Official 2015 New York Giants Thread VOL: Odell Beckham > *

Starting to get that itch, especially with B&C at training camp. Heard a lot of the interviews today. Glad Eli is good to go, and excited to see what this new offense looks like.

Hahahaha, I wanted a David Wilson jersey when he got drafted. Just couldn't do it.

I bought an Hakeem Nicks jersey last offseason, thinking he was staying. **** **** ****

my GF got it for me...we were both so sad when he got hurt. But I sent her a text a few days ago saying "David Wilson got cleared!! Jersey curse be gone"

- Can Andre Williams be a goal-line RB? "As long as it's running the ball, I think it's something I can excel at."

A few notes from Jerry Reese before heading out to practice:

- "I think we're going to be a really good football team."

- On last year's 0-6 start: "We sure don't want it to happen again."

- JR noted that Seattle turned their roster over before last year and won the Super Bowl.

- Despite all the new pieces, "I think we'll be ready for opening week."

- JR, who loves comparing Adrien Robinson to other players, notes that Julius Thomas had 1 career catch before his third season.

- JR's says Eli's age is not an issue.

- JR on Eli: "I expect nothing except for him to bounce back and be the Pro Bowl-caliber football player we know he can be."

- JR on Eli: "We expect him to come back and be a leader and bounce back and not have some of the things that happened to him last year."

- JR on Eli continued "... and be a dynamic football player for us. That's what I expect from him."

- Reese said Beckham did tweak his hamstring yesterday in practice.

- JR on the roster: "It looks good right now on paper to us."

- TC wasn't happy with yesterday's practice. JR told him "We don;t want to peak too soon."

NY Giants great Michael Strahan, to be enshrined in Football Hall of Fame, began with modest goals

BY RALPH VACCHIANO NEW YORK DAILY NEWS Wednesday, July 23, 2014, 11:32 PM A A A

Michael Strahan and Joe Namath (r.) both have Super Bowl rings and very soon Strahan will join Broadway Joe in Canton, Ohio.

When Michael Strahan was beginning his NFL career 21 years ago, he was a relatively unknown, unheralded second-round pick who was unburdened by high expectations. The Hall of Fame wasn’t even a dream. His own personal goals were relatively low.

“My goal when I first started was just to make a little money so I didn’t have to move back to my parents’ house,” Strahan said on Wednesday. “I just didn’t want to live with my parents.”
Strahan made more than enough money to get a place of his own, of course — and much, much more over the course of a stellar 15-year career that saw him emerge as one of the greatest players the Giants ever had.

And on Saturday, Aug. 2, his NFL immortality will be official when he is enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Now 42, Strahan — who has transitioned from a football star to a major celebrity as the co-host of ABC’s morning talk show, “Live with Kelly and Michael” — still finds it all hard to believe. He went to seven Pro Bowls, set the single-season sack record (22.5) and the record for most career sacks by a Giant (141.5), yet he still is overwhelmed by the thought of joining such an exclusive club that already has so many Giants legends as members.

“It’s overwhelming to be honest with you because obviously (Wellington) Mara (the late co-owner of the Giants) was there when I was drafted,” said Strahan, who will be presented by his Fox Sports colleague Jay Glazer. “He’d come to practice every day, the face of the NFL and more so the Giants, one of the original founders of the game. It’s such a rich history. And on top of that, Harry Carson being a great friend of mine as well as LT (Lawrence Taylor) being a great friend and the one guy I looked up to when I came in. Just so much history on the side of the Giants.

“I’m just honored, because it’s nothing I had in my brain, nothing I imagined when I started out, that I’d be joining these guys in the Hall of Fame.”

Not surprisingly, the Giants will be well-represented among the small army of supporters Strahan is expecting to join him in Canton, Ohio, for the enshrinement ceremony. Along with his family and friends, he’s also invited former teammates such as Keith Hamilton, Antonio Pierce and Jessie Armstead, and former coaches such as Denny Marcin (his old defensive line coach) and Jim Fassel. And the entire Giants organization will be there, since the team plays the Buffalo Bills in the Hall of Fame Game the next night, to watch his bust get placed among the NFL’s all-time greats

NY Giants release first unofficial depth chart
BY EBENEZER SAMUEL

Rashad Jennings, who joined the Giants after one season with the Raiders, is running with the first team as Big Blue opens training camp.
The Giants released their first unofficial depth chart of training camp before practice on Thursday, and it had several interesting takeaways. None of this is written in stone, but it's an early look at how the Giants view their talent.

