But yeah survey could definitely be better. The world still has a long way to go in figuring out these things.

I got Sport Buff. Every other sport sucks except Baseball, and Soccer to a much lesser degree

I hate ESPN.

Hey Meth I don't think this was a very good survey.

I got tech guru but I don't even own a computer.
The choices we had for answers weren't very good.
I assume that the "tech" category simply represents broad interest in consumer electronics, not that you spend your Saturdays building robots in your garage.  Some of the prompts have pictures of cell phones, etc. rather than computers.  It's reasonable to assume that these selections would contribute to a "tech guru" designation.

Even if, in your heart of hearts, you don't really care about that stuff, such a response is still helpful in that it indicates the types of imagery that people respond to.

As we disallow auto-playing audio on NT, part of the point here is to figure out what content people enjoy seeing, and use that to help inform things like advertising decisions.
Congratulations! Here are your results.

The survey was created by a company called "Visual DNA."  https://www.visualdna.com/quizzes/

They claim that the image format encourages "emotional" rather than "analytical" responses.  Of course, this requires them to use self-explanatory and evocative images.  With the first question, pictured in the topic post, respondents are asked which image is most likely to spark a conversation.  Visual DNA is based in London, so, for that audience, a picture of a soccer stadium encapsulates "sports."  That's not true here.  Similarly, not many people find a generic picture of an old model laptop or a prosaic stack of unlabeled books to be all that stimulating, even if, in real life, they might be excited to run into someone reading a book find intriguing or see someone with the latest, cutting edge device.

We could easily critique their methodology or even the ethics involved in the way this type of survey is normally deployed, but, for our purposes here, it seems preferable to the primary alternatives.

A couple of years back, Huddler was interested in running an audience survey on the site.  That one would've been your typical, text based, radial button/drop down multiple choice / Likert scale survey.  The odds of obtaining anything even remotely resembling a representative sample were slim to none.

With this format, it's a lot easier to at least gain responses - especially if it's distributed in a subversive way ("take our awesome personality quiz!")  We insisted on an honest and direct presentation that we feel better respects the principle of informed consent.  That may cost us some participation (because how many people truly want to spend part of their weekend taking what they know to be a market research survey), but it's simply the right thing to do.

Our hope is that everyone recognizes that we're working hard to respond to the many requests we've received to further improve the quality and relevance of the advertising that appears on our community.

We're going to be using the same ad servers as Wikia moving forward, so we're attempting to supply them with some audience information in a format they prefer.

I greatly appreciate everyone's cooperation and support thus far.  We're working hard each day to make the experience the best it can be, and Wikia should be a fantastic partner for us in that respect.

I got:
You're a Gaming Buff
You love your console. There's no level you can't master, no cheat code you can't find out.

This part is spot on:

You love to get things done. You're practical, reliable, and don't let things get in your way. You like life to run really smoothly for you and all your friends and family. If they're happy, then you're happy too. And key to this happiness is knowing where you stand - you value facts, honesty and frank opinions

Thanks for the explanation, Meth. I've just been unhappy with surveys in general. I agree though that the pictorial approach is an improvement, or at the very least an approach worth trying.

You're a Music Addict

You're so close to your favourite act you can almost touch them!

Whether it's Lady Gaga or Radio Gaga you love losing yourself in the fun, chaos and beauty of some live music and culture. You're always first to know when a new act has music out or a hot up and coming actor is about to open a new show.

You're curious, confident, and courageous when you need to be. You like to know how everything works, and love to take things apart to find out what makes them tick. People know better than to rush you for snap decisions - you need plenty of time for all your research. And when you do speak, they listen.

You should check out these Wikias!

eh kinda true not bad tho
