A new petition on Change.org is calling for Nintendo to change Link to a young black female in the upcoming Legend of Zelda game on Wii U.

Anton Watabe from Detroit, Michigan has started the petition.

For too many years have the black community been underrespresented [sic] in the video game industry," Watabe wrote on Change.org. "Nintendo went too far this time when they chose to make the new Link white and white only. We need to end this injustice, equality has sadly still not been truly achieved.

The petition currently has 347 supporters, but judging from the comments, it seems like some who've signed think the whole campaign is one big tongue-in-cheek joke.

Thats retarted... you would have to chage the whole story up... link isnt even human...

i think link should be customizable
they do say link doesnt talk because we believe link is the embodiment of the player
let people customize his face a lil and then be done with it
people complain just to complain
though the only black nintendo character i can think off hand is doc from punch out lil macs trainer

Same reason why we'll never see Master Chiefs face. Its stupid. I dont care about the race of video game characters

This is the simple solution. I have never cared about game characters not being black, but this fixes the problem in a way everyone can live with.

If link was black, sales would drop significantly.
In this thread, i just realized that the only "black" nintendo character that i can recall is a bullet.

I dont see why thats necessary. I dont think I recall them ever changing link much, why now? Why black? Why female?

I'm black btw, if that matters

Reminds me of people *****ing about the cover of Far Cry 4. Talmbout there's racist undertones.

So what if the guy on the cover looks racist? He's a ******* villain, he's supposed to be an unlikable ***

Or that time a bunch of old biddies with nothing better to do accused Hallmark of making a racist card.

The card said something about black holes and they thought it said black ******

People out here crying racism every chance they get not knowing that they're doing more harm than good to the cause.

PLEASE CHANGE THE GAME SO WE CAN BUY IT

people need to be smarter and realize the only power they have with a company is $$$.

spend it or don't, that is your voice.

Why not just make a new character in the game.

I haven't played the game in years so when they say make the new Link white and white only how many Links have their been so far? Link was always a blonde haired frail white dude with elf ears in each game I've seen so it's not like he's been switching up and the owners have avoided making him black and/or a female.

It'd make more sense to just create a black female hero that has to go save Link instead of changing Link.

I feel this is when this race bending stuff goes too far. A lot of black youth (among other minorities) grew up playing and loving this game but as they grow up, they learn more (about the world, history, society), experience different things, and probably got offended feel some type of way about what they grew up liking and want to change it to better represent them.

If you want real change get more black ppl in these fields creating black characters that black youth can identify with. Same goes for other minorities.

I do feel like there should be more black main characters in video games.......that arent sports related.

I'm black and it doesn't bother me that link is white mainly due to the fact that no one should tamper with the game's history but it bothers me that my people are worrying about **** like this rather than working on bettering themselves and their community.

I think Link should be a Mexican called Linko. Wouldn't that be a better story? Young Linko having to battle evil Drug Carlels to save the Princess from their compound.
