Dallas Mavericks 2015-2016 Season Thread

Thomas is small but he's a really solid player.

That, and the fact that there are not that many options out there

Haha I seriously thought you meant "it".

Yeah Thomas is really undersized. He's a great backup and change of pace type of guard, much like JJ Barea when he was here.

Which is why I would sit this year out making huge commitments to middle of the road players.

They've gone about this thing wrong the whole way through. If you want a star, you've gotta be able to get two. That's the only way to attract guys. Melo signed in NY because it's New York. Everyone else has gone with someone. Big Three, Deron and Joe, Dwight and Harden. Dudes wanna play together. If you wanna be competitive on that front, you need space for two. We'll have that next year.

Looks like mavs are softening their view on Lance Stephenson... still a long shot.

Potential targets (reality):

Luol Deng

Trevor Ariza

Chandler Parsons

DJ Augustin

Al Farooq aminu

Paul Pierce

Jason Smith

Isaiah Thomas

Pau Gasol

Yuck. Just don't go crazy. None of those guys make us contenders and many are likely to command enough to kill our flexibility going forward.

Parsons ain't leaving, and while I like Deng on defense I don't think his offensive game is up to par. Ariza would be an alright option but it bothers me to spend 10 mil on him (thank John Wall for boosting his stats last season).

10 mil a season to Stephenson instead? eh...

Also talk of bringing in Pierce to 1 year deal and resigning everyone from last year, would give us flexibility for next years loaded FA class.

I don't know how Lance would fit in. He puts up poor numbers as a SF. I could only see him starting at SG and moving Monta to the point.

I think Deng is a good fit. He's had to carry too big of a load and play too many minutes. He'd thrive in Carlisle's system.

If Bosh signs max with HOU then I think it would be the perfect time for the Mavs to woo Chandler Parsons with a good offer. Fits the flow system pretty well.

only names here that remotely excite me to help the team are Parsons and Gasol and Thomas

Chandler isn't going anywhere, I don't think.

And Deng is going to command 4/$48 or more and I'm not fired up at the idea of making that kind of commitment.

just now

Mavericks pushing on an offer sheet agreement with Houston restricted free agent Chandler Parsons, league sources tell Yahoo. - WOJ

#Mavs  closing in on re-signing Vince Carter, source said. Still in the hunt for Parsons, Deng, Stephenson, Ariza and P-Gasol.

Carter deal is finalizing... meanwhile summer league roster:

G Dee Bost (Mississippi State)
G Chris Smith (Louisville)
C Bernard James (Florida State)
G Ricky Ledo (Providence)
G/F Axel Toupane (France)
F C.J. Fair (Syracuse)
F Eric Griffin (Campbell)
F James Nunnally (UC Santa Barbara)
F Javon McCrea (Buffalo)
F Sean Evans (St. John’s)
F Jackie Carmichael (Illinois State)
G Gal Mekel (Israel)
G Chris Goulding (Australia)
C Ivan Johnson (Cal State San Bernardino)

Interesting...

Good lord that's depressing... There's not one guy on there that is likely to ever give us any sort of impact production...

Not sure if I want to make Parsons the highest paid player on the team at around $15MM. Hard to gauge his ceiling, but I always wondered how other players perceived salary (e.g., does Monta care that he'd only be making half of what Parsons makes?)

I know Sean Evans, covered him when I was at St. John's. He had good size and was athletic but overall as a player made a lot of stupid mistakes. Shocked he's developed his game enough to make a summer lg team

Sean was a knucklehead at times but he loved playing ball. Has a great motor. Curious to see how his knowledge of the game has improved. Lot of his mistakes had to do with him focusing primarily on football growing up. Basketball was his sport 2 until college.

He also was coached under Norm Roberts which sure stunted his growth

Think he has enough in him to make it to the final roster?

Felton

Harris

Mekel

Ellis

Carter

Ledo

Crowder

Nowitzki

Wright

Chandler

10 players under contract / verbal agreements. Assuming we sign Parsons to a near-max offer sheet, that leaves 4 spots. Would like to see Marion come back at the bi-annual exception, sign a combination of Blair, James, Fair, or Johnson.

Looks like Mo Williams meeting with the Mavs today. We need shooting badly, but at the right price.

I'm excited to see Sarge (contract year), CJ Fair (good on pick n rolls), and Ivan Johnson (had a good stint in China) in Summer League, even though I don't expect any of them to make a big impact on the roster.

Would yall rather have the mavs pay 10 mil + to CP or Lance Stephenson? Not so keen on rolling the dice with Ariza, dude doesn't show up on after big contracts

I'd take Parsons over Lance. Both are athletic and can shoot the 3, but I'd rather not deal with Lance's behavioral issues.

Lance is also very ball dominant, which could take away from Monta's effectiveness.

Old news now, but Mavs and Parsons have agreed to a 3 year, $45+MM offer sheet.

Hopefully it goes through. Parsons provides the length, athleticism, and 3 point shooting that we need.

Parsons was one of the three 3's I wanted us to get this off-season (between him, Ariza and Deng), but that contract... Yikes. I mean, I understand why they made it so high, but that's too much to be paying him right now, even for a young player on the upside. I'm not sure how Cuban expects to get Dirk another ring when there's barely any money left to sign anyone good. ...That's assuming Houston doesn't match, anyway.

With all that said, we still have a bigger problem: Raymond Felton. He needs to go. If we get another point guard, I'd still prefer Devin to come off the bench since the chemistry between him and Wright was great last season. Those alley oops were a problem for a lot of teams. I really hope we don't get rid of Wright because of any incoming free agents.
