Explain Yourself Chicago..... How You Get 15 Out Of 4 And 7?

As a Nigerian growing up, I always felt that I needed to adopt the african american culture, but i grew out of it real fast in high school. I am not bashing anyones culture/ music/ heritage but I believe it is culture. Its a way of living. It is as if it is acceptable. Don't get me wrong i understand the dominant society and what they are doing, however from my personal experience i think its a culture that is glorified. You got dudes in Milwaukee screaming "Squad". :smh: :smh:.

To change a society you must change the future and the future is children

African American culture? Didn't know that existed so that was stupid on your part

Our culture was stripped and taken away when we came off the boats

Only black people in America who have culture have close family ties to Latin America, Caribbean, or Africa

So what's worse Detroit of Chicago?
Chicago is a world class city.  From the culture to the food to the architecture.  Every city has the hood where sh*t goes down.  That violence is not present in 80% of the city.  Don't let the media fool you.  Have you ever been to Chicago?

This.

That violence is definitely isolated; but extrapolated to make it seem like it's the whole city by the media.

It doesn't matter if its FOX News. That's the problem. CBS, NBC, CNN are the same but on the left. This is a black man who is addressing the root of problems in the black community such as high teen unemployment which causes them to look for that illegal dollar and having so much energy to begin with. But continue to ignore it because of the source. Moron.

Moron? OK.  I'm giving you a first hand perspective/account of Chicago because I live here...not in the suburbs, but in the heart of the city.  There's many more factors that contribute to the high death tolls on the south side than high teen unemployment.  How about the shutting down of schools? How about the decreased funding for after school programs that helped curb violence?  There are many other factors that contribute to the root of the problem, those are just a few.  You can go ahead and adopt the media's perspective instead of finding out yourself.  FOX, CBS, CNN are all the same.  I don't watch any of that.  You can and continue to make misguided judgements about a city you've probably never been to.

Never been it's on my list to visit next year, I would assume these acts of violence take place far from tourist centers

The violence that you hear about is not even prevalent in many parts of the city, including residential areas.  The majority of the murders you hear about are in the far south side.  Englewood, Morgan Park, Chatham, etc.

My uncle lives in Chicago, he moved there last year. I asked him about the violence and he told me that most of the shootings occur in like two parts of the city.

He was nowhere near the shootings that took place this past weekend.

Does it matter that I've never been there? You can see the same things happening in urban centers across the country. Those factors are why Chicago is in the position. The poor schools, the lack of adequate healthcare and black unemployment contribute to the shootings whether you want to accept it or not.

Yes it does matter that you've never been here.  The thread is ABOUT CHICAGO DUMBWAD.  I live here and am able to give a first hand experience of what actually happens here.

Also, what do you mean if I accept it?  I already agreed that those factors (there are many more, those are just a few) contribute to the high rate of violence.   However, I found that out by actually being a part of this city, by living and breathing Chicago.  You on the other hand, will gladly slurp up what these news outlets feed you.

Step your debate game up son.  You're not ready.

[COLOR=#red]Nah man...Chi has an Effin Problem word to A$AP. I don't know what's worse the people who sensationalize the violence or the ones who downplay it...both perspectives are a part of the problem.

The whole %80 thing you mentioned is like real estate agent telling you there's a world class 10,000 sq ft mansion for sale, but only thing the basement floods on the regular, but since it's only 2000 sq ft (%20) of the mansion there's nothing to worry about.

If Chicago keeps sweeping this under the rug and blaming everything on the misguided yute-dem and media exploitation then y'all will soon see. There is no ONE answer for this...it's going to take a synergy of an effort that involves the powers that be, grassroots community effort, and exposure. This coming from an native New Yorker who has seen us go from the dam slums to a dam Ikea in Red Hook  (still can't believe that ish).

Oh and yes I've been to Chi...last was 2012 and I had a chance to see both the hood and the remote suburbs.

Murder rate has been steady the past 5-10 years.  We've been living with violence in this city for a long time.  So why is it being sensationalized now?

