I had a few questions.. I'll be moving out there sometime towards the end of this year or beginning of 2015 with a friend of mine. He was gonna move to Alabama with his family but when I told him I was moving to Nashville, he said he'd rather go with me and get a place to split rent and whatnot.

Any of you guys live out there? What's the music scene really like? (One of my main motivators is the music scene) How hard is it to find decent jobs? I'm looking on the Nashville craigslist for apartments and housing, but I know that locals probably know the good spots way better than anything I can find on there.

Any tips?

I'm moving from Sacramento, CA btw.. gonna be driving all the way over there, make a few stops to see the sights of course.

I'm planning on saving at least 4k-5k before leaving for obvious reasons like rent, food, gas, etc. until I can find a decent job.

Bachelorette party capital of America. I hear it's great.

I'm hoping that it's everything I have pictured, but I don't wanna think of it as the holy land only to be let down.

Plus I wanna be realistic about money and living situations, that way I actually do make it out there.

Good luck OP. You sound like you have a plan. Take that leap of faith and have a vision and the universe will guide you. Keep God first and have faith.

Thanks, famb. I'm hoping to hit it off in the music scene (I play country music) and really enjoy life. I'm hoping that things are what I think they are, and I end up loving it out there. Probably the biggest decision I've made in my life, and I really want to do it so I'm planning intelligently.

This is what I'm hoping for. haha

Come on, I know that some people on here gotta have an insight on Nashville..

From Sac to Nashville in a car?!?

 Got damb.

GL bro.

Nashville Is a college town, so good amount of clubs and bars. people is real friendly and shouldn't be hard to find work. As for the music scene any night of the week you'll find some random person or group performing downtown on Broadway. At least that how it was between 04-09 when I was in college.

The only good thing to come out of Tennessee is Young Buck and Jack Daniels forreal forreal

Went to Nashville last year it was awesome. Play your music on Broadway to get noticed and if you ever meet Shad Storey then you know you've made it.

You're going to need more than 5 grand startup fund for the move.

Just moving the cheap way (UHaul/Budget/Penske) will cost a couple grand, then you'll have to factor in first month rent + security deposit (your half in Nashville probably $1000), followed by new car registration, insurance, health insurance etc.

I only say this because I moved with my wife from the Carolinas to Orlando last month and the hidden fees were absurd.

Nashville is wack as fuk.  Theres nothing popping over here.  A lot of rednecks and ****.  A few decent white yambs with a big cornfed booty, but thats about it.  You might like it OP since your're into country music and whatnot.

Are you a local or just speaking from hearsay

Nashville will be great for you if you are into music. More studios per capita than anywhere else in the world. Plus the best studio in North America, arguably the world,(Blackbird) For music lovers there is literally ALWAYS something to do.

Hundreds of places you can perform your original music.
Tonight there was live music on the riverfront to kick off the 4th of July weekend event and most of the bands were local.

Compared to anywhere in CA, Nashville is inexpensive.
Plan on paying anywhere between 600-700/month for rent for a two bedroom 2 bathroom in a halfway decent part of town.(Not the great part of town but not the hood)
Food is not expensive, gas is up to about $3.55, but will probably go down some.

Taxes are high here. 9.25% sales tax on everything. No state income tax though.
Another negative about Nashville is the driving. IMO some of the worst drivers in the nation(traffic for no reason, inability to merge onto highway etc)

lmk if you have any other questions.

Get the hell out of here with this stuff.

OP, you play country? I would love to hear some of your stuff.

bruh theres thousands of dudes just like you over there..

people that have just up and left to "make it"

i wish you the best but you will have to get a real job to actually survive.

this is also coming from a guy that has always been into music, i make music in my spare time when im not working.

which is how i was able to get my equipment, unless you feel your craft is flawless and that you will stand out from the other hipsters there then aiight but if not..

just stay where you are and stack some doe, you really wanna be trying to make it while running low on ends?

it takes a while to actually make it in the biz, and the times we are in, people can make songs from their bedrooms and become overnight sensations.

im not into that whole thing though, dont even have any songs on the net except a crappy 30 second snippet on myspace of a loop i made a couple years ago.

^ Sounds advice.

I hope you make it spizike, I do believe you should save up more money than 4 or 5k before moving.

I stay in Nashville.

Sell all your stuff and rent a car and come here. Use the money from your sold stuff to purchase new stuff here. Stuff is cheap here especially funiture

Move to Antioch suburb of Nashville. Get a apartment. I recommend Hickory club apartments. Most apartments here is only $150 deposit and first month rent

Music us everywhere especially pubs bars and lounges. Lots of singing by amateurs, lots of bands and blues and jazz bands play in every lounge and bars

Traffic is not good

Just a warning people here think slow move slow drive slow. And they can't drive. Your stress level will skyrocket because of this.

If your good at getting a job you only need like 2k saved unless you trying to bar and club everynight

Your car have to go through emmmisions test. You don't have to transfer it over for awhile

Lots of gangs, shootings robbery of houses and gas stations, drugs and other petty stuff go on here

I have nothing to contribute.

Never been to Nashville, don't like country music, and think the Titans aren't a good franchise...

With all that being said...

I'm only in here for the mobility and positivity vibes...

Love seeing folks explore to do their things...

Good luck... And remember that new guys in town get yambs...
