There are talks that mavs might absorb joe johnsons deal
Sorry, man. I don't want it to happen but at this point, I'm very pessimistic. I don't want Joe Johnson. I'd rather take on Deron's contract and get a starting PG, since we have so much cap room. Free Agency is almost over, but we do have cap room to absorb players via trade. Maybe PHX or IND will throw us a bone via S&T so we can max out on trade exceptions too.

There are reports of Josh Smith as well :smh:

Another reason Tyson wasn't resigned this year was due to his performance in the playoffs against Houston as TC was thoroughly abused by Howard, and the team knew our only hope against the rest of the SW division was acquiring DeAndre.

There is no way Dallas can match up against Gasol, Zbo, Duncan, Aldridge, Davis, or Howard without DeAndre so Cuban had to absolutely try to get him in Dallas even at the expense of TC.

You can't fault what dallas did. Swung for the fences and got what they wanted... then this nightmare happened that they simply did not deserve. "It is what it is"

I'm not mad he didn't bring back TC, he's washed now. Mavs are just in a state of flux that we could not predict.

I simply don't know what to expect going forward for once so I'm not expecting anything

Philly
Portland
Nuggets
NYK
Minny

^ should be the competing for the trash title. The nuggets are going to have to sell off assets. There's a chance the Mavericks can be really bad. They'll have to try though.

Portland will be better than us...

SAC and DET will also be in play for the lottery. It will be tough. If Simmons can put more weight on, he'd be a great replacement for Dirk.

I also don't know how much truth there is behind Mark's tanking comment. He believes in putting a great product out there for the fans. It's easier to say that when he thought he had DJ committed. We'll see what happens.

cuban wants to put fans in those seats and sell season tickets... he cannot stand an empty arena so he will put some sort of roster together. That's what makes this predicament even more frustrating... I will bet we will fall in the range of where Orlando/ sac/ denver fell in this year

Meh... We weren't gonna win **** bringing back Tyson Chandler and he wasn't gonna help bridge the gap between eras by attracting other guys to come here.

We struck lightning in a bottle in 2011 and we weren't gonna win again with that core, either.

I have no problem with the home run philosophy on free agency... Where I do fault them is the complete disregard for the draft for a decade now. It's criminal and its 100% why we are up **** creek without a paddle right now. No assets. No attractive young players. Our entire future hinging 1000% on landing major FAs coveted by everyone in the league for 5 years now.

I've been a STH for 5 years now. Tanking over the next few seasons would seriously make me reconsider renewing because the costs do add up.

Drafting has been such a big issue. We end up with players like Mo Ager, Jared Cunningham (sick shoe game though!), DoJo, Shane Larkin, etc. Missed on players like Jimmy Butler and Giannis. Obviously hindsight is 20/20, but you have to put higher value on solid production on cheap rookie contracts. At least we drafted a solid 3-D player this season that should have a productive NBA career (at least relative to our other draft picks, outside of Josh Howard and Jae Crowder).

I also agree the 2011 championship team definitely wouldn't have repeated. Look at Jet's production the year after. Kidd was a shell of himself and only played one more season in NY after that. DeShawn's out of the league. Barea had terrible production in MN. The only thing we should've done was at least re-sign Tyson. Cuban conceded that fact after we traded for Tyson last summer. If anything, we could've used him as a trade chip the past 4 seasons.

I also have no issue with the FA philosophy. For years, Mark and the FO were able to put together talent around Dirk by taking on bad contracts because he didn't care as long as we were winning. With the 2011 CBA, things changed. He overvalued cap space (rather than having talent outside of Dirk on the roster), and we lost out on Deron and Dwight. The one offseason we actually got a commitment from DAJ, he pulls an asshat move and reneges. If DAJ stayed, we wouldn't be having this conversation.

I like what [@=/u/38037/SneakerPro]@SneakerPro[/@] mentioned in the NBA thread. Flip Rick Carlisle for a 1st round pick. I could see Charlotte buying it since they are in win now mode.
Hell no. He's our most valuable asset

He has 1 year on his contract.

If you think he's going to re-up on a rebuilding team you are crazy.

Dude is going to Houston after this year, watch.

I vehemonly disagree.

Tyson, Dirk, and pieces still could have got out the West in 2012. Maybe not 2013 or 2014 but we could have given it another run.

Plus we chased Deron ******* Williams to do this. Deron Williams signing here would have been a catastrophe.

pop stayed in san an during their short rebuilding phase.. he's our Sloan plus I think he genuinely feels bad after this debacle in free agnecy. They'll give him a fat cut next year and he'll be back. McHale just reupped too... I could only see him going to the cavs if they fire Blatt

Bro they were bad for literally one year.

8th seed, 7th seed, lottery then an unknown future of probably more lottery trips.

It ain't the same man.

My Top 3 Worse DFW Sports Moments:

3. This Deandre Jordan Debacle- Waited until the very last day to let the Mavs know that he actually enjoy carrying Blakes and CP3's ball sac on his tonsils ...single handedly fu*kin the franchise up for next few years.

2. 2006 NBA Finals- Shaq and Zo were amazing in the Finals that year in addition to D.Wade re-inventing the flop and shooting a NBA Finals record in free throw attempts. (Harden later re-re-invented the flop)

1. 2011 World Series- The TX Rangers were literally 1 freakin out away from winning the pennant but Nellie Cruz 3rd out dropped fly ball, followed by a David Freese HR in extra ininnings ....I actually started celebrating in this one. :smh:

Ready for football season
Don't forget Steve Nash leaving in 2006 and the 3jays break up in 96

I was born and raised a Cowboys fan, and that robbery that occurred against Dez would undoubtedly would be #1 to me. Cubes being frugal and not paying Nash would be a very close second.

Yall shouldn't been playing in that damn game to get robbed in the first place!

Justice was served!

Man between the Lions and Mavs its been a rough year so far :smh:

1. 06 Finals will never be topped ever unless my kid makes it to the pros and gets cheated.

2. 11 World Series is 2nd and I'm not even a big baseball fan.

3. 07 to Golden State because I actually started doubting Dirk.

4. DJ, DJ could move up depending on how good he is the next 3 years.

Welp, we didn't sign him, but he may be coming after all.

Story going online now: ESPN sources say Deron Williams seeking release from Brooklyn Nets so he can sign with his hometown Dallas Mavericks

Of course this will only happen on a buyout agreement. We don't have cap space anymore after absorbing Zaza's contract.
