YO! The Official Jay Z post...

Yo this joint is amazin for real....instant classic.

To me its Hovs third best. Just off the fluidity and the way he killed the concept angle kills TBA.

Say Hello...is some whole other type of @#%$.

I mean...dude basically summed up the American Inner City experience pefectly in one album. In that sense its actually better than RD. I can't remember hearing an album that breaks down the "hustlers" ethos as succintly and artistically as this jawn. Its like a whole album of "Can I live" and "Regrets".

Dig it....

Pray - Its basically a rundown of Hovs hustling career, he uses scenes from AG as a backdrop to his life. But underneath that its a statement on the spirtual wrestling that goes on in the soul of street dudes. Crazy storytelling on this one.

American Dreamin - WOW. This joint is audio voodoo. One of the best explanations of the dichotomy that leads black males to hustle in America. Beautiful. Can't really say too much about this. Just classic music right here.

Roc Boys - Celebration of success in classic Roc-a-fella fashion.

Sweet - Coming to terms with your crooked life and its effects on others. "It may not be what you call perfect...but its my life. I make no apologies, crooked policies...so a G a N' gotta be. We playin for property no Monoply, so i'll pass go and let my nephews follow me"

If you thought this was the smooth out, female track....smack yaself. This track is all about addictionvein |I

Red Lights, cheap wine, potent reefers and wifey pettin the kitty in the corner.

Ignorant @#%$ - "Scarface the movie did more than Scarface the rapper to me...still that aint to blame for all the @#%$ that happened to me. Lets stop the bullishin, till we all free of sin lets stop the pulpittin." All about the effects of popular culture on society :smh:

My buddy got his copy since he works at a CD store and he's been listening to it nonstop. I heard it over the weekend and honestly, this is my way of summing it up:

ABSOLUTE instant classic if Prelude opened up this album instead of KC. Did anyone else think of this?

Even at that, I think people are going to realize how good this is in 6 months, even moreso in a year, and in a couple years, just like The Black Album, people are going to accept the fact that this is probably a classic hip-hop album.

And since people are kind've on the topic: AG>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Graduation. From the production to the lyrics to the damn album cover!

So the Roc Boys video is premiering tomorrow?

I know its wishful thinking but I kinda wish Dame would be in the video pouring expensive alcohol on chicks.

As for American Gangster:
I love how the album has no made for radio joints. (Hello BK and Blue Magic are close.)

The album is soooo solid. More consistent than KC and more fluid than TBA. I think in time this album will eventually overtake TBA in the upper tier of Jay's catalog.

Back to Hello Brooklyn. I actually like the song, but it really sounds like a Lil' Wayne song with a Jay-Z feature. Jay was better off leaving this for Weezy to put on Carter 3.

I'm pretty amped for tomorrow. Of course I've heard the singles, but other than that, I only previewed one track. Its been damn near forever since I've actually bought an album in-store on release date--it's gonna feel strange.
We livin' this cuz it's deep in our bones...

The stark contrast of talent between the two albums is catastrophic, down right embarrassing. Real talk, I actually felt bad for Kanye---how can he think lyrics like this is gon' put him at the top 5....N is more gassed than a little bit.

I don't like the way Jay-Z has somewhat of an accent like Lil' Wayne out of nowhere on some of these songs. Or is that just me?

Edit: Also, I know I'm not the only one who thinks Lil' Wayne ruined Hello Brooklyn.

My dude LV in the front w/ the Big Pun pendent. They speak about their 6 tracks on the Jay album.
Quote:
Truth be told Sean C and LV are the real production muscle behind American Gangster. Dont call it a comeback, but Jay is hotter than hes been since the Black Album and these two studio rats are the ones to thank. Youre invited to the new generation Hitmens coming out party.

So you guys were already working together before becoming part of Puffys new Hitmen, correct?
LV: Yeah Shawn and I have Grind Music. Weve worked a lot with Puff. On Press Play we had a song called I Am. We did a song called Get Off. That was like his James BrownPuffs 2007 James Brown.

