Get a Lenovo with a solid processor

Drop an SSD and more RAM in it

/thread

have a win 7 laptop and open to windows 8
800 is a bit slim for something capable of video editing.

I'd buy something with the best CPU I could afford & dedicated graphics..

Buy an SSD & max the ram out afterwards

Will end up costing you less in the long run

I did that with my Dell e6530. With the 256gb SSD and 16gb of ram, came out to <1100

Look into Lenovo thinkpads & dell latitudes(check their outlet store).

Edit: This is pretty good http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834152570

I was thinking about getting the SP3 but didn't like the keyboard ... How you like it?

The keyboard took a couple days to adjust too. Now its like any laptop. I love it now and wouldn't choose anything else on the market at the moment.

I gave it a hard hard look and the pen is awesome but ultimately I chose the Yoga 2 Pro ....the Quad Screen I7 256gb 8gb for that price it was too good ....

I don't blame you man. I got it from work and I had the choice on what to pick. I went with this because the direct support from MS and it was different. Overall happy bit that Lenovo is a deal.

Get an Asus laptop. It lasts for years and it doesn't heat up when you use it on your bed.

dude seriously, just get a mac. you'll never get a virus, its super easy to use, durable and frankly indestructible from an internal standpoint. I've had mine since 2010 and its been working perfectly like the day I bought it. My dad uses windows and has gone through two laptops in the same time frame. You won't regret spending the extra few hundred down the line, trust me.

He didn't ask for a mac.

Why do y'all pollute these topics with the BS?

if you refer to it as a pollution of "BS" so be it, but the majority of us insisting on macs have a reason for doing so, they're great machines and are much better than windows...i'm just trying to look out for a fellow NTer and save him from the trouble windows computers undoubtedly hold down the line

How you figure is do much better? That's a matter of opinion and not facts ....

Ever been to a Apple store? You see the computer being brought in like crazy ...

Plain and simple ... If you take care of your product is going to last you.

I'm no computer expert, but I'm speaking based on personal experience on having using windows computers the majority of my life since the last 4 years. And I can guarantee you that macs are less susceptible to viruses than windows computers are, as well as faster and more durable in the long run. In terms of opinion, I prefer the interface of macs much more as well as I find it to be a lot simpler and easier to navigate than windows.

The majority of people I know with windows computers have noticed their computers to be significantly slower with time and are more often than none infected with a virus or malware of some sort, and are often looking for a new computer within a year or two. You don't get that with macs, and this is coming from someone who has their macbook on literally for weeks on in with daily usage coming on 5 years now, it still runs like new. I'm not a "fanboy" or anything, don't buy every apple product, I don't even have an iphone, but a macbook is something I never will regret purchasing, it's that great and worth the money.

Bought the Surface Pro 3 last week.

Absolutely loved the hardware but Windows 8/8.1 is total poop. Might be the worst OS I've ever experienced. Borderline unusable for me, which is a shame seeing the Win 7 was one of the best.

Took it back the next day.

Waiting on the refund check to cop a Macbook Pro with all the fixins.

What?

I used to think the same way about windows 8 until I had no choice .... I think its pretty amazing and very user friendly once you start using it the way it was meant to be ...
