Who would've guessed that Chicharito would have more goals than Falcao at this point of the season?

I doubt he wants to come back to Manchester anytime soon

why do footballers, in general, dive as much as they do?

IDK, because they want to win and will do it at all costs?

Whats that have to do with Jese & Khedira coming back from ACL tears 7 months later and Derrick Rose nearly two years?

because of this broad statement in response to footballers vs other athletes
Na, I think it's more of a difference of mentality.
Very interesting that you look at diving as a positive attribute

My apologies if I am somehow misunderstanding what you are trying to say; didn't mean to frazzle you.

Na I don't think it's positive at all, I hate diving. But put yourself in the mind of a player, it's relatively easy to answer why they dive - They dive because they want to win, they're essentially cheating because they want an advantage.

Why it takes Derrick Rose a year and a half to come back from an ACL tear as opposed to footballers is speculative. I think it's because of a difference in attitude and mentality, that's just me tho. I don't think it has to do with doctors.

Exactly what I was thinking upon reading that.

My thoughts: 1) There are varying severities of ACL tears, no? Maybe Rose's tear was a bigger one (don't know the proper medical terminology). 2) There's probably a higher bar of fitness for basketball players to clear before coming back, since basketball seems like it's harder on the knees (constant switching of directions, constant jumping, games every other day, etc.).

I feel you. Makes sense, this kind of goes along the line of PEDs in the MLB the whole mindset of why for players (specifically fringe players) feel the need to cheat... The payoff of juicing and finding great success far outweighs that of getting caught cheating.

In regards to Derrick Rose, you're in the NBA thread enough to know the type of slander everyone throws at him

Rose is definitely not the norm

sorry for the confusion

I just saw the "difference in mentalities" and figured it was a general statement...... didn't realize Coup was just speaking about ACL tear recoveries.

But ya, I agree with your points on the difference in ACL recoveries.

I would also add, that every ACL tear is different.

And that tearing an ACL while playing playing football has to be different than while on the court playing basketball. The trauma of tearing an ACL while doing a "footballing action" is certainly different from the actions and movements  of that on the basketball floor that lead to ACL tears.

At the same time, Derrick Rose is pretty unique, in that it has taken him this  long to come back from an ACL tear.... not sure if its fair to single him out and say because of his struggling 2 year recovery, footballers have superior mental fortitude than other athletes, as he seems to be the only athlete of significance to baby himself so hard... I can think of plenty of tough non-football athletes that have come back and just as quickly as Jese or Khedira.

To be fair, I don't think Coupe meant his statement in the "foolballers have superior mental fortitude than other athletes" way. That sort of blanket statement is just silly. However, I think the different natures of the sports have an effect on the players' mentalities. Basketball players' in-season lives just seem to be a lot more grueling both physically and mentally--constant traveling, three/four games a week rather than one, less chance to "take it easy" since you're 1/5 of a team rather than 1/11, etc. Add a higher chance of injury to the mix, and I can see how basketball players are incentivized to sit out longer and maybe delay returning to the grind.

Not trying to turn this into the NBA thread but I find some of the Derrick Rose "slander" (I like to call it jokes) hilarious - so I'm beyond the point of standing up for him. I hope he comes back strong tho it's just getting pathetic.

I'm was just simply comparing Jese, Khedira's mind-frame to Derrick Rose's. Plenty of American sports stars have come back early after ACL tear's (Adrian Peterson, Rubio, etc) Derrick Rose stands to learn a thing or two from them as well.

But I do think Soccer players come back earlier than basketball players when they tear their ACL. I think most of that is due to the fact that soccer is so competitive and no one is ever guaranteed a start -Same thing with the NFL. They have no choice but to come back as soon as possible or else they'll become an afterthought. Derrick Rose can take his sweet *** time and he's done so.

The medical care here in the states is different compared to what's available aboard. There are surgical procedures & methods that aren't sanctioned here but ok in Germany & Europe.

That factors into the equation when discussing rapid recovery of Euro athletes compared to US athletes.

Don't forgot Russ, he didn't tear his ACL but he came back from 3 knee operations within 12 months I believe and he still looks as explosive as ever

Most passes in the Premier League tonight: Carrick (80), Smalling (78), Rojo (72), Fellaini (60), Mata (59), Williams (58), Bartley (55).

Man Utd have now won four Premier League games on the trot for the first time since December 2013. #MUFC

Yet somehow there are people who think LVG isn't doing enough, or that his methods aren't working.

I agree with the mentality thing but i would love to read about this stuff.

Like didn't Kobe go overseas to get that platelet procedure in his knee to stop tendinitis or whatever?  I know this was brought up when Ronnie was having his knee issues.  I would love to know what else happens overseas that the US restricts.

Looks like Enrique will rest Bravo, Alves, Pique, Alba, Masch, Busquets, Xavi, Messi, Neymar, & Hannibal for the cup game. Marc Bartra, Sergi Roberto, Douglas, & Montoya are expected to get a lot of playing time.

Enrique has also called up Edgar Ie, Sergio Samper, Sandro Ramirez, & Munir from the B team. I'd really like to see Edgar Le do well. He's very fast & strong CB but he still looked a little raw-rough around the edges the last time I saw him play. Barca could really use him at CB...

i would have played Suarez.. he could use the boost of scoring a few goals.
