2019-20 New York Jets season thread. 1-4 (10/21 vs NE MNF)

3-1 :smokin

Bye week is coming just in time with these injuries. :smh:

Screw the overrated phins, watching the game with a couple of their fans,so much hype.

Wasn't on NT at all yesterday other than before kickoff. No jet leg for this team in London

- We came out strong in the 1st half, but once the penalties started totaling up they made it closer than it was
- Cromartie.. 9/10x he is going to get flagged for holding or DPI, and he doesn't seem to adjust. Marcus Williams deserves more play
- Ivory gawd, Eagles loss showed how important he is. Guys legs and feet do not stop moving
- Brian Winters MVP for keeping Suh in check
- Buster Skrine is a player :smokin
- See what happens when Fitz doesn't throw 58 times? He did his thing and even with his legs too
- Brandon Marshall is having a great start to the season

3-1 into the BYE is huge, especially with some guys banged up a bit. Need to come out strong against Washington; can't ever repeat that penalty total again.

As far as Bowles knows, Sheldon will be back. He hasn't heard anything from the league as far as further punishment.

Great breakdown from someone over at the Jets forum I go on -

TonyMaC

Our QB situation is a temporary fix at best. Fitzpatrick is a good QB in terms of short range passes as he's got a quick release and quicker decision making. He's also decent under pressure. But he gambles quite a bit with WR's he feels comfortable with and throws into tight coverage at ill-advised times. and yes he's got poor touch on deep throws.

Smith is our backup wether the circumstances behind his injury was on him or not, and he won't get opportunity to show what he has with this offense if/until Fitzpatrick falters hard. we know what he's done, we don't know he COULD do now that circumstances are different, and we may never know. for now, BACKUP.

Our Running-backs are an above average tandem with veteran savvy. Ivory might be one of the best pure runners in the game, and his backups are able to spell him with an acceptable level of production on the ground. they are average at the receiving game.

Our O-line is an average unit that could afford to commit less penalties but has in general given adequate time for Fitzpatrick to operate and made a few good blocks to aid our running game.

Our Tight ends…are nonexistent. huh...

Our Wide Receivers are an above average unit with two of the best physical receivers in the game in Marshall and Decker. We arguably have all we need to win with those two and Ivory alone. the rest need to step up their impact in lieu of those two however, as too many crucial passes have been dropped. Its a young unit, they just need some time to get up to speed.

Our Defensive line is perhaps the best 3-4 unit there is, elite run stuffers, good at getting pressure, and now Shelly's back. we all know we're good here.

Our Linebackers are a mixed unit. they're slower than most, can sometimes generate a good amount of coverage on blitz's, are good in run coverage, and below average at pass coverage. they're the weakest unit on the defense but contribute in its successes thanks to a hearty secondary and beneficial scheme.

Our Secondary… is elite. Its one of the best depth charts in the league. They can blitz, they can stop the run, they can pick QB's off a great deal, they're generally good at man to man… they can also afford to shave off those interference calls.

Our Special teams needs work in return coverage. Folk is fine, Quigley needs to get some more hang time.

Our coaches are sound schematically and in general put our players in a position to succeed. they're mature and no-nonsense without being hard-*****.

We are what our record says we are, 3-1, 3-0 in the AFC, 1-0 in the division.

We will win more games off the strengths of our coaching, defense and trinity of offensive weapons.

We will lose some more games because we're far from perfect and allow mistakes to get away from us.

we're playoff contenders, but not playoff assured.

In general we're a good team with flaws. darksiders need not fret, we're not a disaster waiting to happen. we're alright.

yeah cutting Powell for Thompkins is weird

we're fine at WR, a return man is needed

Can Todd Bowles keep Chris Ivory healthy after bye?

Chris Ivory will have plenty of time to recover after punishing the Miami Dolphins for a career-high 166 yards and a touchdown on Sunday in London.

However, Ivory better soak up this bye week of rest. After this break, the New York Jets will need their workhorse for the remaining 12 games and perhaps postseason if they can get there.

Head coach Todd Bowles knows he will have to walk a fine line this season. He wants and needs Ivory to set the physical tone for the Jets. But he also has to find a way to keep the 6-foot, 222-pound bruiser fresh and healthy somehow as well.

"It is a long haul," Bowles said. "After this we got 12 straight. We are going to monitor to make sure that he is getting his work in but we are still giving some breaks in between here and there. We know he is a bell cow and everything else but we still got two other guys that can run the ball."

The Jets' backfield, though, is banged up. Backup Bilal Powell suffered a groin injury against the Dolphins. Ivory was already coming back after being an active scratch in Week 2 against the Eagles with a quad injury. And the Jets have Stevan Ridley (knee) on the PUP list.

Ridley could come off PUP between Weeks 6-to-8. And there's Zac Stacy, who gives the Jets another veteran running back to use.

Bowles could rest Ivory during the week by having him go limited in practices. It remains to be seen if he will give Ivory the ball as much as he did on Sunday when the back carried it 29 times.

One thing Bowles won't do is discourage Ivory from running as hard and physical as he does even if it puts him at risk of injury.

"His style, his physical nature, he really is a great representation of what we are trying to be as Jets," quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick said. "Just a strong physical guy, gives 100-percent effort on every play. We are always trying to establish that physical presence with our offensive and defensive line. His running style is certainly well suited for that."

"He is a physical specimen," Fitzpatrick added of Ivory staying healthy for the rest of the season. "If anybody can handle it, it certainly would be him."

Jets uncertain if Leonard Williams, David Harris will be healthy after bye

Todd Bowles ideally would like the bye week to come midway through the season.

But given the Jets’ injuries coming out of London, Bowles thinks the Jets’ bye comes at the perfect time even if it is during Week 5.

Safety Calvin Pryor (bruised knee), linebacker David Harris (quad), defensive end Leonard Williams (sprained ankle) and running back Bilal Powell (groin) all go into the bye week banged up. And Bowles isn’t sure if all of them will be ready to play after the bye.

“I hope so but it is too early to tell,” Bowles said. “As long as they get treatment and everything heals, hopefully that is the process. But I won’t be able to tell until next week right now.”

Perhaps highlighting how much his injured players need to heal up, Bowles said he welcomes the bye now. Offensive lineman Willie Colon (knee), tight end Jeff Cumberland (concussion), wide receiver Chris Owusu (knee), linebacker Trevor Reilly (finger) and cornerback Darrin Walls (hamstring) all did not play in London against the Dolphins and also are on the mend.

“Initially, I would always say Week 8,” Bowles said of his preference for when the bye should be. “But with a couple of guys getting banged up, I would say it came at a pretty good time.”

One positive for the Jets is the impending return of Sheldon Richardson from a four-game suspension. That will help especially if Williams’ injury proves to be troublesome.

Hope this week off is enough rest.

 Is that Young Bowles?

I asked this earlier but is anyone going to Week 9 vs the Jags? I'll be making the trip :pimp:

My boys and I are most likely selling our tickets that game. We all decided to let go of at least one, possibly 2; just to see if we can make some cash back.

@ESPNNewYork: Sheldon Richardson rejoins team, says 'I'm coming to eat' http://t.co/Y81xZDKLkM

our run defense hasn't been great so far, hopefully Sheldon helps that.

i still wouldn't mind if we parted ways with him cause of his immaturity, especially when we re-sign Mo to a long term deal.
