QB THREAD - 2x quarterbacky award winner: Lamar Jackson

Lets recap.

Ravens had better:
-Defense as a whole (by a lot)
-Running game (by a good amount too)
-Coaching (by a good amount)

Cowboys had better:
-Wide Receivers (by a good amount)

Cowboys and Ravens were similar in:
-Offensive line

But somehow, this doesn't mean that the Ravens have always had vastly superior teams.  Comical.

Did I say that the Ravens haven't been the better team?

Please point out where.

This discussion is about QBs, which one we prefer.

It's devolved into a discussion about stats.

So since stats are SO heavily weighed in this discussion, QB aerial weaponry HAS to have greater weight than defense, coaching, running game, etc...

Sigh.

In another example of defense's importance, targets are primarily a product of how much importance the opposing defense has placed on your receiver. For the most part, the Packers tried to let anybody but Dez beat them, which is why you saw Beasley, T.Williams and Witten all have good games.

The sign of a good QB is being able to acknowledge how the defense is playing you and adjust, because you don't have to force -- the defense can't prevent a leak from springing somewhere on every play. It's the effect of 22 players all doing different things.

Flacco just threw balls up carelessly in the second half against New England, even in times when they weren't on a desperation drive. Being responsible on nearly every play is totally negated when he decides to abandon all sense of tact and chuck it up with a safety playing over the top. I like him, but his arrogance in the playoffs will help him 19 times and hurt him once, and because Rahim Moore (I think it was Moore) let Jacoby Jones unfathomably get behind him in a prevent set, that "once" didn't happen where it typically would.

Flacco took advantage of that and that's doing his job, but it was a once-in-a-lifetime thing that he was able to connect with Jones there and it really should have never happened, meaning they really should have never won the Super Bowl. But things happen.

Dude Dez was open multiple times that game. It wasn't like he was facing bracket coverage he was facing against the Lions, it wasn't nearly as stiff.

For him to only be targeted FOUR TIMES when he's been targeted with more confidence against stiffer secondaries is LAUGHABLE.

:smh:

Romo has made mistakes because he's been asked to be better than what he is.

He's a very good quarterback bur he's been asked to be all time great one for his team to have success in the past.

This year he had a good running game and a mediocre defense and he flourished. Flacco is my guy and I like him more bur Romo is better.

How about the fact that Romo's teams have been in the top half of the NFL in defense 3 times in his 10 year career, while Flacco's Ravens have been in the top half of the NFL in defense all but one year of his career, and often times in the top 10 or 5?

Does that not matter at all?

They're QBs.... Every little difference on their teams doesn't make one better than the other.

I do think Romo is better than Flacco though, based on his track record.

It's weird, I think Romo is better but I think I'd rather have Joe.

I don't think either answer is that laughable or shocking but apparently others on here do

I don't think picking Romo is at all laughable.

He is a good QB that shows flashes of greatness.

I think some of his decision making at times is laughable.

We've been saying Romo was in the top tier all season long. If he's only as good as Flacco then he is not in the top tier on a count of Joe only being an above average QB. In a team game I don't like using playoff wins to compare level of talent for an individual. Comparing legacies I am ok with though. Romo beats Flacco with numbers and the eye test on this one in regards to who is more talented.

I'm genuinely curious..

How can a player be literally better in every statistical category but not be the better player??

Is it all only about playoff success?? When did regular seasons come to mean so little??

Not trying to change anyones mind on the subject, I've come to learn romo is a subject people are just set in their ways about, like Peyton...I'm truly genuinely curious.

Speaking of Black QB's

Deadspin has a nice compilation of every Black to play in the NFL

http://deadspin.com/the-big-book-of-black-quarterbacks-1517763742

Some entries are more extensive than others but cool read nonetheless.

Good looks on this Pabs.

I start reading this yesterday.

I'm reading part 2 now and got to the section with Randall Cunningham and they showed this clip.

No matter what, great QB matchup in SB. :pimp:

I expect Wilson v Brady.

I hope for Rodgers v Brady. The best QB matchup.......maybe ever.

Either way, any of these four are worthy QB Super Bowl winners.

Russell Wilson's 1st completion came with 3:58 left in the 2nd quarter.

His second completion went for -2 yards.

2/9, 12 yards, 3 INT.

Can't wait to see his running game and defense carry him in the second half.
