I guess I'm alone, but it's just hard for me to believe a guy who made the only made the All-Star game, which was held in is team's city, on an injury exception, catapult and become the 3rd best player in the NBA the following season, behind LeBron and KD.
 
I really really REALLY wish I was on here during the T-Mac vs. Kobe days.

Mostly to confirm my theory that a high percentage of LBJ's bandwagon is made up of former hardcore T-Mac fans.

People talking about team records are silly. That hasn't changed. I'm just genuinely interested in y'all crowning him #3 this early either way. Hyped to see him in FIBA play.

15 & 15 has been done 4 times since 1980. Just because he's close doesn't guarantee he will do it, and if he doesn't get 15&15 it's not an indictment on him.

He's still not going to be better than AD putting up 25/12/3

You know you don't fit in with those ones, as for me personally placing him there, he defends better than Love, produces offensively as well as Dwight and Dwight and CP3 both sort of slip a bit lately with advancing age (NBA wise at least) and have slowed more in health terms. Harden doesn't defend even close to as good as Davis is offensively, I can hear an argument for Russ, but there are some efficiency issues in that argument that Russ backers could not deny, Blake flops and falls all over the court and he doesn't defend like AD either, and if the Clippers called the Pelicans right this minute, the Pels would hang up laughing hysterically.

AD impacts both sides of the court, efficiently, without any other player around him that helps take pressure off of him, in a loaded conference, at the age of 20-21, and in terms of the "team" success people want, I saw him do it in college enough to believe he'll get there at some point.


We saw Kobe's growth jump.
We saw KG's growth jump.
T-Mac
LeBron
Dwight
Durant.

AD is heading that same way, and none of these guys put up a PER over 26 in their second full seasons AND still impacted the game on defense. (Bron came the closest PER wise, but he was not even remotely close as good defensively his 2nd year in the league)

AD is 3, right now, and I don't worry a bit about it.
 
Personally, I don't know how you can completely divorce how good a player is from how good his team is. Generally speaking, if guys really are top 3-5 in the game, they elevate their team to playoff contention. If they don't - then what's the basis for saying that player is that good? Stats? If that's what it is, then Kevin Love should probably ranked in the top 5. But he's not and gets criticized on here a lot because his teams have never won. Now I know Love and Davis aren't exactly comparable because AD plays defense, but still. Seems like there is some double-standards being applied in here. Winning has got to count for something, IMO.
 
Part of the issue here is that you guys are overrating AD's defense currently. He has potential to be elite but he's not there yet. Not even close. His offense is ahead of his D right now. He was a monster at Kentucky but he's still figuring out NBA defense. Next year, he should take another leap though.

And DeMarcus Cousins should be in the Top 5 by that standard. 

He averaged 22.7 ppg, 11.7 rpg, 2.9 apg, 1.5 spg, 1.3 bpg (more than Davis in every stat other than blocks)

He was 5th in PER, only 1 spot behind Davis

He also had worse teams then AD & Kevin Love

I would have Love somewhere in that 5 tho. I don't exactly have a 1-10 list or anything, but overall, I would have Love in that 5-6 range, maybe even 4 if I went back thru it all, tho I know that defensively he is lacking and I would probably have to knock him a bit for that.

Like Osh has said, it's splitting hairs after Bron and Durant.

Agree with this. He's a very good off-ball shot blocker, but is not necessarily great on the ball yet. A lot of it was a strength issue last season, as I saw other guys bully him down low. Maybe the bulk he added this off season will fix that.
