2019-20 New York Jets season thread. 1-4 (10/21 vs NE MNF)

^ If we're going to give Rex most of the credit for 8-8 shouldn't he also take most of the blame for 4-12?

No because thats most of Idzik's fault

Schedule came out in April and it was clear that we were facing teams with potent pass attacks and what did Idzik do with our cap money? Sign a #2 WR to a lucrative deal and he did nothing to improve our secondary.

We should've just drafted Clinton-Dix who is an actual free safety, but instead drafted a strong safety to join the other 3 strong safeties on the current roster.

Hell we would've been better off just drafting Vacarro at #9 last year instead of a cornerback hoping to replace Revis right away.

I'm not saying Rex deserved to stay but Idzik should've gone out the door first instead of Rex

Man, they both had to go.

Rex wasn't the reason for 8-8 lucky bounces were. We should have had a 4-12 or worse season last year. This year, a few lucky bounces and we would have been 8-8 too.

We can't say it's because of Rex when we win but not his fault when we lose. It's a mix. He got lucky and saved his job last year, dspite ******* up more than a few times, and he got unlucky with the breaks this year and the team record was a closer reflection of their play.

In the end we need a competent coach who can oversee both sides of the ball, not just defense, and a GM who isn't intentionally tanking. I'm convinced Idzik was brought in and told "save us money and show Rex the door" and now because there's no way to justify keeping him without an all out fan mutiny, Woody's asking him to fall on his sword.

Rex is the scapegoat for the team wanting to blow everything up and I'm sure Idzik thought he'd escape with his head and get to be around for the rebuilding project. There's no other explanation for intentionally refusing to sign free agents with $20 mil in cap room and clear deficiencies on both sides of the ball.

It had to be sabotage.

honestly i think rex will do a good job as a head coach wherever he goes.    (i'm hoping san francisco)  i wanted him to stay, but if woody doesn't screw this up it might be best for both sides.   i like that woody is consulting with football guys like ron wolf and casserly this time around before making any moves, and to force rex on another gm would be bad moving forward for both rex and the gm.

yeah the offense never developed while he was here but if you don't have the talent what can you do?   brian billick was considered an offensive genius when he was the 98 vikings offensive coordinator, he was a pretty good offensive coordinator as well, but his teams were best known for their defense.  those teams were average at best offensively and that's a compliment.  they had a decent rb in jamal lewis and guys named dilfer, grbac, and boller throwing the ball so despite being a good offensive coach, he never had the proper pieces on offense.  coaching can only do so much if you don't have good players.

like i've said, when he had good teams they were on the door of the super bowl despite a rookie and second year qb who while is not as bad as some people label him to be, isn't nowhere near that russell wilson like level either.   could've arguably made a super bowl with that rookie qb had shonn greene not went down when the run game was being effective.

the bad teams he's had,  2012 with the tebow nonsense, no type of receivers whatsoever,   the fact they were 6-7 and a game out of the last wild card spot is kinda overacheiving in hindsight.   2013, perhaps they got some lucky breaks but they played like a team who wanted to prove the critics wrong,  2014, they didn't get the breaks they got in 2013 and it showed on their record.  had they not blown the green bay game, perhaps the season unfolds differently.  they go home 2-0 with some momentum for the bears and lions games.  if the field goal doesn't get blocked in new england, perhaps they salavage the season,  the miami mnf game, vikings game, and second new england game were all games they didn't get the bounces they got last season.    seeing how other teams quit on their coaches,    mike wallace in miami yesterday is an example, the team has always played hard for rex.

he doesn't have a championship pedigree, but working for guys like woody, idzik, tannenbaum, and bradway its going to be tough for anyone to have one.   idzik set him up to fail this season and the team as a whole for failure and for that i'm glad he went down and took the fall as well.  i'll credit rex for not once airing his frustrations out at that piece of garbage idzik to the media. i woudn't have blamed him if he did though.   idzik did nothing to improve that team and build it to rex's strengths/

I don't trust Woody to make sure that the right guys gets hired. I also don't think there's a better head coaching candidate out there better than Rex.

“Darrelle is a great player,” Johnson said, via Brian Costello of the New York Post. “If I thought I could have gotten Darrelle for that [contract], I probably would have taken him. It was our best judgment to do what we did. Darrelle’s a great player. I’d love Darrelle to come back.”

I call ******** on that. If he really wanted Teddy P back, he would have shelled out the cash.

@AdamSchefter: New York Jets become favorites to land former Bills HC Doug Marrone, who is from the Bronx.

:nerd:

Eh...they probably will hire him. We'll see how it goes. Might be good, hell, he got the Bills playing better than us with Kyle Orton for god's sake

.

We need to get a GM in place first. I don't like Marrone at all and he'd NEVER be my first choice. We need to go after Quinn or Bowles. We made a mistake getting rid of Rex this year. There's so many teams that are more attractive than us for new head coaches it's not even funny, SMH.

I would rather get a GM first no question, but the idea of Marrone doesn't rub me the wrong way. Especially, if he can bring his defensive staff with him. Say what you want but he owned Rex, he turned around 'Cuse and coached Buffalo to a winning record in decades with Kyle Orton and had the balls to bench EJ, which probably pissed off the FO. Also he's a native New Yorker (BX) which is good too.

Personally, I rather have Bowles as the HC, but it's looking more and more that Marrone is the guy.

Also, Marrone is a no nonsense guy, I'm sure the beat writers are ripping this choice because they won't have a chance to get some good material like they did with Rex.

Happy New Years peoples!

Doug Marrone = a potential Kotite part 2

These idiots better hire a gm first and let the gm pick his guy. Jets will Jet though.

I also don't like the fact that Marrone just left the Bills high and dry. Dude literally tucked tail after going 9-7 and possibly coming back to a team with QB issues. I don't like that. Why not come back and continue to build? Why would we hire a guy like that? I'm convinced Woody might or already knows the top coaching candidates aren't coming here so he's panicking and planning on taking Marrone. I don't even want to touch on the fact that they might take a coach before a GM. That's just *** backwards.
