Is General slowing down?

I know, we make this thread every month. Blah blah. Then someone is gonna quote this line. Etc.

But really, I'm not sure if it's just me but I find myself not being as active on NT General as I used to be. I'm unsure what it is. What I noticed that seems to be missing a lot is the viral videos. When I would come on NT, I would find all my online memes or "currently trending videos" through NT. I feel like I'm out of the loop now, when it comes to online events or cool/popular youtube videos. As well, there seems to be a lack of news threads? I liked to be informed and this was my one stop place to come and read about a little bit of everything. Are people scared to make threads? I'm not sure what it is, but I miss it.

As well, it seems as if we lost our "characters" of NT. By that I mean like the constant familiar posters. I don't know if they're visiting less or posting less as well? I don't even know the story behind why Ninjahood isn't here anymore. I feel like people are posting less of themselves, by that I mean people who share their lives with NT. Whether it's girl problem threads, or posting photos of a vacation someone took somewhere (some of my favorite threads). I loved getting glimpses of people's lives around the nation/world. It was nice and it made me feel connected, that's what I loved about NT, what made it have that home feel.

And to relate back to Ninja, is TAN really killing it? I didn't want to believe it but wasn't there some statistics done? Can someone find it, as I'm curious how the traffic of NT General is currently compared to what it was before.

I think it's just we have so many official threads things that would normally get posted in a new topic just goes into the threads with a post then it gets sorted out by the ones who frequent that thread.

It's like Twitter, except on NT. With less funny individuals. If that sounds appealing for whatever reason, then yeah, you're missing out.

We have an official thread for everything, so if you're not keeping up with the thread you'll miss out on a lot. I know when I visit a new thread I usually look at the first and last page and skip everything else in between.

I agree OP. I used to be able to browse general for several pages, and now I only pretty much read the first page.
I want to say it started going downhill after the move.
But TAN def helped kill general. It doesn't help when the first reply in any thread is "not thread worthy", or "post in TAN." :stoneface:

NT is cooked. Its due to the quality of posters more than anything. Its been iss lite for a while. Nothing lasts forever though.

Summer doldrums.

This chart shows posts in the General forum over the last three years. Historically, we've always had a lull in June.

Things move in cycles. (The way that Bobby Brown was just ampin' like Michael.)

Of greater significance are the YoY stats. This June was busier than last June. If the pattern holds, we can expect things to start picking up again soon.

Of course, it's all relative. Your "slow June" of 2014 was busier, by posting activity, than was December 2013 - or any single month in 2012.

Perception doesn't always square with reality. Even if things aren't objectively slower than normal (from a seasonal standpoint), as regulars of the General forum we're hardly without influence in the matter. Every one of you has the power to change the contents of the forum at will.

I've always been of a mind that it's better to light a candle than curse the darkness. If you feel that things have been a little sluggish in the General forum for your taste, why not create a new thread? Be the change you want to see. That was our attitude in creating the site to begin with, and I'd like to think that's part of our community's character.
