Stanford Stadium sits 50K, the SJ vs LA game has been played there annually since the stadium was built and it always sells out.

Last time they played Seattle at Levis for the opening of the stadium they got 50K, they'll get less tomorrow but attendance will still be double max capacity at Avaya.

It's not just the money though the games at those venues generate exposure amongst an entirely different subset of fans. At Bush stadium it used to be 12,000 diehard earthquakes fans. I imagine it's not much different at Avaya. The games at Stanford Stadium it's kids, families, casual fans, new fans, etc. It's important.

Still think they should have spent the money and built Avaya with a capacity of +25,000. :smh:

Got it, didn't know that many people showed up to those games. Thanks.

Yea, they made it a smaller stadium because of noise complaints from nearby residents. They didn't want to have to deal with large crowd noise and the airport as well. That huge open end looks so awkward :smh:

Yeah, seen Avaya when flying into SJ. Gonna try and go to some games during the summer.

CHICAGO (May 24, 2015) - U.S. Under-23 Men’s National Team head coach Andi Herzog has named 19 players to the roster for the 2015 Toulon Tournament, which runs from May 27-June 7 in the south of France.

Herzog will make one addition to complete the 20-player roster, which will officially be submitted on Tuesday evening.

“Toulon is one of the most prestigious tournaments in the world at this age level, and we’re fortunate to have the opportunity to compete against some of the top teams in the world,” said Herzog. “Having seen matches here many times before, I know the type of talent we will face. This is huge for us as we get ready for qualification this October, and is another step in the development of our players in international competition.”

Roster By Position:

GOALKEEPERS (3): Cody Cropper (Southampton; Maple Grove, Minn.), Charlie Horton (Cardiff City; Cleveland, Ohio), Tyler Miller (Zweibrücken; Woodbury, N.J.)
DEFENDERS (7): Juan Pablo Ocegueda (Alebrijes de Oaxaca; Riverside, Calif.), Boyd Okwuonu (Real Salt Lake; Edmund, Okla.), Shane O’Neill (Colorado Rapids; Boulder, Colo.), William Packwood (Unattached; Concord, Mass.), Jalen Robinson (D.C. United; Catonsville, Md.), Dillon Serna (Colorado Rapids; Brighton, Colo.), Sam Strong (Santa Barbara; Santa Barbara, Calif.)
MIDFIELDERS (4): Fatai Alashe (San Jose Earthquakes; Northville, Mich.), Benji Joya (Santos Laguna; San Jose, Calif.), Daniel Metzger (Unattached; Holmdel, N.J.), Marc Pelosi (Liverpool; Sunnyvale, Calif.)
FORWARDS (5): Julian Green (Bayern Munich; Tampa, Fla.); Alonso Hernandez (C.F. Monterrey; El Paso, Tex.), Jerome Kiesewetter (Stuttgart; Berlin, Germany), Alfred Koroma Shams (Southlake Carol, Texas), Jordan Morris (Stanford; Mercer Island, Wash.).

The last time the U.S. competed in the Toulon Tournament came in 2013 when they sent the U-20 MNT. Seven players from that roster return for this edition of the tournament.

The tournament comprises two five-team groups. The United States is with Costa Rica, France, Netherlands and Qatar in Group A. Group B consists of China PR, England, Ivory Coast, Mexico and Morocco. The top teams from each group will meet in the final on June 7, and the second-place teams from each group will play for third place that day.

The U-23s have logged three matches in 2015 (2-1-0), opening with a 5-2 win over Bosnia and falling 0-1 to Denmark in March before bouncing back with a 3-0 win against Mexico on April 22 at the StubHub Center in Carson, Calif. The Toulon event will play a part in the team’s continued preparations for the 2015 CONCACAF Men’s Olympic Qualifying Championship, which will be played in the United States from Oct. 1-13.

