Official 2015 New York Giants Thread VOL: Odell Beckham > *

I'm still in shock. Apple was projected 20-30. We take him at 10 and don't need a CB. Reese continues to show he can't draft for ****. Can't for him to be fired.

Fans can be as incensed as they want. Bottom line is there is no guarantee for any one players. Let's see what this guy becomes. There are players that rise and fall on draft day. Some pan out. Others don't. Let's see what we have first before going crazy about the pick.

Our 2nd pick is good. That kid is a stud. We have bigger needs than WR and you can get quality WRs in the 3rd and 4th but this kid was too good to pass up on. So I get it.

I'm still crushed we didn't take Tunsil. That pick makes so much sense for us. Does so much for our offense. ****.

WR is a need. We lost(really gave away) Ruben and replaced him with a guy hopefully that is better. Ruben has all the physical talent to play WR but didnt put it together mentally. Shepards strength is speed, hands and most importantly route running. A lot of good WRs around the league have gone in the 2nd round in the past

first 3 picks if healthy will be on the field a lot. getting WR and FS likely means giants won't be signing vets.

Anthony Davis wants back in NFL and out of SF. Giants have to make that move to complete our roster.

giants should have taken OL or de in round 5. Can't carry all these RBs into the season

Y'all think the Giants are smart enough to go get Antrel? He's gotta be cheap. I know a lot of us agreed our team missed he's leadership. We need someone to work with our players and keep them in check.

Just heard Reese on the radio. What a prick. I think he's been attacked so much the last year that he's a ***** now. Refused to talk about Tunsil. Was asked about Antrel and he said our staff will look into it and evaluate it. Didn't really sound like they would.

Giants ain't taking dudes with character concerns and with what happened on draft day with Tunsil, I'm not surprised they passed. Would've liked to have gotten Tunsil so both tackle positions are set for the rest of Eli's career but it is what it is.

He has elite change of direction, grabs everything, smart player and he'll be real good in the slot for a long time, in other words I'm sick you guys got him.

Giants did a great job addressing holes this offseason. except with the oline. they allowed good LTs to go to other teams because they didnt want to move flowers to RT. Flowers has potential for sure but he was rated the worst LT in football last season i don't get why they won't move him to RT if it means we get a vet upgrade at LT and we also move newhouse off the line to backup where he belongs. Giants have to get Monroe!!!

read below oline is looking up!

One thing it's not too early to say about Giants' top rookies

Ben McAdoo's whirlwind Giants tenure needs a break -- now
It is easy to rustle up great words and the utmost respect for Pat Flaherty, the former Giants offensive line coach for two Super Bowl-winning teams. Check in with Chris Snee, Shaun O’Hara, Rich Seubert or David Diehl. They will sing the praises of the assistant they affectionately call “Flats.’’

When Ben McAdoo replaced Tom Coughlin as head coach, about half of Coughlin’s staff was reinterviewed and retained, but Flaherty was not. He currently is coaching the 49ers offensive line, hired by Chip Kelly. McAdoo opted to go with Mike Solari, a longtime NFL coach who has worked with offensive lines for the Packers, 49ers, Seahawks, Chiefs and Cowboys.

Clearly, at least one member of the Giants’ offensive line is happy about the change. It is no secret Ereck Flowers, as a rookie, did not always appreciate Flaherty’s style and motivational techniques.

“It is a good adjustment, in every way,’’ Flowers said of Solari. “All of his techniques and different drills and everything he does. He is a great coach.’’

Flowers had plenty of technical issues to clean up coming out of Miami, and the 2015 first-round pick had an uneven first NFL season, showing exceptional toughness battling through a nagging ankle injury. His hand placement, though, was a mess.

Perhaps Solari holds the key to taking Flowers’ development to the next level. There are those who believe this move is more than cosmetic, and that Solari, 61, will be a difference-maker.

“They’ve got a great offensive line coach there in Mike Solari,’’ said Dan Shonka, general manager and national scout for Ourlads’ NFL Scouting Services. Shonka worked with Solari with the Chiefs and feels he might be the most important addition the Giants made all offseason.

“This guy is great,’’ Shonka said. “If these guys can play, he’s gonna squeeze every bit of the talent and technique out of these guys. He’s one of the top five offensive line coaches, very technique-oriented, very detailed guy. If these guys have some talent he’s gonna get it.’’

