2019-20 New York Jets season thread. 1-4 (10/21 vs NE MNF)

Basically and I agree with him. Don't know why they aren't but if Fitz was another "type" of QB media would be tearing him a new one right now. Fact of the matter is that he does not deserve anywhere near 16 million annually. Last season was his best and he still threw us out of the postseason against a mediocre bills squad that he could not beat at all last season. Dude is drunk

He's not drunk when guys like Osweiler, Bradford and Chase Daniel are getting big money and have never done anything in the NFL before.

Raiders made TE Mychal Rivera available for trade

i'd take a look at him if i was Maccagnan

Ehh and I say that because Gailey doesn't bat an eyelash towards the TE in his system. Tho, I hope he does work Amaro and Sudfeld into the mix because aside from a TE's blocking skills, if they have the ability to catch the ball it will only help the rest of the offense function. We found success without using Cumberland and Davis practically at all last year, but I still think the TE should get looks.

Don't know who Bruce Carter is, but the Jets signed him, sounds good for depth. Also hearing he can cover, sob that's a relief.

He was a freak athlete ILB for the Cowboys that could do it all but never lived up to the contract he signed with the Bucs. I mean we are playing with house money with him. He could go back to his old form or he will suck and we lost nothing.

if you have time... read "Collision Low Crossers" by Nicholas Dawidoff"

Great look about the Rex-led Jets after the two playoff years. Literally every detail.

From how the coaches talk to each other and about their players... to the draft process and how each coach/ executive felt about a draft prospect.

(Rex Ryan almost single handedly lost the trust from his coaches when he draft Scotty McKnight in the 7th rd.)

(Dennis Thurman wanted to draft cornerback Jimmy Smith so bad... he wanted 'thugs' in his team)

Very interesting. The author literally spent the whole year with the Jets and jotted everything down.

It just sucks how it's all outdated and they're mentioning players that aren't with the Jets anymore (or even in the NFL anymore), but it gives a good look about the daily life of the Jets front office.

I'm not even worried about Fitz, I'm wondering what kind of compensation we'll get for Wilkerson at this point. We need that cap relief and those picks could really help us fill holes on the roster.

You think Leonard is ready to start every down ?

I think that he's ready to start. Dude was a VERY solid part of our line last year. He actually held the fort down really well while Sheldon was suspended. But with Jarvis Jenkins in the rotation as well I think our line would be okay. Don't get it confused though, if we could resign Mo, I'd want it to happen but dude is asking for money we don't have. We gotta let him go. I also wouldn't be surprised if we take a defensive lineman late in this draft. This class is loaded on D-line.

The Daily News has learned that the team has asked the three-time Pro Bowl left tackle to take a significant pay cut to free up money to help re-sign Ryan Fitzpatrick.

..................................

The Jets discussed their plans with Ferguson last week at the team facility, according to sources. The exact amount of the pay cut remains unclear, but the team would almost certainly prefer to free up about $4-$5 million. Ferguson, who was working out at One Jets Drive when the team approached him, is scheduled to earn $10.375 million in cash (base salary and bonuses) this season.

instead of taking a paycut... D'Brickashaw Ferguson retires.

Wow.

Although it's a good move team wise - he'll free up probably $9 mil in cap space, it's sad to see a 10-year vet go.

One of my favourite players ever. Was so happy when we chose him at #4 way back when. Wasn't the sexy pick but was the smartest choice.

We never had to worry about the blind spot since then. Showcases how steady he was in a demanding position.

Thanks for the memories Brick!

Ferguson played 10 years, started every game and never missed a snap due to injury. Remarkable career. #nyj

Can't say a bad word about Brick man :frown: . This solves our Cap issue; frees up more than $9M but now a gaping hole at LT.

Wow, didn't see this coming. Now the Jets need an LT :smh:

Not good, not good at all.

felt like even before he officially retired that it was time to look for an OT regardless.

Maybe mid rounds... now it's definitely an emphasis to look at the blind side in the first 2

Jets knew this was coming. They could have something in the works already to fill the hole at left tackle. #nyj
