4 games left and the Chiefs still dont have a WR touchdown
i dont even know what to say..

its just beyond me.

I still can't understand it.

I'm sitting here looking at Chiefs WR stats and it's really a bunch of goose eggs in the TD column.

How?

I don't know if I should be impressed by the fact that Smith has 15 TD's all to non receivers or not

How much have Kaep and Cam regressed this year?

I know that the o-line has issues protecting him (no one has been sacked more), and the Niners have the 4th highest drop percentage in the NFL, but Kaep seems to be trying to rely on his athleticism to get things done. Stops going through his progressions for quarters at a time. He's never been the smartest guy (clock + timeout management), but it's really starting to show. DBs don't even have to play their receivers anymore; they just watch his eyes.

dland24 dland24 kind of touched on it in his Alex Smith post, but it's kind of funny to me... we go from a QB who puts up respectable stats, has a high football IQ, but is afraid to throw the ball more than 10 yards... to a QB who has all the athleticism in the world, throws the ball harder than damn near anyone I've ever seen, isn't afraid to take shots, but makes bad decisions all the time.

Like, if you combined Alex Smith and Colin Kaepernick, you have Aaron Rodgers. But separated... they're just who they are.

Somewhere on Twitter someone said "I wonder if Alex smith goes through his reads thinking "I can't make that throw, I can't make that throw" until he eventually checks it down"

I vividly remember taking on multiple posters by saying just that, but a few years ago. The problem is, he never progressed. Eventually, only relying on athleticism and a rocket arm will catch up to. I pointed to Vick and a few others. You NEED to develop the mental side of the game or this is what happens when things around you breakdown or defenses devise a gameplan to limit that athleticism.

Alex Smith isn't a guy to rely on in getting you to the Super Bowl, but for this particular Niners team, I think they'd be doing a little better for the mistakes that wouldn't be made that are with Kaep.

You are not the only one with this opinion, but I still dont understand it.  Which games this year that the Niners lost can you point to and confidently say that we would have won if we had Alex instead of Kap?  Serious question.

I would have to think about this, but on the flipside, we definitely lose against the Saints with Alex instead of winning with Kap....and I am sure if I thought about it in more depth, I could pick another couple games that were wins that would have been losses with Alex instead of Kap.

I mean...I'd have to go back and do a lot of watching, but the general thought is that the Niners don't bog themselves down by trying to make Alex somthing he isn't (a proficient passer) and stay more dedicated to the run and at times where Kaep throws interceptions or fumbles, Alex doesn't and they punt/take 3 as opposed to great field position for the opponent or no points.

Really, it's impossible to answer because you can't choose to have Alex only in the spots that Kaep failed...You have to have Alex and what he does or doesn't do for the entire game and I don't know exactly how much that changes the course of their season or individual games, series', etc.

I'm so lost with Kaep. Kid has a lot of talent. O line is hurt but I'm starting to think the kid is a moron. I'm seeing a lot of bad choices. He looks like he can't read coverage. I also don't get why they stopped drawing up running plays for him. That helped that offense and passing game tremendously.

I've never been a fan of Cam.

and then you instantly tried to discredit him by saying "smith strived in the same offense". it wasn't the same offense, not even close. kap is a damn good quarterback, no matter what system you want to put him in.

would it kill you to credit any of the 49ers, or would you just spontaneously combust if you did?

Yep. Excluding luck I'd say he's the best passer of the bunch too. Wilson is great but even though he's playing well in spite of it he's still not an ideal height. RGIII is made of glass. Kap is big, tall, a great runner, smart, an awesome passer and has already played in a Superbowl. Plus he has arguably the most talented group of teammates in the league.

Sky's the limit for him.

I'm still taking Kaep over Bob, Russ and Luck if I didn't see the game today.

This isn't the same 49ers team or o-line that Alex had, either. They're 19th in run blocking and 30th in pass protection. Gore and Hyde are only averaging 3.8 YPC.

Offense as a whole is a ******* cluster. Kaep def deserves his lion's share of the blame tho.

I definitely don't remember saying I would take Kaep over Luck. That doesn't sound right. I would still take him over Bob and probably over Russell. Russell is smarter but I like Kaep's arm and legs better.

If that makes you feel better, sure. I just don't buy into everyone. I probably only like 10-12 QBs. I don't think there are that many good QBs in this league.
Is Eli one?

Of course I like Eli. Guy is a warrior. Leads the league in consecutive games played with 160+. Not sure how that stat gets overlooked all the time. He's had a good year outside of that SF game. He's 16th all time in passing TDs. Giants don't have an O line or a running game. Also have a new OC. Eli isn't a top 10 QB but I'm taking him over Flacco, Dalton, Cam, Russell, Tanne and plenty others.