Flowers has talent. Asked if it is fair to say Flowers seems happier working under Solari than he did with Flaherty, one player said simply, “That’s fair.’’

EAST RUTHERFORD ‐ Entering his seventh professional season and on the verge of turning 30 later this month, Giants offensive lineman John Jerry thinks he's finally found the magic antidote. He's convinced what he did this offseason is about to take his game to an unforeseen level.

Jerry spent eight weeks training earlier this year in Arizona (along with Giants center Weston Richburg) at LeCharles Bentley's O-Line Performance. It was there Jerry experienced what he called a "career-changing" experience fixing flaws and improving his game.

"Best decision I ever made since I've been playing in the NFL," Jerry said. "I spent two months not just working out. I spent two months getting in a three-point stance and doing drills and doing technique things. That is something you rarely do in the offseason anywhere else that I've worked out.

"The past couple years it's mostly lifting and conditioning, not getting in stances and working on pass sets and run blocking and not giving away things whether you're on the front or back side of plays."

The hope is that working on these nuances and intricacies improves Jerry's performance. The Giants could use it. They currently have Jerry penciled in as their starting right guard.

The Giants have plenty of fresh faces. Which one will stand out the most?

It's not that Jerry needs a massive jump in his seventh season to be a capable starter. He's already proven he can start at the NFL level, with 69 starts (including eight last year) with the Giants and Dolphins.

Jerry allowed no sacks, two quarterback hits and 12 hurries in 413 pass protection snaps last season, according to Pro Football Focus. But he also recorded a -16.2 run block grade and there was admittedly room for all-around improvement. That's what he tried to achieve this offseason, with the help of Bentley and his team.

The way Bentley conducts business is somewhat unique. His facility doesn't allow just anyone to train at their Scottsdale, Arizona facility. They vet prospective clients. Richburg had to vouch for Jerry before a fact-finding phone conversation to make sure he was serious about improving his craft at this point of his career.

"Weston was VERY adamant about the type of person that John Jerry was," Bentley told NJ Advance Media in a telephone interview. "I reached out to him, it was a good connection and it all made sense. He came out and really bought into what we do. It has been working so far."

Giants O-line works on hand speed
The Giants offensive line runs through drills to test hand speed at organized team activities (OTAs) on Wednesday.
Bentley demanded at least a six-week commitment. Jerry, who brought his wife and young son to Arizona, was there for eight weeks. He'll return next month for another pre-training camp block that includes six days of work each week.

As he does with all his clients, Bentley started with a complete assessment of Jerry's play. Bentley provided harsh criticism, and they went about ways to fix the flaws that were discovered.

Even at this stage of the process, Bentley already sees a "pretty dramatic difference." Jerry has made significant progress and changes.

"It was a little of everything. Finding out ways to get out of my stance quicker. Finding ways to get my second step into the ground quicker. Hand placement whether in the run game or the pass game," Jerry said. "Just a lot of little things about football."

Transformation Diary: John Jerry
It's only the spring but Jerry feels like a different player. It won't be until the summer when the Giants actually put on pads and start hitting until anyone really knows whether there will be a discernible difference this season.

But if Jerry can take his game to the next level, it would ease some of the concerns about the right side of the Giants offensive line. The Giants tried to upgrade right tackle and guard at different points this offseason, but were (as of late spring) unsuccessful in their attempts.

It wouldn't be the norm to see an offensive lineman all of a sudden thrive this late in his career, but it's not out of the question considering the circumstances.

"John Jerry has tremendous ability inside of him," Bentley said. "That is what kept him in the league so long. But it's always just the little dots that, when they connect, sometimes a player says, 'Ah, that's what it is. That's what it is I'm trying to accomplish.' Then you've got something."

After seeing the work Jerry has put in and the immediate results, Bentley expects big things. The Giants coaches and players have also been impressed with what they've seen, showing public support of the embattled guard any opportunity possible.

NFL Top 10 QB rankings
Eli Manning was a Top 50 player on the NFL Network's Top 100 Players list. Where is he in this QB ranking?

It's not as if Bentley was working with a completely blank canvas. Jerry may have simply been a portrait in need of some final touchups.

"You're already talking about somebody who has started 60+ games in the NFL. So we know he can play. And we know he can play at a high enough level to be an NFL starter," Bentley said. "With that being said, there has always been more left on the table.

"This year I believe will be a bit unique because I believe you will begin to see the true potential he's always had throughout his career."

And the Giants will be a better team and offensive line because of it.
