QB THREAD - 2x quarterbacky award winner: Lamar Jackson

how many bad games does kirk cousins get before they go to RG3? or will skins never put RG3 because of his contract?
after cousins next bad game RG3 should demand to be put in.

RG3 isn't playing. They can't risk an injury to him

Aaron Rodgers set to pass Johnny Unitas as fastest QB to 30,000 yards

http://www.yardbarker.com/nfl/artic..._quarterback_to_30000_yards/s1_13132_19714933

Since taking over for Brett Favre as the Packers quarterback in 2008, he's compiled 180 more touchdowns (239) than interceptions (59). He's also led the Packers to a .694 winning percentage while totaling a ridiculous 106.5 quarterback rating.....

Aaron Rodgers (29,814 yards in 3,628 attempts) can pass Johnny Unitas (3,695 att) as fastest ever to 30,000 yards.....In comparing quarterbacks of this era, it took Tom Brady nearly 4,200 pass attempts to reach this plateau. With the Indianapolis Colts, Peyton Manning had to toss the rock 3,900 times to reach 30,000 yards passing.

Tannehill must player better.........despite Albert out, poor guard play, not enough Parker, lack of run game, and terrible defense.

The article really says that.

They run well......4.4 ypc, but can't continue cuz always behind early due to poor early defense.

Almost 4-1 pass/run splits when you include sacks and Ryan scrambles.

And his turnovers have all come the last 7 quarters, when trailing big, throwing every play to try and catch up.

But yeah, despite ALL that, Ryan has to overcome.

I think you missed the point of the article

At a certain point, it cant be all about excuses.

If Tannehill is some top 12 quarterback, he has to be able to raise the level of his teammates not succumb it or be a problem himself.

However bad the defense has been, the Dolphins offense have been worse.

The Dolphins have had 24 real possessions in the last 2 games

11 punts ( 7 3 and outs)
5 interceptions that have led to 13 points
4 Turnover on downs
4 Touchdowns, 3 of which have been in garbage time

The defense has been poor, actually more of a disappointment but the offense has to at least move the ball.

They haven't constantly even got into the opponents territory in non garbage time since the 1st half of the Jaguars game.

Agreed. Ryan has to elevate his play to overcome Joe Philbin, no run game to balance offense, 60% of the line being trash, Greg Jennings dropping everything, the 14th pick in the draft barely touching the field, and even Jarvis Landry with 2 huge drops already. (One causing an INT).

All that, playing from behind.

These aren't excuses, they're facts. He needs to play better, dealing with all that bull ****. In his 4th year. Understood.

Bro almost every team can say their offensive line is trash, when the quarterback is holding the ball, hes going to get hit.

Part of the reason why the Dolphins are down is because the offense is going 3 and out or punting. The past 2 games the Dolphins have had 14 first half possessions, they have punted on 10 on them, threw 3 interceptions and scored one touchdown.

You say its hard to play offense when you're down....don't you think its hard to play offense when your offense is constantly punting or turning over the ball?

The Dolphins defense has been poor but the offense has been worse. The Dolphins offense is only scoring on 22 pct of their drives, which is 31st in the NFL, the Dolphins defense is giving up a score on 35 pct of their drives, which is 20th in the NFL. The league average is 35 pct.

You want to talk about dropped passes?

How about we talk about errand pass throws, In the 3 games I've watched Ryan Tannehill has thrown at least 5-10 errand passes with no pressure .

I'm big on wear/tear. 2 SB runs is 6-7 extra hard fought games, can take extra toll.

Take that, add loss of DC, add Kam out 2 games, add Lynch banged up, add new role Jimmy, add Cary Williams......... little outta sorts. That's all.

They were 6-4 last year, then hit the switch. They know how to pace themselves.

While as you know I'm very fond of your wear & tear theory for basketball I really don't think it applies here.

I just don't think they're as deep as they used to be. Factor in those injuries & replacements that are not as good as the ones who left. They're coming back to the field.

There's a couple topics we should just put on the back burner for a while...

The fact that Unitas is even in that conversation is absolutely insane
I don't know if I agree with this... YPA is still predominantly an old-timers stat:

They're not saying AR is beating JU to 30k yards in games played... Its in the least attempts.  Seen above theres only 7 active (Schaub shouldn't even count) in the top 25 for YPA.

Those old timers just didn't throw the ball nearly as much so it would have taken longer in terms of games to get it done.

I guess I misread it, as I did think it was games played. Still very impressive.

Yea I figured you guys were taking it as in shortest time vs least attempts.

Took him 17 years to barely get over 40,000 yards.

AR will get there by year 10.

Back in the day they didn't pass much but when they did it counted :pimp:

None of this throw in place of a running game stuff

Really proud of you watching 3 games. Congrats to you for that.

I've seen every snap, for the past 18+ years, the majority of those multiple times.

Let it go. You telling me the offense is more to blame than the defense is ******* stupid.

The Def has faced Cousins, Bortles, Tyrod, and Fitzpatrick.

O faced LEGIT NY and Buff defenses.

Ryan and the O primarily young, developing core. Pounce, RT, Landry, Parker (not being used), Miller, etc. All still learning.

Def is vet laden, Suh, Jones, Grimes, Misi, Wake etc.

Stop man. You sound more ridiculous than usual on this one. I know you mean well, but your % stats don't mean anything on this. This was supposed to be a #1-2 type defense. Not a 1 sack, couple turnovers in a full month def.

It's not like Tannehill is free of blame for his play, but you do have to acknowledge the division he plays in and the line he plays with.  If we think he's an average type of QB right now, those are exactly the type of players most influenced by those factors—i.e. the Andy Dalton, Joe Flacco, Eli Manning level of players at the higher end of average.

So he's clearly not ready to excel despite his line, running game, and tough division but you have to expect he'd be significantly better if those factors improve.

Exactly.

Ryan can certainly improve, and will, but in the laundry list of issues we have, he's way at the bottom of concerns.

Fix some of the other stuff, then we can demand/expect more from him.

We'll see if the new coach/bye week helps address a couple issues at least.

18 years. every snap..Good for you.

I'm sure the Dolphins are very appreciative of your devoted fandom.

But what does that have to do with Ryan Tannehill?

I'm sure there's other mediocre quarterbacks you have an opnion on like the guy you just referenced...Kirk Cousins.

Have you watched every snap he's taken in the NFL?

Probably not....but you...probably like most fans have seen enough of his games and said to yourself..."Yeah this guy isn't very good"

And that's what most rational fans are doing with Tannehill now.

What you talking about being veteran laden? The average NFL career is 3 years. After 3 years you're some type of veteran. The Dolphins offense has 7 starters who are veterans, so it's not like the offense is playing all rookies or something.

Yes the Dolphins defense has been disappointing but I don't know what fool expected them to be a top 1-2 defense after being average last season just because they added Suh.

And you're missing the point...so I'll say it again as bad as defense has been the offense and Tannehill has been worse. They are ranked in the bottom 5 of most offensive categories with the likes of the Texans, Lions and 49ers. Teams with bad quarterback play.

Tannehill is ranked last in first quarter QBR....I don't know how the defense is responsible for him being so poor in the 1st quarter.

If we can use the term "garbage time touchdowns" can we use the term "garbage time interceptions"?

Garbage time interceptions have already been covered by cp.
