Do you give bums money when they ask for it?

It's always depends on my mood.

A dollar ain't a big deal, I spend money on frivolous things all the time.

But if I feel like you trying to get over, nah.

One time this lady asked me for money in the mall food court, mind you she had on brand new penny 2 Retros, the joints just dropped, nah.

haahhaa im the same way. my biggest pet peeve in the world is when someone tries to get one over on me. i aint havin that.

but at the end of the day, whats $1 or $5 to me. As long as the bums are straight up, I'll kick down a few bucks. I dont care if they spend it on booze, drugs, or whatever. If that brings them a little joy in their otherwise miserable day, I'm glad I could help.

ill give more if i see that the bum is really working for it. one time i was getting off the freeway offramp and it was absolutely pissing outside. i see a bum with no umbrella or jacket standing there with his sign in the pouring *** rain at 11pm. brother was working for it. i wish i had more than the $20 on me so I could get that guy a jacket.

I do when I feel so inclined. When I don't, I don't. Just have to catch me at the right time. I try not to think about it too much. You can't help everyone but the spirit of giving should be in you always.

Willie tha.can man.

Don't be silly, give your cans to Willie!

One time I was stopped at a light heading to class, and this straight up fat BUM looking dude with long messy hair and like oil/grease on his face came up to my window and just stuck his hand out. No asking or even smiling, dude looked angry and just stuck his hand out.

Not wanting to touch him or anything, I gave the awkward "I don't have anything" motion, and dude starts inspect the inside of my car through the glass then he says I know you have money look at your car and gets straight up mean with me. At this point I'm like who is this guy and flat out tell him no sternly. Then it gets awkward cause the lights still red and I just kinda yelled at him so the greasy bum gets this crazed look in his face and taps my mirror kinda hard but not really and backs away slowly.

At that point I didnt know what to do, I didn't want to be late for class, and I did not want to touch him dude was straight filthy. So I just accepted his outburst and angry tap on my window and drove on. I think I may need to keep pepper spray in the car or something

Most of the time I do. Usually if I'm in a car and stopped at a light, I don't. If I'm walking out of a store and I think you really need it, I give it. Completely subjective. I'm more inclined to tip generously than give beggars money because I see you actually working/trying.

I had a bum ask me for money, I told him I only use credit cards but I could buy him something to eat. Dude had the nerve to tell me should get a credit card machine.

Dude was gonna buy dope or liquor. Glad you didn't have cash on you

That's like this chick who asked me if she could borrow (aka have) some gas money to get her and her family back to Baton Rouge. When I told her i only have a card, she said "That's ok, I would much appreciate if you could put about $40 in the tank please." I just looked at her like

and went to my car. Girl tried to get over just cause she was moderately attractive.

I treat everyone based on my interaction with them

you hanging outside the liquor store=no way

you in a food spot trying to get something to eat=yes

I usually try and exchange a couple words with someone if they ask me for money feel em out a bit

I've had some wonderful experiences dealing with homeless/ less fortunate folks you'd be surprised who you might be talking to and might catch a gem

+ you never know how your being tested your kindness could come back to you 10x over
Word up on your statement that a homeless person can drop a gem on your melon, after all, they're experiencing a life that we hopefully never will. But on your last test did you Seriously imply that a homeless begging for money can be a test to you? Na dun..

Mad homeless people out in San Diego! I normally don't either but this one dude was straight up with his sign saying "I just want some beer" so I got him a six pack from 7-11 and a couple got dogs and he was a happy as could be haha. Wouldn't have normally done it but at least he was straight up and it made me laugh so I figured why the hell not.

Was walking with my boy on Fulton the other day and some lady asked him to buy him a blackberry. No lie, never heard that ish

the word "bum" is unfitting ... i've fell on hardships and most of these people aren't bums dude .. they have mental illness.

i was taught to give them food.. i have gave the less fortunate $8 before , bought nutriments and etc... just because it's the hood.

No.

Edit: I should say mostly never.  There are times when I do give. Honestly it depends on my mood.

I have a story that kind of relates. Was walking down the street with a buddy one day texting someone on my phone. A sketchy character comes up to me and asks me if he can use my phone. I analyze the character quickly and pre judge him because thats what smart human beings do to protect themselves. I think to myself I have a 800 dollar device in my hand. Am I just going to hand this over to him? I decide no im not. So I say to him sorry man I dont feel comfortable doing that. He yells WHAT THE **** BLAH BLAH. I say I dont know who you are, you could simply run off with it and I would be out 800 dollars. And this dude just goes off on me. Screaming and screaming obscenities. I say sorry once more and just keep walking because now im starting to get a little scared as this dude is bigger and keeps getting louder and louder. **** YOU YOU MOTHER ******. And as I walk away i think to myself how I prejudged correctly.

Im curious if any of you have been in a similar situation and if what you think I did was right or wrong. I think I was right but I am curious. He could have made his phone call and said thanks end of story. But the way I looked at it was if this dude takes off, who would I have to blame? I just handed it to him.

Normally I wouldn't but if it's a small enclosed space where I know they can't run away like a starbucks I might give it to them if they come correct

In San Diego I notice some panhandlers who buys military fatigues and pretend to be veterans ..

Dnt really cash but if I do have it on me I'll usually try to help.

This lady sits at this Walgreens/Arby's by my house with a big *** winter cost on every day and asks me for food/money..... My mom seen her get dropped off before so i don't even give here anything .

nope. some of them set it up as a scheme to rob you and so they know where youre holding the cash. ive also seen bums try to return food for cash.

on the brighter side of humanity, there was a bum that would clean the outside of the dunkin donuts I worked at and we would hook him up with as much food as he wanted.

i dont mind giving if I think its worth it
