Angie Martinez Resigns from HOT97

If it wasn't for the radio I wouldn't know what was new and poppin. Especially rap it's not something I check for & most R&B I get is on adult R&B stations not those hip hop and R&B stations.

Usually I'm on Spotify or listening to a podcast but I wouldn't know what was new and hot if it was t for radio.
How many radio stations do you see going away? Only changing formats.

You can't be serious? You need radio to tell you what to listen to?

She explained why in the next few sentences:

"Especially rap it's not something I check for & most R&B I get is on adult R&B stations not those hip hop and R&B stations.

I haven't purposely listened to the radio in a long *** time. I find out about new stuff while I'm out or on here.

Bless your heart.

All of them. Why do you think they're switching formats?

Now only top 40 stations exists.

False, radio stations have always changed formats throughout times. You can find radio stations for R&B, oldies, country, rock, gospel, sports, pop...

If radio wasn't profitable corporations wouldn't be active in it.

If radio wasn't profitable and nobody listened, there would be less radio stations than 20 years ago. There aren't. You don't turn on your radio and hear five stations.

Because YOU aren't listening to the radio, doesn't mean other people aren't.

keep up champ

i don't follow top 40 stuff like that anymoe

I dont know the difference between YG and Young Thug...i'll see people tweet lyrics or talk about the new hot rapper but it never makes any sense until i hear it on the radio

people were in a tizzy about Iggy and Fancy blowing up but I just heard the song two weeks ago...

i'll hear something in the club when I do go out then ask "what song is that" and folks will look at me crazy cuz its the new hotness but I don't notice it until i hear it on the radio all the time...

artitst/stuff i like i know where to find...the new stuff rappers that seem to pop up every few months now i know nothing about unless its on twitter or radio...i know the name/song from twitter but never hear it until it reaches the radio...

Yeah, radio is dead. Hence the uprise in podcasts.

radio is far from dead

podcasts are on the come up but does anyone even use them to discover new music?

for me personally the ones i listen to are mainly interviews or people sitting around talking about what ever is hot in streets that week...

i don't know of any dropping new music for the masses to discover like radio does...

it will be a long while before podcasts reach that level

i dont think a lot of you realize how most people aren't up on technology like that...

most of us have grown up as the technology has grown up but most people couldn't give two ***** about a lot of the stuff that so many think is up and coming like podcasts

beyond youtube and maybe finding a free download link most people are spending time searching for new content...

Are you serious? Why would a station change formats if the current station is profitable?

A station ONLY switches formats when the money dries up. You have no clue what you're talking about.

Ask anyone in the radio business how things are going. They used to call radio a license to print money.

I'm not saying don't listen to radio, do what you want, but don't mix up facts.

For sure. And people discover music through two ways. Word of mouth or YouTube. What YouTube has become is something amazing y'all.

No, you have no clue what you're talking about.

Just like the additional ignorant comments about leasing and Slow being a goon. Stick to talking about things you know about. Which I'm guessing will keep your post count low.

I hear you, but it just depends on the podcast you listen to. For me, Deeper Shades Of House is downloaded religiously. I find tons and tons of new music from there. Lars is always breaking new songs, new remixes that himself even produces and other tracks that producers send him. He barely talks, but let's you know what tracks you're listening to and where you can find more etc. But this is obviously pretty genre specific. But you're right. I don't know of any other podcasts that constantly drop new tracks and provide a platform to find new music...

Met Ebro a couple months back. Dude is gassed out his mind.

The breakfast club are annoying but the back shots I want to give to Angela Yee dominate my thoughts constantly.

Happy for Angie though. Hot 97 has been falling for some time.