Roster Notes:

Seven players from this roster were a part of the U-20 MNT which competed in the 2013 Toulon Tournament.
Eleven players from this roster were a part of the group that most recently defeated Mexico 3-0 in Carson. Cody Cropper made seven saves to earn the shutout in the game, while Jordan Morris scored a goal, and Dillon Serna and Shane O’Neill both recorded assists.
Five players were a part of the USA’s 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup team: Cody Cropper, Alonso Hernandez, Benji Joya, Juan Pablo Ocegueda, Shane O’Neill.
Jordan Morris made his first start and scored his first international goal with the senior MNT during the U.S. Men’s National Team’s 2-0 win against Mexico on April 15.
Morris is the leading goalscorer on this roster. In two matches in 2015 he has scored two goals, and overall in his four-game career with the U-23’s he has scored three times.
Juan Pablo Ocegueda, Alonso Hernandez, and Benji Joya are the most experienced players at the U-23 level, having each earned five caps.
Six players on this roster come from European clubs, five from MLS, three are from Mexico-based clubs, three are unattached and two compete at the collegiate level.
Cropper, Green, Morris, O’Neill and Serna have all been part of a U.S. MNT senior camp this year.
Julian Green played in the U.S. MNT’s Round of 16 match against Belgium in the 2014 FIFA World Cup and scored a goal, becoming the youngest player to score in a World Cup game since 2006.

PROSPECTS: Arsenal’s Duo: Yassin Fortuné & Jeff-Reine Adelaïde
RC Lens expert and journalist Romain Scheers gives you the lowdown on soon-to-be Arsenal duo Yassin Fortuné (16) and Jeff-Reine Adelaïde (17), who will join Arsène Wenger’s men for a reported €4m this summer.

Yassin Fortuné and Jeff-Reine Adelaïde are two French youth internationals and two great hopes of the La Gaillette, the RC Lens training centre, the same centre of excellence that has produced the likes of Varane, Aurier and Kondogbia.

Yassin Fortuné was born on the 30th January 1999 at Aubervilliers. His first footballing exploits occurred at Stains, a small youth team in Paris before being spotted by this season’s National Champions Red Star. At the age of 13, he joined RC Lens with the feeling in mind that “La Gaillette is one of the best youth academies in France”.

He was not one to be taken aback in awe of the opportunity in front of him however. At the age of 15, he was promoted to the RC Lens U17 side, for just one season, before alternating for the U19s this season and Lens’s reserve team. The young forward man, who possesses great technical ability and is exceptionally creative, will now realise his dream by joining Arsenal. It has been an open secret for some time that he dreamt of playing in England. Yassin Fortuné represented the France U16s ten times, scoring five goals in the process. His profile is almost identical that of Thierry Henry, both in terms of stature and in terms of attacking qualities. Fortuné, as is often the case at an early age, has been played in a number of positions, including a forward midfield role.

He very much relishes attempting take-ons, in a very similar way to Divock Origi and Raheem Sterling. He is currently considered as one of the best young talents that Lens have at their disposal, but he will have to prove it all over again in the Arsenal youth setup.

Jeff-Reine Adelaïde was born on the 17th January 1998 at Champigny-sur-Marne. At just 17 years of age, he can already say that he is a European Champion. On Friday evening, France U17s beat Germany 4-1. The last France U17s setup to achieve this feat contained Karim Benzema, Samir Nasri and Benoit Costil in it. During the final, this youngster created several chances on goal for himself, but failed to convert them. The biggest of these came after 25 minutes where he missed a very good 1-on-1 chance against German goalkeeper Fromann.

Adelaïde began his footballing career playing for his local team, before being picked out of the rough by a relatively local side in form of Torcy. With offers from several sides in France but also elsewhere in Europe, he decided to join RC Lens’ youth academy setup.

Swift, pacey and with a frightening change of pace, Adelaïde excels at beating his man. He often plays in an attacking midfield role just behind the main forward. The youngster has 9 caps with France U17s, scoring once in the process, and one cap with the U16s. At the age of just 16, he had already played 7 games of the reserve team on top of his matches with the U19s. This season, Lens boss Antoine Kombouaré, in charge of the first team, called him up the the first team squad in the 33rd game of the Ligue 1 season against Metz. He sadly did not feature during the match.

If the qualities of both of these youngsters is undeniable, nobody can predict their futures. The two players will join the famous English club on a three season deal and should, if all goes well, soon become a part of the Arsenal U21s. A truly fantastic creator of young footballing talent, the funds that RC Lens gain from these two transfer should help them to refill the coffers.