Some of the depth chart was obvious: Eli Manning is the starting quarterback, and Victor Cruz will be his top receiver. But there were also a few quick observations that could be drawn from the early look at the Big Blue pecking order.

- Rashad Jennings is this team's meal-ticket running back

There had been some question about this, at least among fantasy folks, when David Wilson returned from offseason neck surgery, but Jennings is running first team. Wilson is backing him up on the chart, and that likely won't change. Andre Williams is listed as the fourth-team running back, but given his camp usage, as a goal line option with Eli Manning's unit, don't expect that to stay the same.

- Adrien Robinson has some work to do at tight end

The 2012 fourth-round pick was labeled the "JPP of tight ends" by GM Jerry Reese, but he's far from Jason Pierre-Paul on the depth chart. Larry Donnell is listed as the first-team tight end, with veteran Daniel Fells on second team. Robinson is on what appears to be the third team. He's a tremendous athlete, but he is still without an NFL catch, and he apparently still must gain the coaching staff's trust.

- Brandon Mosley will replace Chris Snee

This is hardly surprising, but Mosley is the first-team right guard. He started at the spot from Day One of camp, filled in for Snee in that spot when the vet needed to rest in the spring as well. He's been solid for the most part. John Jerry, the ex-Dolphin, backs Mosley up.

- The Giants really like Devon Kennard

The fifth-round pick out of USC seems to be the first linebacker off the bench. He's seen action in the middle with the first team, and he's listed as the starting strongside linebacker. That will change when Jon Beason returns from injury, with Beason (foot) sliding into the middle and fill-in MLB Jameel McClain moving to the strongside, likely pushing Kennard back to the bench. But Kennard has impressed, clearly.

- Tom Coughlin is trusting his veterans at defensive tackle

Cullen Jenkins and Mike Patterson are listed a the starters, despite the hopes that Johnathan Hankins would eventually claim a spot. This will be a rotation, of course, so all the DTs will play.

- Rueben Randle is Victor Cruz's tag-team partner

Randle will start opposite Cruz. Odell Beckham Jr. has made it easy for Randle to grab control of the starting spot with his hamstring woes, but the Giants really need Randle starting. He's the lone big WR they have.

Agreed, he has to show out. He's got the #2 WR position locked in, with not viable TE to steal catches away

Well, the one thing this team really lacks is a game breaker. Cruz wasn't really a deep threat consistently, Randle needs to be a guy who goes across the middle and gets 1st downs. So OBJ should be the guy who stretches the field.

It sounds like alot of the Giants beat writer our high on LB Devon Kennard. He's already starting at SLB because of McClain being slide to MLB after Beason's injury, and moved past Herzlich for 2nd string MLB.

Really excited for this season. I'm loving all this speed they brought in over the off season they're gonna be real exciting to watch if all goes well. Agreed this has to be Randle's year too. I feel like were 2-3 injuries from a really rough season though. Our depth is weak. Still mad about them cutting Will Hill but it had to be done.

I'm ready. Just bought a new Sony and bout to renew my NFL Sunday ticket. Gonna make the short trip to the HOF next weekend to get it all started...

I didn't think OBJ was necessary at #12. Always believed Randle could produce as a true #2 opposite Cruz when Nicks left town. Jernigan in the slot fine by me.

That's the thing with Randle. Dude has been inconsistent, ran wrong routes and dropped passes last year. I think Beckam was a good pick up considering the new offense.

Well..the last 2 notable pass catching TE acquisitions(bennett/myers) were disappointing, and boss/ballard/bear etc helped get 2 Lombardis. I wanted Ebron..but I guess its A.Rob/committee with most of the damage on the outside. I guess if we get solid run blocking out of the position, ill be content. A la Howard Cross.

Adrien Robinson has all the tools to be successful simply from a size standpoint. He's a proto typical HUGE target. Get your routes together and sure up them hands. Job is his for the taking

If Reese likes him, so do I. I've learned not to doubt Jerry even though he's hit some challenging moments in-between Super Bowl runs.

Hes quite high on him(robinson)...they were also high on t.beckham..40 catches and solid blocking at the very least, hopefully.....I think TEs are good for Eli when theyre not expecting the ball(shockey/marty B)..lol