Were you guys involved with the process when Jay came by Puffs studio and heard the tracks the first time?
LV: Definitely. How it all started was we were in the studio one day vibing with Puff like, Yo, we just got mad beats. He was like, You know what? @#%$ just called Jay. 15-20 minutes later Jay just walked in the studio. It was crazy cause he was supposed to stay for 15 minutes and wound up staying for three hours just listening to beats.

He said he heard like 30 tracks.
LV: Yeah. He came back probably like a week later and then he played us a couple of songs and then, he was like, Okay, we know where we got to go now. We just went in from there.

So Sean, you were also behind that Cant Knock The Hustle joint. You actually already had worked with Jay.
Sean C: Yeah, that was in the beginning.

So how is it like working with him now compared to back then, is it pretty much the same vibe?
Sean C: Well, hes much, much, much richer

[Laughs]
Sean C: Its definitely a little different. Its still creative though hes still crazy creative and all that.

So I heard Sweet was one of the first joints that came together right away.
Sean C: Yeah we gave em the joint and he put the vocals on it and we added everything afterwards. Like, we just kept going back and forth. He came by Daddys House a couple times and we were just in there working. Hed hear a joint like, Yeah oh @#%$! I need that! and hes like, Yo send that over to me. So we send beats over to Roc The Mic and he send em back with vocals.

So what did yall think when you first heard Sweet?
LV: It was likehonestly that @#%$ is likeI hate to say it even though it may sound corny but its like a dream. Most of the time when you work with people and you give them your beat and youll get the finished product and sometimes you are like, Damn! He aint really kill it! But Jay just took the @#%$ to like another level. Further than I would think somebody might be able kill the beat. So I was just like, Oh. We actually heard Sweet and then No Hook. So thats when we really got amped and we came up with Roc Boys. And its a coincidence Jay heard it and hes like its a celebration. Thats how we felt.

So it looks like Roc Boys is gonna be a single. Bet yall cant wait to hear that joint rock in the club.
LV: Ima bug out cause I bug out in the club already. But when I hear the Roc Boys joint pshhJesus Christ!

Sean C: Im excited to hear what people are going to say about it. Cause you got the horns, and all thatit dont sound like any record out right now. That one was something we did that we want people to be like, Damn I wish I did that beat!

So these tracks are sample driven but with live instrumentation on top, right?
Sean C: Yeah like with Roc Boys, the horn sample is crazy. But, its much better if you have the live horns so you can put extra parts. We got my man Wolverine, he plays bass. He comes in and plays on all our joints, we was doing that since we had a little studio uptown.

So explain how Puff gets heavily involved with the final arrangements.
LV: Puff come in the studio and hes like, Aight, thats hot, but I want it to sound like, this! and he makes movements with his hands and were like, What the @#%$ does that mean?! [Laughs] Puffs whole thing is to make the records sound big. He wants all the records to sound real, real big. So, hell go back and forth, back and forth with you likeYo, we should just change this one little part. Just bring up the strings right there or play one little string part here or one little guitar part. Like, hes real on some detail @#%$. Hes on the details real hard.

Hes doing a lot of the final mixing and stuff too, right?
LV: Yeah, its all a collaborative effort. He definitely knows what hes doing, we add to that. He adds to us and the final product is the Reasonable Blueprint. Thats kind of how it comes in. Its a good marriage, with the knowledge he got and what we bring to the table to make the records huge.

Six joints is crazy placement. You guys must be excited.
Sean C: Yeah, definitely. Im still digesting that. I just hit L about that this morning about that, like Yo, we got six joints yo!

LV: This is one of the best @#%$ of my life. Like, for real. Im stupid happy.

So LV you also roll with TS as Fat Joes DJ. How does Crack feel about you giving all that fire away to someone else?
LV: Actually, like for real, I knew he was going to be real proud of me. Like he calls me just to be like, Six joints! No one is thinking about that. This @#%$ is crazy.
