QB THREAD - 2x quarterbacky award winner: Lamar Jackson

Favre w/ that 3.3%.

Matt Stafford's career int% is lower than Troy Aikman and Dan Marino so don't trot all time greats out to prop up Luck's.

Also I think it BS to compare career int% to guys that have started twice the number of games.

And finally look at Luck's percentage when he has a higher YPA and attempts her game.

The one year Andrew Luck threw more passes than Matt Stafford his int% was higher.

Andrew Luck's 2013 statisically was Alex Smith in every way. Which helped his int%.

When Andrew Luck has thrown a high volume and deep his int% has risen.

Personally, the eye test tells me Andrew has trouble against good competition. I'd be interested to see what his record is against teams that finish above .500

Maybe it's good, idk. I do know the Pats take his soul every single time to the tune of about 50 to 10

Montana, Young, Elway, Favre, Kelly, Marino, Ben, Eli, Aikman

All turn it over more than Luck.

"Winning football"

Remember passing stats are inflated now.
Lower INT% than Brees, Peyton, Ben, Romo, Rivers, Stafford, Cam, etc.

If you take seasons in which Andrew was in the top 10 in the NFL in pass attempt his percentage is higher than everyone on that list except Cam from the modern Era

Matt Stafford - 363/602, 4257 yards, 22 TDs, 12 INT
Andrew Luck - 380/616, 4761 yards, 40 TDs, 16 INT

18 more touchdowns and 4 more interceptions on only 14 more pass attempts.

You're right tho, Matt Stafford's 2.0 interception percentage was lower than Luck's 2.6.

Now which season would I rather have... hmmmmmmmm....

INT's after 50 career starts

Peyton, 62
Aikman, 59
Marino, 57
Ben, 50
Montana, 37
Brees, 42
Romo, 53
Elway, 56

Luck, with 48, and he's thrown way more passes than any of these guys, at 1,899.

Luck = fewer turnovers than any of the elites outside of Rodgers and Brady.

You're havin a rough day today bro. Have a rep, cuz I'm a nice guy like that.

This is very possible, and quite feasible. A QB in his first 3 years struggles against top tier teams (and presumably defenses)

Luck struggles vs Buffalo and Jets defenses, and everyone is rioting he turns it over too often.

I'm fairly certain that Buffalo and the Jets are going to turn a lot of QB's over this year.

You forgot to add in Stafford's 2 TD's rushing, and 93 yards

Oh, but Luck had 3 TD's, and 273 yards

Well, this is awkward......

This is why I call yall the Brigade.

Who isn't taking Luck over Stafford?

That isn't the argument or even the topic at hand.

The topic is interception Percentage within the context of other "elite" quarterbacks all time and in the modern era.

The Jets and the Bills? Lol. One of those teams won't even make the playoffs. The Bills D let up 40 on Sunday at home

Luck is officially a veteran. If teams like the Bills and the Jets are his kryptonite, dude is never winning **** .

This especially the bolded part

99% of Luxks interceptions come from being pressured , not being able to step up in the pocket, having 2 guys hanging off him, etc.

They aren't poor throws, side arms, clean pockets.

Luck has doesn't have the luxury to have a running game, or throw a ball into s pocket of defender and have the WR go up and get it. Or a defense that's gonna have his back if an offense stalls.

I HATE the colts. HATE them. They had manning for 163822 years. Have ONE bad season and are gifted the next generational QB.

But to blame luck is wild as hell. This dude is dragging his team thru an NFL season with little to know help.

His defense / o-line are crap.

You know how simple it is to beat the colts? Keep the ball away from Luck cause no one else scared you.
I think you can point to him still having flaws while not blaming him for most of their defeats.

Though his performance against the Jets does deserve blame because he played that bad, but that's not the rule.

You know the interceptions per game and interception pct has dropped significantly since Montana, Elway and Marinos first few years, right?

The league average was about 1.4 interceptions per game and 4.5interception pct back then.

Last season the league average was interceptions per game was 0.9 and 2.5 interception pct.

I believe Andrew Lucks career numbers are right on that.

That's fine but all the other elite quarterbacks and most good quarterbacks of this era have better interception numbers.

Wait the Bills are elite?

I'm pretty sure Tom Brady almost threw for 500 yards vs them?

But yet Luck struggled vs them but he's only a few spots from Brady?

Shows how far ahead Tom is

Or maybe a one game sample isn't enough?

Didn't you have a good simple synopsis last week? Repost that

Orrrrr a team can keep hitting him and increase their chances of him turning the ball over, which he tends to do. He's inconsistent so far in his career. He can be great and overrated.

Is there a QB this doesn't apply to? Pressure and hits almost always lead to turnovers

Sure. There's always different ways to skin a cat. Hell is seems the most effective way to beat the Colts is to not be the Texans, Titans or Jaguars.

That's what you pulled outta that?

He asked a question, moreso, listed an observation that he hadn't even confirmed, that Luck struggles against elite competition. I said yes, it is quite possible a guy in his 3rd year would have struggled vs elite teams. Very possible.

I then mention that he struggled against the Bills, and Jets to start the year, and everyone is full ESPN quoting non contextual stats and freaking out all over the internet.

Then I pointed out, I expect the Bills and Jets to turn over quite a few QB's this year.

Somehow, you took that to mean that the Bills are elite?

Idk why it matters if he is in year 3 or year 10. He's called a top 3 QB

By whom?

Aaron, Brady, Peyton are all still in business, aren't they?

Top 5 I think people have gone with, but I don't know if anyone has pushed him into 3.

But if anyone has "projected him to be", like we all did with Peyton, why is it a crime? Peyton threw 28 INT's his rookie year, but we all saw what was coming. Why is this different?

Luck is already doin 4,800 yards, 40 TD's type seasons, and he will get better, just like Aaron got better, Brady, Peyton, Ben, Romo, Brees, etc all got better as they reached years 4-5-6-7. So why is it a bad thing to project where he's headed?
