Dude has literally nothing he's great at and should be in a 4th-7th place type team to be more confident and flourish. His confidence is down because he's around world class players who are levels above him and he'll never be as good as.
While talent was evident when he was young, he wasn't the typical Spanish prodigy that played lights out from an early age.
His break out season was the 13-14 campaign where he was the driving force in not only La Real's 4th place finish in Liga but also the Spain U21 team winning the U21 Euro championship. He was the catalyst for both club & country.
He was never going to be Xabi's replacement because the legendary Ginger was world class defensive playmaker who could defend. Illara is a speedy ball winner who passes the ball extremely well.
Illara is more Javi Martinez than Xabi Alonso. Does that make sense? He's very well versed in tiki taka which never really fit in Madrid's style.
I hope he gets moved to a club where he can play more regularly.
