QB THREAD - 2x quarterbacky award winner: Lamar Jackson

I kinda hate when people bring up inflated passing numbers and how easy it is to pass nowadays.

If it was that damn easy everyone would do it.

Let it be known, I saw this. Don't think you slipped it past.

Andy Dalton threw for 4,300 last year.
Eli Manning has a 5,000.
Matt Stafford has a 5K
Matt Ryan has a 4700 and a 4500 back to back.
Rookie Andrew Luck went 4400
Josh ******* Freeman went 4K 2 years ago.
Tony Romo went 4900
Rookie Cam went 4K

4,000 yards was a rare thing for the first 60 years of the NFL, and in the last 5 alone, you have **** like that. I didn't even mention the garbage that is Carson Palmer throwing for over 4K three straight years. And there's going to be like 12-13 QB's to do it this year as well. Including yet another member of the 5K passing club. Something that happened once, in the first 65 years of NFL History, will have been done like 10 times the last 5 years.

So, you were saying..........?

All those quarterbacks where some of the best in the league when did that except Andy Dalton.

And since it's so easy and getting easier why isn't it happening now?

Huh?

Are you drunk? Or turning into Mike with an inability to read or something? 12-13 4K passers this year, that's like an entire decade in other eras.

Josh Freeman was one of the best back in the day huh? :smh:

What? Through 12 games we have 13 dudes over 3000 yards. There's a possibility we'll have 10+ QBs with 4k at the end of the year, and 2-3 at 5k.

There were 14 4K seasons in the 1980's, like 5 of them are Marino, 2-3 are Fouts. Entire decade, 14.

We could have 12, this year.

22 in 90's.

35 the last 4 years. Another dozen on the way. On pace for close to 90 for the decade.

Way to be on top of the trends SP.

In 1987 NFL teams averaged 21.7 points a game

This year NFL teams are averaging 23 points a game.

Overall yards only only up 20-30 yards per game from 20 years ago.

Are passing numbers up? Yes.

But this notion that offense stats are totally out of whack from 20 years ago is not totally based in fact.

Its easier to accumulate passing yards today but that's it.

It always rubs me the wrong way when dmxfury dmxfury says you can't play defense in today's game like teams are scoring twice the amount of points or what not.

So, you just saw posts pointing out that 4K yard passers in the 80's and 90's, combined barely equal these past 4 years, and you go back to the strike year in 1987 to count points per game, and think that's equally indicative? Are you ******* serious?

YARDS in 1987, or any year, can be the same, because there were more runners back then getting a lot of yards.

In the QB thread, where we discuss PASSING yards, the game has changed, significantly, and you need to get that thru your thick *** skull.

Are you upset about the stats or something, or what is your issue here?

Yeah man you sound upset. I'm not even trying to debate, its easier to accumulate passing yards that's the second time I've said it.

He's basically just trying to prop Stafford up.

That's where this argument is gonna lead too.

Actually Stafford's stats prove having nice stats doesn't mean you are a good quarterback or lead to wins.

So yes today's quarterbacks have it easier in accumulating passing yards but it comes to down to the get down so what?

Thought this was kinda interesting (the averages of these years):
1977 -- 1986 passing yards, 141 per game, 14 TD, 20 INT, 57.8 rating, 51.3% completion
1987 -- 3058 passing yards, 203 per game, 21 TD, 19 INT, 72.6 rating, 54.8% completion
1997 -- 3229 passing yards, 202 per game, 20 TD, 16 INT, 75 rating, 56.2% completion
2007 -- 3428 passing yards, 214 per game, 22 TD, 17 INT, 81 rating, 61.2% completion
2013 -- 3770 passing yards, 235 per game, 25 TD, 15 INT, 84.1 rating, 61.4% completion

Look at the jump from '77 to '87. :x

The average QB threw 20 picks back in the 70s. Eli woulda fit right in.

We gonna have 4000 be the average here in a couple years?

If it was that damn easy everyone would do it.

?

I mean.....

Mediocre quarterbacks had random nice seasons 20 years ago.

The point I'm trying to make is a great quarterback is going to be great no matter what era.

Aaron Rodgers is the best of the best in his era. When every other quarterback is putting up "inflated" stats his are still better and he wins.

Do you think inflated numbers only mean the elite of the elite or something?

And even still, you wouldn't have a point.

1980's, elite QB would throw for 4,020 yards.
Now? 5,200.

2nd rated QB's would throw for 3,900.
Now? 4,900.

All the way on down the line.

#1 QB's now, vs then, inflated.
#32 QB's now, vs then, inflated.

You have no point, you're just searching for stuff right now. You thought you had a point, you were wrong, it's ok.

For the third time, passing yards are up. That point has been conceded.

But does that mean a mediocre quarterback has better chance of winning or really impacting a game now more than 20-30 years ago?

No.

Irrational anger is a symptom of early on Alzheimer's, you might want to get that checked out.

Got'cha, you're changing and adjusting your point since your first one was shot to ****. Understood. We get it.
