I have a nice paying job but the hours are crazy and I'm starting to get tired of it.

I'm not one of those 9-5ers who complain about working like the other thread, but I literally work 60-70 hrs a week with no set schedule and I'm easily dispensable.

I was looking into some civil engenering degrees like land surveying and project management.

I'm 28 single with 1 kid car payment no mortgage.

I know they say it's never too late to start over but is that true in the real world?

I'm thinking about quitting before fall semester registration is over.

Any advice?

Thinking about going back myself but I need to figure out what I want to do first. Probably gonna start taking an online class to get my foot in the door and ease my way back in. I wish I didn't stop going. Good luck to you.

Your just 28 years old. People in their late 50's go back to school. No big deal. Just get a part time job.

Yeah I'm going back this spring I'm 27. Didn't even take English 101 yet lol. Was making good money out of HS so I said F it n just work. I'm on a year waiting list to take this 2 year aviation maintenance program. I hear they make good money as a contractor as well as overseas. And probably work my way to get a engineering degree after that.

We all start late in finding what we wanna do In life others just go back to back of school HS then college after then find out they do to wanna work in that field that they went to school for. That's why most Austrians n other countries take a gap year from school n travel to really find what they want to do in like but for us it's a big gap ha!

it's not to late, but it's going to be hard. But, think about this, 4 years for the rest of your life.

Its never too late to do anything ...only suckers think about irrelevant things like age because people love to compare themselves to other people and make up BS time lines.

Civil engineering is not bad , my friend got that degree and he found a good paying job like 1 month after graduating.

Taken from Quora:

Too late for what?

If you slept through your 26th birthday, it's too late for you to experience it. It's too late for you to watch "LOST" in its premiere broadcast. (Though, honestly, you didn't miss much.) It's too late for you to fight in the Vietnam War. It's too late for you to go through puberty or attend nursery school. It's too late for you to learn a second language as proficiently as a native speaker. It's probably too late for you to be breastfed.

It's not too late for you to fall in love.

It's not too late for you to have kids.

It's not too late for you to embark on an exciting career or series of careers.

It's not too late for you to read the complete works of Shakespeare; learn how to program computers; learn to dance; travel around the world; go to therapy; become an accomplished cook; sky dive; develop an appreciation for jazz; write a novel; get an advanced degree; save for your old age; read "In Search of Lost Time"; become a Christian, then an atheist, then a Scientologist; break a few bones; learn how to fix a toilet; develop a six-pack ...

Honestly, I'm 47, and I'll say this to you, whippersnapper: you're an effing kid, so get over yourself. I'm an effing kid, too. I'm almost twice your age, and I'm just getting started! My dad is in his 80s, and he wrote two books last year.

You don't get to use age as an excuse. Get off your ***!

Also, learn about what economists call "sunk costs." If I give someone $100 on Monday, and he spends $50 on candy, he'll probably regret that purchase on Tuesday. In a way, he'll still think of himself as a guy with $100 -- half of which is wasted.

What he really is is a guy with $50, just as he would be if I'd handed him a fifty-dollar bill. A sunk cost from yesterday should not be part of today's equation. What he should be thinking is this: "What should I do with my $50?"

What you are isn't a person who has wasted 27 years. You are a person who has X number of years ahead of you. What are you going to do with them?

Its never to late to start anything, but if you do start it make sure you do it with conviction and see it through or else your just wasting money and time

Man there was this old Nigerian lady in my Finace class waaay back in the day - she was clockin' 60 easy...

...I remember one time we were all in the back of class cheatin on the test and she kept lookin back at us - in my head I'm like, "damn, this old hag finna snitch."

She turn around on some "whut iz de ansah to numbah 17?"

Not that I would of changed my mind based off this thread but you guys definatly make me feel a lot more confident about my decision :D

Went back to college at 28, and I finished at 32.  First couple years of community college was tough because I was also working full-time.  The experience helped me learn to balance work and school.  What was funny was the show "Community" helped me through the tough times at a community college by seeing the humor in everything.  When I transferred to a Cal-State school, I was an expert in time management.  Earning my degree was one of the best experiences of my life.  I made great friends, expanded my network, learned, and commanded more respect in the workplace.  Forgot to mention since graduating, I am now earning 60% more than before I had my degree.  I am now studying for the CPA exam and I know that will also increase my earning potential.

My advice is to keep your head in the books, and it will pay off a lot later.  You are not just doing this for yourself, but also for your kid.

Got my bachelor's in 05 but i still want to go to law school. I'm 30 and if I start I'll probably be 32ish my first year. Either do it or don't, the time is gonna pass anyway and you're not getting younger.

Its not too late OP and I hope you go through it and succeed.

I'm 24 and have only one year of college under my belt (been working full time since 19)

I'm heading back this fall and do not regret my decision to leave school early not one bit. I personally didn't feel I can grow as a person if I spent most of my time just sitting in a classroom most of the week ( stupid reason I guess) but I'm too excited to start school again

Follow your heart and think ahead everybody :pimp:

Remember tell my boy to be quite about us filling out this cheat since there was this 60 year old lady next to us. He look at me with that still look...... Dawg she is the main person cheating in the department. Could never look at that lady the same again.

1. You're going to crush it because you're old

2. You're going to knock it out in 3 years because you're old

3. You're going to be smart about loans because you're old

4. You gonna smang young yambs because you're old

5. You're going to get a job like *snap* that because you have experience... And you're old...

Sounds like you're winning, famb.

i dont think its a big deal... the hard part is getting in a groove of things since you havent been in school for a minute

I went back to school last semester at the age of 25. Doesn't feel weird at all, in fact you oddly get more respect from your peers and profs.