No one is sweeping it under the rug, as evidenced by the media running with these stories.

I agree there is no one answer, but people are acting like this problem just arose out of nowhere.

Chicago is the birthplace of gangs.  This city will always be rife with gangs.   Violence and gangs go hand in hand.  I can guarantee NYC doesn't have half the gangs we do.

You can't compare NYC to the Chicago. Different cultures.  What worked for NYC will not necessarily work for Chicago.

Man, I was there this weekend and my buddy was joking and asking me about how many people I thought would get shot over the holiday weekend. Get home, and find out yesterday that over 60 people were shot

I guess we were in our own little world downtown and in Lincoln Park.

Ok. Everyone is telling you about your city, but you throw up the you don't live here excuse. Cool. Continue to wallow in the slop of ignorance. Debate game? ***** please. I'm not going back and forth with a numbnut such as yourself.

And Chicago isn't the birthplace of gangs. Y'all love claiming that as if its something be proud of. You're part of the problem. New York is with the Five Points being the most infamous or did you not see Gangs of New York or study Tammany Hall? Chicago was founded in 1837 and New York had at least a century and a half on it.

[COLOR=#red]First off I'm grateful to have a discussion with no shots thrown my dude. But check this...one of the major things worked for NYC was actually a social theory named "Broken Windows". Look it up if you will...it wasn't created for NYC but it was deployed in NYC. Also there was a point where the police acted in a more integrated manner within the community...instead of being punitive all the time they were actually helpful...the police force must win back the hearts and minds of the community. Damn.....we talking gangs as in Gangs Of New York? I was about to throw the whole Cali thing in perspective but forget it now.

It's funny how people claim which city is worse and which city is better. I work with a girl from NY and she thinks SF is the most ghetto city ever. She always talks to other New Yorkers as if it is just a slum. I mean is NYC that much better cause even my impression of NY is way worse then SF when i was there. I have been to Chicago twice and not one time did I feel afraid of where I was. For the most part, I thought it was really safe and it's crazy how at night, there are no bums or anything. Granted I wasn't in the south side but Chicago was fine imo.

New York’s current rate of 2.9 murders per 100,000 people would have placed it fourth last year among the 74 US cities with populations of at least 250,000. Only Plano, Texas (with a 0.4 murder rate), Lincoln, Neb. (1.1), and Henderson, Nev. (1.4), were safer, according to 2012 FBI crime stats.
By contrast, the most murderous US cities were Detroit, with 54 murders per 100,000 people; New Orleans (53); St. Louis (35); Baltimore (34), and Newark (34). Chicago was at 18.5 and LA 7.8. New York City’s rate last year was 5.1.

Yes very stupid of me to try and fit in i would agree.
I know hip hop culture has evolved and has had its ups and downs, i think its fair to say hip hop culture that many young African Americans try to emulate.
You're right african american culture is non existent. Such a tragedy. :smh: :smh:

What about just the general vibe of NYC? Like my coworker gets vibed out on a lot of the weirdos we have here whether it be bums, ghetto kids, etc. She's more or less talking about that and not the homicide rates.

But New York is filled with weirdos. It shouldn't creep her out that much.

Yes, everybody is telling me that my city as a whole is murderous, but I'm countering them and saying that the impression of Chicago is not true.  It only happens in certain areas.

The media is sensationalizing it.  I live here and see everything that's going on, therefore my statements hold more truth than FOX news.  Is it that hard to understand?

You're the one that called me a moron, but in actuality i'm sure the rest of the thread agrees that my points are valid.

Chicago IS the birthplace of modern American Gang Culture that you see today.  Gangster Disciples, Vice Lords, El Rukn, Black Stones, etc...try to refute that.

I am not proud of that.  It just happened to help my statement about gangs and violence go hand in hand.

Can you tell me definitively that NYC has more gangs than Chicago?

Your arguments are null and void and are pretty bad.  I can see why you wouldn't want to go back and forth with me.  You fire shots calling people morons, but what exactly is your argument?  What is your premise?
