2016-17 New York Jets season thread / 3-9. Petty QB final 4 games - Page 32

I still say Rex deserves to stay no coach in the nfl could win with a roster this lousy. Not Sean Payton not tomlin not even God himself could save this team until they get a real QB. I'm sorry I can't judge a guy whose best QB was mark Sanchez.

I wasn't a huge fan of the Pryor pick on draft day and now I'm really not liking it. Mike Vick should start the rest of the season though

It this point, I'm not opposed if he stays nor will I be up in arms if he gets the axe either.

I do think he needs to work on certain aspects of his coaching style and in typical jets luck, he'll make those improvements wherever he resurfaces in his second job.

If they fire him, I could see good potential head coaching candidates avoiding the job the same way some gm candidates avoided the jets job due to woody. Ultimately resulting in a Woody Johnson yes man taking the job.

The Jets need to stop looking for the short term solution and the quick fix though. This is rock bottom. 2012 was bad but they were 6-7 with a chance to sneak in the playoffs if they won out going into week 15. 2011 and 2013 were middle of the pack seasons with more underachieving in 2011.

They need to just embrace the rebuild, realize that while they look a bit more vunerable, that division is the patriots until Brady retires. Take the time to put something together that can achieve sustainable success, rather then hope for a 10-6 wild card season every few years.

Sounds easier on paper but they need to reevaluate a bunch of things when this season ends.

I say tank the rest of the way. No reason to even try at this point. Might as well bring back Mark Sanchez.
Only thing about tanking is the coach needs to be on board.

If you know your job is safe and just tank and play young guys and see who can be part of the long term solution it can happen.

If your coaching for your job or to look good for a future team your trying to win games.

This team is bad though. They can try to win games with Vick or Geno and L's are inevitable.

hate to say this, but it's time for this franchise to 'clean' house.  REX has to go.  mark went, and now REX has to go.  they need a new image, a restart.

I'm down.

Geno is a bum...

I know some people are opposed on getting a QB in next year's draft but it's simple. Our future QB isn't on the current roster.... we have to look elsewhere.

We're landing a top 4 pick this year so who would you guys like to see get drafted by the Jets in 2015 draft?

A lot of early mock drafts got Amari Cooper of Alabama being a good fit for Jets and I wouldn't be mad if we got him...

Mariota or Winston please... There aren't any good free agent QBs available in the offseason and there's no way we land one through a trade.

I think we need to go after a veteran QB in free agency. Drafting a rookie year after year will not work in our market.

I don't post much on NT on sundays because i'm with my group of friends and we just watch RedZone all day laugh.gif

Today was disgraceful. How the **** do you throw 3 picks in 1 quarter. I honestly wouldn't mind finishing 2-14 or 3-13 and getting a top draft pick. There's no way we salvage this season unless some kind of miracle happens.

40+ to the Buffalo ******* Bills. sick.gif

Draft a rookie with actual franchise talent. I have a feeling they trade for Cutlets though.

Winston in New York knowing the Jets luck and track record with drafting qb's would be a recipe for disaster.

love his talent.

however with the NY spotlight and relentless media - that could be a recipe for disaster for him

Might be a long shot but I hope Winston can also play in the MLB, something like a relief pitcher. He said he would love to play for the Yankees so maybe having him in NY wouldn't be a bad idea...

I don't care for these big name college QB's. I want some kid who is NFL ready and played in an NFL type system. That Mariota kid doesn't look like he's NFL ready.

Cutler should've signed with us back in 2009 when he was free agent.

Sam Bradford might be out there.  There's a couple of dudes including Hoyer but I don't have the list in front of me. I just think we need to let a rookie sit and figure things out instead of instantly throwing him to the wolves.

the NY media won't allow it to happen and a good chunk of the fanbase isn't the most patient, but with whoever the next guy is at qb, they need to treat it as a long term investment and stick with them as long as the progress is being shown. let them make their mistakes and take their lumps as long as the development is there.

problem is this, you get stupid ny post and daily news backpage covers talking about, "a star is born" after a week 1 win, Sanchez, and after a week 5 monday night win, Geno and a few weeks later these same dudes are labeled busts and trash. Perhaps that is what they are, but you go from one extreme to the other and back again.

it's alot of the fanbase who I don't think is capable of letting a first round pick qb develop even if the talent is there.  have a bad game in november where you throw 3 or 4 picks over the course of the game,  (not in the first quarter and first 8 passes like geno :lol) and you'll have a portion of the fanbase ready to turn on them, label them a bust, and want to bring in some guy who's been a career backup elsewhere, had a few decent starts but isn't the long term option,   guys like kirk cousins, josh mccown etc.

bradford on the cheap wouldn't be bad though, especially if a qb is drafted with that top pick.  he has something to prove and can take the lumps early in the season and if he doesn't get the job done, bring the rookie in if they decide to go that route.

You either have it or you don't. Watching someone else isn't going to help if you don't have the natural ability to play QB in the NFL. Especially if he didn't come out of an NFL style system.

You have to let the QB play with the wolves so he can learn how to het through the motions.
If the situation is a train wreck, its better to let the guy sit initially.

If you got a decent run game and good defense to fall back on as well as a sufficient offensive line then throw them out there but it all depends on the situation of the respective team to me.
Sanchez could've been a good QB if he had a coordinator that believed in him, and they didn't do that Tebow nonsense. They ruined Sanchez's career. Would he have been a superstar, no, but with a good run game and a good defense, he'd be a solid player if they handled him correctly from the get go. Schotty did a **** job.

I don't care what Idzik says, I care about what he DOES...which hasn't been much. 20 mil under the cap for nothing
