Anyone ever buy an ikea bed?

Hear mixed things about ikea quality, I've never had a slated bed always had a bed box spring and rails.

I assume I need a bed frame and slates and just a mattress. I'm selling my old matress for 300 to offset cost of a new one. I'm looking at a king joint, should I just cop the ikea frame and slates and get a matress cheaper elsewhere? I hear it's not recommended because most other brand mattresses are too heavy for the slates
 
I have one, still bought a box spring, going on two years skrong. No issues, lots of heavy baby making.

Don't think it would've survived without the box spring.
 
^ I bought that exact bed (Malm).

Like DaNikeRhino said, it slowly started to break. I used it for my main bed for about 2 years. Each time I had to take it apart to move it, it got exponentially weaker and more breakier. It ended up being my guest bedroom bed for another couple of years before I finally just sold the whole thing mattress and all to a college kid for $100.

If youre a bigger dude, you might want to look into something big a box spring instead of the slats. I'm about 200 and my wife is 120. I'm gonna go ahead and blame it on her. She should have lost an extra 10lbs. I dont know if those Ikea beds are rated for weight in excess of 310lbs :D
 
Yeah I got one and the boards to hold the mattress up are a part since I can't place the screws back in place.

All of these. I bought the malm, it broke down so bad after about a year and a half of use that I had to go out and buy some 2x4s for reinforcement to keep the side slacks up. Trashed it during my move last November, wouldn't buy one again. I'm only 165lbs btw and the wife is 115. Maybe we did much heavy pounding on it :lol:
 
yea, I stay breaking the slats on my girls bed when we do what we do. I guess best option would be to keep my old bed and just cop dressers from Ikea, probably cop a headboard to make the room look cooler
 
i believe you mentioned you are coming in at 220+ lbs, correct? 

i would not attempt it...spend the dough for something you spend so much time on

not a bad idea. thats what i did. i have my bed on a frame, box springs, and headboard. the damn headboard costs more than 2x Ikea beds, but atleast i know the bed itself is going to be more stable.
 
That frames cool (I got the same one), but if you're like me and enjoy using the edge of the bed to "do what we do", say goodbye to your shins..
 
No grown man should be sleeping on an ikea bed every day.

I had one in the past and it lasted 6 months.
Wear and year will break it down to pieces. Termites will eat at the wood, and the wood will eventually rot.

Hardcore sexing will snap the slats in half and the metal beams will bend and eventually break. If you messing with a Jamaican chick, your bed will fall apart twice as fast. One girl grabbed the headboard and it completely popped off and the bed dropped head first. She didn't care though, she just twisted up her mouth, cut her eyes and fanned her vagina to "hot wuk"...anyways back on topic, just get a bed at a real furniture store. A bed is an investment. You spend majority of your day on that bed. You end your day and begin your days on that bed, fam. Why not put money into it? If you sleep on garbage, you gonna go to sleep as trash and wake up as trash. If you sleep on high quality, then you gonna go to sleep like money, and wake up like money. Feel me?
 
I wouldn't trust any furniture made with particle board with having weight put on it repeatedly.  Not for sleeping or sitting.

It'll probably hold up for some time but don't be surprised if you have to buy a new one at some point so if it's a matter of being financially strained and needing something for now that you plan on upgrading in the near future, go for it.  That veneer looks pretty poor to me but it's up to you and you might not care.

Would suck if it broke during sex or in the middle of the night.

PS.  It's slats, not slates.  If they were made of slate it'd be a different story.

You have to get one of these steel *** ones, sometimes called smart frames. They can hold way more weight and abuse, trust. Plus they are taller, some as high as 24 inches (this one from WalMart in the photo is 16) so you can use the underbed space for storage and negates the need for a box spring mattress, just put your mattress straight on top of this. They even make adjustable ones for about $250 that you can then have a tempurpedic style bed (all memory foam beds will bend with it) for the low
 
My Malm bed frame has been going strong for 10 years papi what's really good??

If anything have sex on the couch :lol:

Malm bed is da hemi of the bed world.

If you got a "living spaces" near by. Id go there. It's da hemi r/t of the bed world.
 
My malm bed lasted 3 years

If you have a malm bed that lasted over 5 years, you not handling business right

Years and tears ago, my ex bought an IKEA bed...I put it together for Her knowing I was gonna smash that night. I wanted to break that bed on the first try so she would have something to tell Her friends about. That night I entered the room with all intention of breaking that bed down to the floor (granted, I purposely left some screws out while I was assembling it). Got down to business, needless to say, I pushed the headboard out the socket, kicked the side panel to the floor, and the bed slats shifted causing the mattress to drop flat down, while the other pieces of the bed were laying out of order. Felt good

I have the Malm bed with the drawers underneath.
Never bought the slats just use a box spring
had for a little over a year and so far so good
