Dallas Mavericks 2015-2016 Season Thread

Sick of all this negative BS that comes out of Dallas media outlets after losses.

Seems like everyone abandons ship after a slump... Mavs need better fans.
Rick clowning MacMahon after the game was great. I thought this article was way overblown, imo.

Who do yall wanna face the 1st round?

I think our best shot is against the Blazers then Houston.
Those are the ideal matchups. Beverly likely out for the season, so they don't have a lockdown defender to guard Ellis. I also like Rondo guarding Harden. Tyson matches up well against Dwight too. Portland is also a good matchup, since they've been hit with injuries too.

I'd prefer Houston over Portland though. Portland is a tougher matchup because we can't hide Dirk on Lopez, and LMA draws Tyson out past his comfort zone.

good point about lma and lopez. Houston has a pretty good pick and roll defense which is our bread and butter, but if we play like the last matchup against them I think we'll fare well. We play them next week should be a good one.

Yeah, these final games leading up to the playoffs will tell us a lot. One thing to note, the Spurs will likely have to finish one game ahead of us to jump us in the standings by virtue of tiebreakers.

Thoughts on the best backcourt for next season?

I think Beverley/ Ellis would be optimal (can't believe I'm agreeing with McMahon)

I don't want Pat Bev at all, would rather keep Rondo over him.

I love Monta but he doesn't deserve a Parsons contract, hell even Parsons doesn't deserve a Parsons contract, so if he want to opts out, then I would look at Wes Matthews or Danny Green 3-D type guards ...however some think Monta may opt in for his last year in order to cash in on the 2016 cap increase.

I truly think Rondo will be much improved with a full training camp with this team, however if LA or NY offer him a max deal, then he can also leave.

Agreed on this. I really dislike Beverly.

I have no issues of re-signing Monta to a $12-13mil/year contract. We'll be over the cap and need to utilize Bird Rights on Rondo and Tyson to keep this group together.

I do wonder if Rondo would leave to play on more mediocre teams in LA and NY. Does he want to waste the remaining years of his prime trying to make playoffs, or does he want to compete for a championship every year? I think a summer with Holger will help him immensely. His jumper is already looking better based on pointers from Holger.

We're the only West playoff team that hasn't had their core together for more than a year. Continuity would help a lot, so I hope this group can stay together.

Was reading one of "Mavs Outsiders" articles that brought up the possibility of trading for Deron Williams... interesting to say the least and you never know what will happen in the off season.

Huge games Wednesday and Thursday... Monta looks to be a go. Who would yall rather play in the first round HOU or MEM? Watch out for the Clips rising in the standings too.

We match up terribly against Memphis. I'd much rather play Houston, especially since Beverly is out.

Not sure how I feel about trading for DWill. He's looked better as of late, but his injury history is a huge deterrent for me.

I no longer want D-Will, when he had the chance to come home his punk *** chose to stay in Brooklyn partly b/c he was in love with the Russian billionaire, we need to get/stay younger, not older anyway.

In regard to the playoffs, we do not match up well against Golden State, Memphis, and Clippers, but if we catch lightening in a bottle we could beat any of the other teams, especially with KD, Dwight, and Wes Matthews missing at least the first round.

^ KD and Mathews are done for the year if I recall correctly.

Dwight has been back hasn't he? Albeit slowly working his way back into rotation.

Yes, Dwight is back on a minutes restriction, and he should be available for the playoffs.

KD has been shut down for the season and had surgery on his foot today. Wes is out for a few months with a ruptured achilles, which is especially unfortunate because this was a contract year for him.

Houston and Portland are the best matchups, imo. We won't get Portland because they'll be stuck at the 4 seed as a division winner. Odds are favored for Houston to win the Southwest division over Memphis, so we'll see what happens.

I hope we get Houston
Agreed. Last night's game was win-able...hope Parsons injury isn't serious. Rondo been playing better as of late.... that Dirk-Stat lineup scares me at times though (defensive liability). Aminu balls out against HOU

why? not here to troll. just want another team's perspective on us.
The style of play that you guys play at is similar to ours... lots of running and gunning and transition buckets (ala our flow offense). We fair better against teams like that, then say Memphis and their slow, grind it out style. With Beverley out, you guys lose a defensive stopper so it opens up the floor more for Monta. The matchups all bode well, as Rondo has been playing Harden well in the few games against you guys.

Every game we played against yall this season has come down to the wire where either team could have won, and most of those games have been back to backs for us. In terms of coaching we have an advantage, but you guys have the clear rebounding edge (if we didn't give up so many 2nd chance points last night we would have won).

Both teams rely on the jumpshot heavily.. so with a good shooting night either way, any team could win on a given night.

yeah i agree with this. all of our games are really close and could swing either way. would make for a very good series.

we lookin at spurs clippers series cause rockets aint beatin the mavs....... bring on spurs!!!!

I really think it's time to start all the way over. Don't re-sign anyone and start fresh. Keep Dirk of course and embrace the tank. They won't be able to deal parsons but at least try it in the off season.

I don't think the front office will do these things, but it's time to realize it's the end. Monta isn't good enough (or young enough) to build around

I think that's an overreaction to the first 2 games of the series. Houston did what they were supposed to do and held serve on their homecourt. Let's see how Dallas responds this weekend.

It's important to note that we hold Bird Rights for Rondo and Tyson and Early Bird Rights for Monta, meaning we can go over the cap to re-sign them in the offseason. If Dallas decides to blow it up, we won't have the cap space to sign starter quality talent at the 1, 2, and 5 spots. Bird Rights gives us that flexibility. Also, no one is going to trade for Parsons because of his high salary and 15% trade kicker. Ideally, we sign a 3-and-D type player, and bring Monta off the bench.

Dallas took a lead early in the 4th before Houston made that huge run. The 4/5 PNR hurts because Dirk flashes too hard. I'd like to see more Aminu at the 4 to negate some of that. Normally, Dirk's offense balances out his defensive deficiencies but with a poor shooting performance like last night, it's hard to win (especially with Parsons and Harris out). I expect Rick to make the right adjustments going into Game 3.
