty crazy how that happens man. I just had lunch yesterday with a couple from there and they hate it there. I was sort of mad when I initially left because I really liked working there but we had a new GS15 come in a month before I left and it sounds like he is nothing but horrible to them. I knew that was coming though because he was our Deputy PM before he flipped and nobody liked him then  The CIO liked him and knew he would be a "yes man" for him to do what he wanted and be an extra vote in his pocket so he gave him that job. Pissed off a bunch of people because no contractor, with no prior govt experience, just walks in and get a GS15 Division Chief job over a program in the building I was in.

Lmaoooo @WrightOne86 you had the HR person sounding stupid.

If you have a clearance and experience there are ALWAYS jobs to be had in the DMV area lol.

They are finessing like that down at Quantico? Son went straight to a 15

Thank man I try to hold it down in the credit thread at the end of the day credit is just a game.

You don't have to be #1 you just always want to be on the winning side.

@BeezyGotSole  when she came out her mouth with the "Per our research, this is a fair and standard offer for this area." She had me looking like:

anigif_enhanced-buzz-22065-1391311179-4.gif

I said I guess these 7 years I have been here, all this time, everyone overpaid severely for me. Then told her college grads with no clearance or certs, get offered 65k, so what makes them think that they can offer experienced, certified and cleared people less than that?

That's when she hit me with the "I will get back to you to see if we can get approval to raise the salary req." Told her if that is what she wants to do then sure

Checked my FICO the other week and it beat my previous high.
It was 803 and this last time it said 811

Man if I could step right into a 15, I would with no dambs given and let everyone beneath me hate. Although, I feel like I'm qualified so it's difference. Our chief of g6 (which is basically the IT), one was like in band in the Army and the deputy was something equally not computers. The C.O.R (contracting officer, basically the GS Civilian who is the liason to the CTRs) is SUPER cool but I was kind of salty the 3 of them even let us get done like that after all the great work we've done for them. They should have seen from the bid that something didn't add up, but they're like 13's and 2 15-2210s so it doesn't mess up their money.

So I need to come to the DMV huh? I am just not a fan of traffic. I live 13 miles from work and get mad when it takes me 20 minutes. I heard yall be taking 3 hours

I

Depends where you live and where you work. I live on the DC line and my commute is away from DC going up to Ft Meade so it takes me 25-30 minutes to get to work. When you come up this way you really have to be mindful of your commute when choosing jobs.

@Dathbgboy Once you know your worth there is no going back man. Can't let companies get over on you out here.

My man said he has 7 years of experience , clearance, and certs for our area that demands a certain salary.

Average starting salary for software engineers is 65K in the DMV area with 0 experience I think IT starting is around 55-60K ,

offering someone less than starting salary with a senior level resume is just disrespectful.

Oh yea, no doubt. I've worked local government most of the time so I aint got that wiggle room, I'm low key jelly

But these companies know what they're doing, they kicked it up a notch in '08, best quality for the less money, almost like we're produce or something.

You can expect to earn about 20% less in the public sector compared to private. To compensate, you get great benefits.

Yup. Take it from someone who didn't have any experience after graduating and took the first job offer, companies WILL try to take advantage of you, so get as much as you can during negotiations.

Offering 65k to a Sr engineer in the DMV area is insulting, he should turn his nose. Good to all the IT folks that know their worth and negotiating power, sick of seeing naive "technical" dudes being took.

Man, that's a gift and a curse, it's great because the benefits are great so it's not a hit on u financially. However, the downside is no room for growth as everybody that works for local government tend to be underachievers and complacent. Only way to move up is to leave and then come back, but once you do, you take a huge pay cut. I'd rather pay more for benefits for a great salary than a sorry salary w/ great benefits though.

And w/ the cost of living in DC and them trying to offer dude that much, they some suckas forreal. What the hell is experience even worth if they gon try and lowball you any way.

Agreed, there is a guy who tweeted his salary journey over the years in IT. He said he kind of felt bad that he was getting paid much more than his coworkers, but he was just good a negotiating his salary. I'll see if I can find it.
