Staten Island man dies after NYPD cop puts him in chokehold

This man, sad. I'm not even addressing once they started to restrain him, just the conversation. You make these guys feel any bit of power being pulled away and they feel they have to prove something.

So let me get this straight if you Know you did nothing illegal, you are okay with being placed in handcuffs being pushed around and forced to go to the station for no reason at all? this is a policy that is suitable? this is a common practice amongst cops (Mostly in minority neighborhoods) and none of ya'll have a problem with this. :smh:

Some people get fed up with the po po, especially nypd and their harassment.
Ya'll wanna cooperate and let these dudes put broken broom sticks in your butt, then go ahead.

We not animals, we human

so you have to give up your rights and pride as a man every time the police say so?

how about they be held to a higher standard not if they tell you to you gotta lay down and do whatever they say and then hope the same justice system that allows these abuses in the first place will some how vindicate you later on

We all have a problem with this, but what's the possible positive outcome? what history has shown that to be a great idea? the NYPD is gonna somehow in that moment become understanding and reasonable, then say "you're right sir, we'll leave you alone".

Your best bet is to be calm, let emotions settle , be on the same footing then try to reason.

I think what fraij is trying to say is this is a recurring theme, why would you put yourself in that situation. Cops have gun that's enough right there for me to cooperate and deal with it in court later. I mean it's like sticking a metal fork in a socket and wondering why you got shocked.

It is ridiculously disheartening that people are okay with the idea that we should live in fear and follow the orders of ****** employees who's sole purpose is to protect us and keep the law.

All cops have guns.... SO ****** what, all cops have rules that clearly ban them from using those guns because i'm running my mouth or pleading my case. The bottom line is that regardless if someone is resisting arrest they aren't allowed to put you in a chokehold let alone an entire group of them jumping on you, especially when you haven't threatened a cop. I'm so ****** sick of this concept of people just being okay with misjustice.

I hear ya'll with the logic to not resist arrest, it's a lose-lose situation where more often than not you're gonna have to submit one way or the other...

BUT

We're not excusing the cops in this instant right?? We're not blaming Mr. Garner entirely for his own death right??

If i'm going to get arrested and put in a squad car anyway i'm gonna make sure i let them know CLEARLY that they are wrong and i'm not going to simply cooperate and shut up and take it because these ******* have badges. The fact remains that i'm not attacking them, i'm not threatening them i am simply resisting being harassed, i think everyone has a right to do that.

Regardless of how much they dislike it, i shouldn't have to fear being hit, choked, or shot because i offended one of these *******.

For the Last time HE HAS NO BLAME IN HIS OWN DEATH, unless somewhere in the NYPD guidelines it reads kill a man if he resist arrest.

^^ Don't even waste your time arguing with these clowns. They don't live in the world that we live in. Keep in mind that simply being a black male = resisting to the majority of these pigs. Then they turn around & wonder why our communities won't cooperate with them.

You're absolutely correct it's a lose-lose and I'm not excusing the cops, but from the few times in my life that I've dealt with some, I've found that the quickest way to get rid of them was just to do whatever they say.

But out of curiosity, but why was there even a whole task force if all he was doing was selling loosies?

I'm speaking from a stance of my own experiences as a black man, and having parents that were police also. Though I was in the bx, i was from jamaican police stock, so I felt why treat me like this and let it be heard. The mouthing off never works, only always escalates the situation. Once calmer heads prevail it's easier to have a one on one, not saying bend over. Have you guys ever even had run ins with police? Yes you get tired of it, yes it's abuse of power and unfair, but if you really just want to go home, there's a sensible route.

I also don't think ya'll realize that Alot of the ******* cops out there really get a satisfaction from someone "listening" to them and having this fake sense of authority. I live in a hood where there are several young gang members running around all day, the cops will literally bypass a group of them that they Know is up to no good and go mess with some guys in their mid 40's who are having discussions.

You know why they do that? because those young gang members don't have **** to lose and not have not a ounce of respect for any of them cops, so instead they go mess with the innocent guys who will listen to them in a calm fashion.

If i'm gonna be harassed either way i'm gonna make it my mission to demoralize the **** outta that officer and let him know that his false sense of authority means NOTHING and once he takes off that badge he's still gonna be a peasant with no power. Call it petty but i am not gonna allow them the pleasure of enjoying their harassment.

@ yall who are advocating antagonizing cops.

Have fun getting your *** whooped and/or shot.

I'm a black man in America. I ain't got time for that mess.

Cops are notoriously trigger happy when it comes to us.

Just keep your mouth shut, get cuffed and then see them in court.

Yea it sucks but so does getting killed.

R.I.P. to the guy. The worst deaths are senseless ones.

Dudes just fine dealing with the cops like the klan?

"just keep ya head down do what they say and dont look any white women in the eyes"

we have rights too enough is enough we shouldn't be prisoners in or own communities

they should have to be professionals I shouldn't have to kiss *** for them to do their ******* jobs the right way

New York police are awful. When I went to Governor's Ball last year, we were waiting in line for the bus to go from the festival back to the Harlem stop and for no reason at all these cops starting trying to tell everyone we weren't allowed to wait in line for the bus. This couple started walking away, and for no reason this female cop straight hip checked the girl, who was peacefully walking away. They were violently screaming at everyone, when we were just trying to catch a bus :smh:

******* murder on video.

I tried not to watch but it's everywhere. Thing is I've seen dudes in real life weighing a whole lot less get taken down just as hard or harder. Not to mention what they do to dudes on COPS.

You know these killers, these murderers, are gonna get off on some justified force bull **** :smh:

When Malcolm X got arrested in the 40s he had a gun on him.

He told the cop he had a gun, raised his hands and let the officer take the gun from him.

He said that decision saved his life and the cops treated him, a black man in the 1940s, with respect because of it.

So miss me with that "Malcolm X is rolling over in his grave" ********.

He had actually committed a crime and had more to lose than an innocent man yet he fully cooperated.

If you're innocent you have no reason to not cooperate.

There's more than one way to fight injustice and being dead isn't a particularly good one.

This is disgusting, I hope every one of those damn cops lose their jobs and go to prison. But that won't happen :smh:
