I've seen foam rollers mentioned on NT several times lately. About to order one off Amazon based off those rec's...just have one basic question

Amazon product ASIN B0040EGNIU
This is the one everyone has right? Couldn't find the old thread via search. And do you guys go with the extra firm option or just regular?

Probably a dumb question but you just roll your back and sides on it when you get it right? How long is a typical "session"

GOODBYE BACK PAIN! (hopefully)

I dunno why, but I was expecting foamposites converted into roller skates..

If you've never foam rolled before you should start out with the smooth part. The ones with spikes and grooves penetrate deeper for when basic foam rollers just don't cut it anymore.

Go slow and up towards the heart. When you feel a tender spot stop there and lay on it that spot for awhile.

Thanks for the advice, now, for a beginner would you go with the standard roller or the extra firm?

I got a pretty bad case of jumper's knees and this definitely helps. Still working on bringing up my pain tolerance though, this hurts.

I would just go with the extra firm. It's not uncommon though for people to have multiple foam rollers. My dude is a trainer and has like 5 different types at his house... he prefers it to hit different body parts. You might want to get one of those basic $10 joints and mess around with it for a week. For my calves and hammys I like the one you posted. My gym has the orange one. But for my back I use a basic smooth one. You will have to see where you are most tender (ayo).

I have the same set up from rogue. Extra firm roller and lacrosse balls. At first, it doesnt feel too great. I wouldnt say it hurts, but I couldnt do it for more than a couple seconds when I first starting using it. The key with these mobility tools is to develop soft muscle tissue. So if you spend enough time on it, it'll break down stiff muscles and it becomes more enjoyable to use. I use it everyday before and after lifting, and even on rest days.

Theres a ton of ways to use it too, Not just on your back going up and down. You also use them for your quads, hammies, calves, shoulders, lats, i even use them on my biceps and triceps.

Have this off a recommendation from an NTer. Works wonders. I run long distance and go to the gym here and there so I use it before and after. I especially use it before I sleep I knock out so easy

Roller and a golf ball do the trick for me. I had the most savage knot in my shoulder that I beat into submission with both

My workouts have changed completely for the better since I started using rollers two years ago. Highly recommended.

I have the same roller OP posted at home and it doesn't really cut it for me anymore. I use a PVC pipe mainly and a lacrosse ball for trigger points. Use it on my lats, lower back, quads, hammies, and calves.
