The non stop ********** ads

Its the ads using javscript to redirect you to an app store app.

On a pc you're cool, but theres no ad blocker for mobile devices.
 
Happens to me all the time.

Mostly redirects me to the App Store to download some farming game.

Had one the other day from yahoo saying I won $500 and a couple months ago I had one that made me laugh. It redirected me to a fake government/FBI page with a countdown clock. It said that my PC was detected to have viewed child porn and that I had 24 hours to get a green dot money card for $250 in order to stop the charges from being filed lol.

I can't believe people fall for this ****..

(All the ads happen on my ipad)

Yesterday, I was redirected to the App Store 6 times in like 20 minutes. It hasn't happened today..

Huddler checked into this for us and the decision was made to block ALL itunes related ads from the site.  This is, obviously, a very costly proposition as it essentially throws the baby out with the bathwater.  However, it should have the effect of blocking any ad that would redirect users to the app store.  

Preserving the integrity of the site and the user experience is our top priority.  There will also be some changes made to the site's ad networks in the coming weeks.  We're hoping for higher quality ads and better performance.  

In the meantime, I appreciate everyone's patience and your help in identifying problem ads for removal.  We're doing the very best we can, and we'll continue to get better.

 I use adblock on NT though. The ads here are extra intrusive

Using adblock on NT is like pirating music, movies, or games.  Advertising is the price you pay to use the site.  It's how we pay to stay online.  It's how we finance our donations.  If you block the ads, you're consuming our bandwidth while cutting off our primary means of paying for it.  
 
Don't mind the ads, just hate the ones with audio, :smh:

I usually have NT as one of my tabs at work and when audio starts playing, just no bueno.

We're not okay with auto-playing audio in ads, either.  If you come across one, take a screen shot and let us know about it so we can report it to Huddler for investigation and removal. 
 
Thought I was the only one. That app store redirect is ridiculous. Hopefully it gets resolved soon.
 
I'd been told that all itunes.apple.com ads would be blocked moving forward - which is a very costly proposition given the already low rate of return on mobile advertising, but it was a sacrifice we were willing to make to stop this problem and eliminate future app store redirects. 

I've informed Huddler that users are still encountering this and expect them to investigate immediately. 
 
The App Store redirects are out of control..

Earlier today, I went through opening threads I wanted to read. (Open link on new page) Every time a thread opened, it took me right to the App Store. Once the App Store opens, it stalls for 6-7 seconds before you can even exit and open Safari back up. Then I'd get back here, open another thread and right back to the App Store. Start reading a thread, get 2 sentences in and boom - App Store.

Every once in a while it will pop up and ask if you want to open the App Store and you can select no.

I eventually gave up. It happened 8-10 times in a row.
 
What threads were you trying to access when this happened?  The more information on this we have, the better.  I just got off the phone with Huddler a minute ago and this is something they're actively working on.  We already took the rather extreme step of blocking all ads to itunes.apple.com.  In so doing, we're narrowing down the possible points of entry for ads of this sort. 

We will get to the bottom of it, but it's not as easy to reproduce as one might think.  

The specific ads served by certain networks are dependent upon a user's browsing history.  When I browse NikeTalk on an iPad, I'm not seeing these redirects.  I could spend hours trying, but if I don't have the same history you do it's possible that I'm not going to be served that same ad.  

I'm confident that Huddler will identify the culprit(s) soon - especially if those affected can help us track it down.  If it continues to be a problem moving forward, we'll look at offering an ad free subscription service so that you guys can "opt out" of advertising without cutting off our means of keeping the site online.  
 
Yeah. I hit up method man about this but he just said he couldn't replicate it. Its gotten really bad lately. I usually get sent to the sims free play in app store. Only happens on my iPad.

Last place I got this was the white Hennessey thread.

The soccer game ad is annoying... Not sure if anyone experienced it but it makes the mouse cursor have a seizure :lol:

When it happened to me a bunch of times yesterday I was on my phone. Desktop version. Once I tried on my ipad, it didn't happen once.

Some of the threads that sent me to the App Store were:

The 4 year old foils home invasion
The guy got fired for a dumb reason
Fontaines thread about a girl calling him and saying she has herpes
The game of thrones thread (movie, not the book thread)

There was a few other, but I'm not sure which ones.

The game of thrones thread send me off about 80% of the time.

glad it ain't just me, don't recall it happening on my iPhone too often, but it has happened before. On the iPad it's a few times per hour no doubt.. mad annoying
 
the sound ones are the most annoying/frustrating be listening to music while browsing and then music stops and im listening to an add and then have to go back out just to start music again makes me furious
 
damn, glad its not just me... on my ipad I was redirected to the app store every 30 seconds. Finally just said forget it.
