Help with Manufacturing dates on vi champagnes

Hi guys can anyone tell me if nike manufacture sneakers around 6 months before release? I have a pair of jordan vi champagnes with manufacture date of 12/24/13 which means they were produced in 2013 when they didnt release until last month guy i bought from insists they are 100% authentic but all my others are manufactured shortly before release is this normal???
