Hollywood needs to stop with the whitewashing vol. Exodus: Gods and Kings

How do we know they didn't go to Egypt and try to find people? I mean, were not in those meetings (I'm not at least) so it's unknown the thought process, especially when it's a big name actor that carries a huge following v some unknown. Point blank period, Christian Bale is going to get more bucks than some no name Arab...at some point it's a money thing.

What identifiable harm does not having a black lead have? How many black leads until we're satisfied? We're 17% -20% of the population, I think we get at least 10% of lead roles in Hollywood major releases, I ain't mad at that, aren't as many great black actors active as white actors, ain't ideal but I'm satisfied, especially with black Hollywood cranking out hits as a supplement.

I dig what your saying, I just think it's an outdated argument. Also, black peopme dont want to see black folk shine, we can talk about that also. We complain about Tyler Perry and Kevin Hart being everywhere, but there's two black people getting it, even though ill never watch his movies, Tyler Perry should get a movie every year.

I need identifiable harm it's doing. 2014 is to liberal, the arguments have been the same for to long for me to truly believe Hollywood is setting black folks back. Marlon Wayans just made a sequel to a movie, written, starred in and produced by him, made crazy bread...but, of course, a lot of black folk dislike the Wayans 'they're clowns.'

Honestly, I'm just tired, tired of fake outrage at every turn. There are things that need to be fought (education/prison) but Hollywood has improved to the point I can just enjoi good movies w/o wearing my black fist medallion.

But ah, if that's your cross, go for it. More black actors/directors/producers ain't a bad thing.

I bare all the crosses, I'm black and my cares are with black people. I'm sure majority of the points we will most likely agree on and that would be a great conversation with a bunch of daps and pounds.

There's no denying media is a tool, and what you see reflects back to you. You know how many times I went super saiyan as child? Or thought I was a power ranger? I'm not saying theres some secret "lets not put blacks in films" group. I'm just saying minorities are overlooked because they don't care. I have no problem with TP, he doesn't produce my type of films, but he gives cats jobs. Hart, imo is breaking the mold down with every film, his whole campaign on Think Like a Man 2 being a funny comedy and not a black funny comedy is very commendable and I hope it's viewed as such. But, i respect your views, i disagree, but i respect your views.

All the posts saying I shouldn't see it, don't worry I won't. I didn't see Lone Ranger either. Johnny Depp as Tonto

Its 2014 and people still make excuses like they picked the best actors/actresses, maybe they tried and couldn't find anyone , "I don't go see movies for a history lesson", "Its just a movie".

Michael B. Jordan casts as Johnny Storm people get mad. White actors/actresses casts as non-white characters and its all good, they were chosen because they were better actors.

The movie is called Gods and Kings based in Egypt and they chose all white people to play the lead roles. >D

wont watch

didnt watch the white jesus movie mel gibson made either

dudes say its not a big deal but you'll never see a black man chosen to play george washington etc no matter how good he can act

Ya'll wanna make a big deal out of anything.

Look Cobra, when you can afford to put up the budget for a movie then do the right thing and chose the lesser known actor that fits the role perfectly, whether or not he will help the movie profit, over the guy who will ensure you make money.

You're making this a race thing when it's not. It's a money thing. These studios that put up the money want the biggest return in their investment. Bale will ensure that over some unknown egyptian actor no matter how good he may be.

I swear some of you always want to make everything about race. If it was about race then The Rock wouldn't have gotten cast to play a greek god. That's right, a polynesian, to play a greek god. Do you think maybe it has to do because The Rock = $$ just like Bale = $$.

Minorities have to stop playing the victim card ALL the time.

FTR, I'm a minority.

This is a non issue you're Turing into a racial issue. What if this actors were just the better than other minority actors? No, has to be Hollywood only wanting white actors. Why don't You take it a step further and claim Hollywood only wants Jewish actors in all their movies?

:smh:

Word, y'all got it. If I made it an issue and you see it as a non-issue, that's fine.

But to me it's an issue. Can I look past it and respect the craft, yes. But I still feel I place a valid comment on the film and others.

I understand everything about the money that companies funnel into films, y'all aren't teaching me anything.

The video above shows two non african american males making the exact same claim I made. But for me, "it's not an issue, get over it."

Clowns. You woulda thought I was questioning where my 40 acres is.

Wait, are you?

Look, if you truly understand about movie studios wanting to get the best return on investment, then this thread wouldn't exist.

Or do you want to ignore that, in order to justify your anger?

Wow this is pretty blatant....How could you think otherwise ..."what if they where the best actors " lmaoooooooooooooooo

You can't be ignorant to think that race doesn't play a huge part in Hollywood. Even if they were able to find a full cast of good black actors, they will never make this type of movie with that type of budget. Why? Because it would be considered a "black movie." Black actors ALWAYS have to convince audiences that their movie is not just a "black movie."
Now, I won't even pretend like I care about this movie because I'm not into film like that, but I just hate when people act like race doesn't matter.

Lol, son I'm getting my masters in film and television production, I'll graduate in November.

I know the game, I understand you have to play it. It just sucks that I feel underrepresented.

I'm not boycotting or burning down a studio over a film, but I'm commenting on my feelings.

Like I said, I can fully understand the arguments from my side and the side of others. Not gonna change my feel.

I understand, but you have to keep your feelings in check when there is a logical explanation to what you perceive as a problem. Instead, you choose to make it something it's not.

Dudes will come up with every excuse in the book

It is what it is

all those slave movies gotta be historically accurate tho right? why dont they have any white slaves?

oh and if it takes place in prison I bet you see a bunch of black faces

kings in Egypt? nah lets get a white guy

But there has been know explanation for the characters. We are both only speculating. Neither side has provided concrete evidence over the auditions of this film. Nobody has the casting directors book to see who they called in for an audition, or to see who the director/producers requested.

Gods Of Egypt is another film. Hollywood has a fascination with white washing Egypt. Elizabeth Taylor and Jolie as Cleopatra.
