Dallas Mavericks 2015-2016 Season Thread

Trade is about finalized :nerd:

Feel bad for Jameer

Roughed it out 2-3 years with Magic rebuilding and then signed with Mavs only to get shipped to another rebuilding team.

I would imagine the Warriors and Suns games were the straws that broke the camels back ...Jameer with 26 min and 0 assist and 0 points put him instantly on the trade blocks.

If you can get Rondo for Branden Wright and scraps, it's a no-brainer...

Carlisle will make that **** work.

Man its like Christmas.

I sat and thought about it. Remembered how Wright couldn't even play against the Spurs in the playoffs and how he got manhandled versus Memphis the other night and I came to my senses.

I'd like to submit my candidacy in joining the Mavs bandwagon, I'm a NBA fan in good standing, been watching basketball for 30 years, and Rondo is my favorite player, references are available upon request.

That being said, how bad is Dallas' D? Any chance Cuban sells the team? He makes it difficult to root for the Mavs.

Cuban is never selling the team.

As the longest tenured NT Mavs fan I approve your application.

"All in favor say aye"

Aye

Damn you guys are lucky wish my owner was as passionate and give exactly what the fans wants and wastes no time getting #2

The irony if y'all meet Memphis in the playoffs and VC does work to his old team lol

ain't as bad as people make it... when tysons not on the floor and the 2nd unit gets matched up with good bigs they struggle... we also have one of the worst 3 pt defenses in the league but rondo can fix some of that perimeter d.

And LOL Cuban will never sell the mavs... dude is a great owner and great entrepreneur love him or hate him he does his job well.

Watch a couple mavs games and you'll see they're great to root for. Monta have it all (number 1 in the league in clutch points), parsons finding his groove (that ball fake tho), dirk = legend, tyson's intensity, barea/harris give some heart off the bench, Aminu is a good d guy... Mavs are great TV if you have league pass you know this

We went from Jose Calderon, Shawn Marion, and Sammy Dalebert to Rajon Rondo, Chandler Parsons, and Tyson Chandler in six months.

Kicker is if none of this works out we STILL have a ton of cap space. :smokin

Dallas perimeter D was very suspect, pre-Rondo. We just couldn't roll with an undersized Jameer and Monta backcourt and expect a long playoff run. Rondo brings the perimeter D we've desperately needed ever since Marion left.

Tyson is also often caught in a bad, frustrating spot when Jameer got swallowed up by a pick. Tyson has to hedge hard because Jameer couldn't recover in time, which left the backside open for easy buckets. Jameer was also big part of us being one of the worst 3FG% D in the league. At least now we should have better defensive rotations with the speed Rondo brings. Rondo can also switch onto bigger 2s.

I do get chills picturing Monta and Rajon using their speed to get pick 6s with Tyson playing safety.

For those that hate Cuban, if you can ignore his trolling (i.e. saying Thunder should tank this year when he would never do that himself ) and his other antics, I don't see how you can hate on him. Dude just loves owning a pro team and has shown it over the last 15+ years he's owned the Mavs.

Guy has actually and admitted to losing tons of money from the Mavs over the last several years as far as profits and yet he doesn't care since his goal is to put together a championship team.

That's f'n :pimp: x10000000000 right there when most other owners generally care more about making money even if it means putting together a lesser product on the court/field (since 99% of em are businessmen after all). Dude doesn't approach his team as a business; treats it like a fan would. Just does his best to put together the best team.

Donnie for GM of the year? ...maybe :smokin

The only thing people are concerned about here is how does he mesh offensively...

Are we really worried about Rick Carlisle not being able to make this work? They said the same **** about Monta when we signed him, and he's playing at the highest level he's ever played.

I think we'll be fine too. Get the talent here, and let a HoF-level head coach work his magic.

Imagine Ellis running a pick and roll with Dirk, the play getting busted, with a kickout to Rondo for a secondary pick and roll to Tyson for a dunk or kickout to Parsons on the wing. Our bench needs shoring up, but having 5 players of this caliber puts a lot of pressure on defenses. Staggering starter minutes (a la Dirk now) should help our bench production.

I loved BWright and what he brought to the table, but he wouldn't get any playing time in the playoffs. Barely got on the floor versus the Spurs (Blair got a lot of the backup big minutes), and you could see how poorly we did against the Memphis front line a few games ago.

A little late, but I'm pretty bummed we lost Wright. I thought Devin and Brandan coming off the bench together worked really well for us. Our bench is going to have a hard time scoring now. I'd like to see us pick up Okafor as our back-up center. If not, I'd love to see Brandan re-sign once his contract is up after this season.

As for Rondo, I have mixed feelings about him. The pros are that he's a bigger guard (something we desperately needed), a great passer and a legit defender. The cons... He. Can't. Shoot. Being 33% from the free throw line is unacceptable and unheard of for a point guard. Also, quite a few of those fancy passes of his do lead to turnovers, which I'm expecting there to be a lot of during his first few games. At Dirk's current age, I don't think he'll be ready for all those no look passes, haha. Monta's job should be a little easier now since he won't have to handle the ball as much. I'm sure the "give Monta the ball and hope for something good to happen" strategy when we're struggling to score will still happen, though.

My favorite PG on my favorite team. This should be beautiful.

I feel the same way about Brandan Wright. He was a good back up, provided energy/shot blocking/scoring off the bench, and had great chemistry with Devin Harris, but he definitely didn't match up well against the Spurs last year in the playoffs or against the Grizzlies.

People keep saying the Mavs lost a lot of depth from that trade. I don't really think so. We have hella guards, so Nelson won't be missed. I didn't think he fit the team well anyways. Crowder was inconsistent and we have Aminu and Jefferson as the back up SF's anyways. Wright will be missed, but he can be replaced if we can sign O'Neal or Okafor. Greg Smith is buns. Being from Houston, I've seen him play a lot when he was on the Rockets.

Basically, I think our bench of Barea, Harris, Aminu, and Jefferson can be good. We just need another back up 5 and/or 4.
