Information Technology (IT)

Currently working on my A+ cert through NPower. I’m looking for job in nyc that has help desk so i can get the experience any connects in nyc?

I`d look at Geek Squad too, unless Pay is a big concern.
That will be great route for someone on entry level, however I don’t want to be in retail setting anymore I’ve worked for best buy and tried geek squad, that chapter in my life is done. Looking for a corporate setting, just need be in that environment to get hand on learning and network. Thank for the Suggestion.

Interview at a local data center next week..

Any tips for a Data Center Admin role? Any questions you'd think they expect me to know the answer to?

It's only an internship (full time offer is after internship), and ill be taking a data center management class in March, but the guys at the company contacted me a lot earlier then I was expecting.

Incredibly hype.

finally got my foot in the door for an IT gig here in the DC area. It's a very small company that does Apple support for various local companies. They want me to get the ACMT certification, very soon.

Has anyone on here ever taken that and have any tips? It doesn't seem too difficult.

I work at a data center, and the only thing I really didn't know coming in was working with fiber. I would maybe spend 30min or so getting an overview to cover things like bend radius, single-mode/multi-mode, types of connectors, etc...

Having a basic understanding of how data center cooling (in a raised floor environment) works, as well as how power flows is really pivotal.

Your probable daily tasks should be pretty simple. In terms of servers, replacing memory, HDD's, etc.. is easy. Working with collection and cluster routers you'd just have to swap out cards and optics. I guess that would be good to know as well, the different types of optics for fibers (LR, ER, ZR).

All I can think of right now, good luck.

Anyone know best option for getting Windows 7 Iso's? I`m trying to do a Java tutorial but I have a mac and its gear to windows users.

nah I`m trying to brush up on my programming skills. Back when I was in school I would get OSs free, but that was years ago.

Read. Between. The. Lines.

If you still dont get it just pm me lol..

My tutorials were done on Windows, while Eclipse and all that stuff is available for Mac, I rather use Windows to follow along.

Have you tried Dreamspark? Not sure what credentials you need. If it's just an .edu we get to keep ours for life, maybe your institution is the same?
All else fails hit up some chick or someone who's still enrolled if you aren't that far removed. Good luck.

PS: I can still sign into my account from undergrad (2014) & it let me purchase some bs MapPoint s/w.

Oh okay, I just wouldn't waste money on Windows just to follow along. Its the same on both platforms. I'm sure somebody can send you an iso though or point you in the right direction.

my company recommends CrashPlan. It backs up to the cloud which is convenient.

Probably should've included this in the no list as well. Currently testing it

We dont have any desire to abandon our cloud backup, just looking for a local alternative onsite for redundancy (weird i know).

Interview tomorrow, couldn't be any more hype..

Try Retrospect.... Cheap and has a funky GUI, but works great for on site backups to tape drives and external disks.

I think I took the Net+ in Novmber. What's your question?

I'll never take the CRISC (just not in my career path).