On the other hand, RC Lens are letting two of their most promising talents go before the fans even get to see them in action. A sad reality of the times.

I still think college football teams here in the US have better facilities then any other sport

Unless they renovated it within the last 6 months thats not UNITED's locker room...

Some juicy rumors today.

Real might be willing to send Navas in a deal for DDG.

Also PSG is planning on bidding for ADM soon and might also offer Van der Wiel since we're still looking for a RB and the Saints seem pretty set on keeping Clyne. The second ADM gets moved in the summer,I'll go get Memphis #7 on my currently blank shirt

Also, apparently Sevillas manager,Emery, seems to be the back up option to Rafa getting the Real job.

Glad there's some football on today. Thought I'd have to nurse this hangover alone.

Norwich and Boro both just hit the bar on screaming volleys within 30 seconds. :wow:

Real Madrid have decided not to make use of the purchase option in Javier Hernández's contract and the Mexican forward will therefore return to Manchester United. (Marca)

Chich, while getting better, seems to be a bit too limited as a player. Being a great poacher is fantastic, but one has to be more than that...

Word to El Tigre . I wouldnt mind seeing Chicha stay at OT but I doubt he wants to get his bench spot back .

Speaking of Falcao, apparently he earned £4M per goal this past season with the Reds :x :x :x. He probably would've been able to retire already if he had an average 10 goal campaign

Yea you can't ever accuse us of being cheap ala Arsenal  :x. Just hoping for smarter business during the TW this summer

I'm learning firsthand why MLS tickets are so cheap. Man this is brutal to watch, neither San Jose nor Orlando can control the ball AT ALL. Kaka is the only one who can make passes that would be assists if his teammates didn't act like they've never touched a football before

Can't even get drunk to enjoy this, 12 bucks for a decent beer at Levis Stadium adds up when you have a high tolerance

It was definitely a tough match to watch yesterday. Almost glad I didn't go to the the game. But when Kaka scored (albeit a penalty) I got those regret feels haha.

Football transfer rumours: Arsenal to sign Juventus’ Arturo Vidal?

Ah yes, the war chest – the nigh-mythical noun that only rears its gleaming, diamond-studded head every summer. Like anything truly beautiful, like the flowering of the night-blooming cereus, or the respite of a bank holiday Monday, its existence is fleeting, in this case between the end of May and the beginning of September, before it retreats from the rhetoric of lazy journalists back into the vaults of Premier League oligarchs.

A war chest is not to be sniffed at. To be handed one is a statement of intent, and with it comes great responsibility. One must spend lavishly, ideally on unheralded overseas talent. One must make a roaring start to the season. One must at least qualify for the Champions League. Because if you don’t, how on earth are you going to afford another war chest next summer? Especially with these dastardly FFP rules they’ve got nowadays.

One man who has helped his man qualify for the Champions League, and is set to receive his war chest, is Arsenal’s Arsène Wenger. He will spend lots of it on Juventus’ Arturo Vidal, who will play for Chile in this summer’s Copa America, then sign for the north London club for around the £25m mark, according to reports. Vidal’s Mr 15%, Fernando Felicevich, is also the same suit that brought another Chilean, Alexis Sánchez, to Arsenal last summer, so there a bit of narrative that we can all get behind. The box-to-box midfielder has been integral in Juve’s domestic double-winning season, and may yet sign off by adding a Champions League medal on 6 June.

Wenger will spend the remainder of his treasure on Porto’s Jackson Martínez. The striker has a £25m release clause in his contract and after scoring 28 goals in 38 appearances in all competitions this season, Arsenal are keener than a dog on heat to secure his services for next season. Portuguese paper Jornal de Notícias claim that a deal has already been agreed in principle, with Martínez’s personal terms yet to be thrashed out.

Liverpool rumours are a fickle business at the moment now that Brendan Rodgers might be booking a one-way ticket on the Merseyside cruise line Do One, but the general consensus is that Aston Villa’s Christian Benteke may move to Anfield. The Belgian has two years to run on his contract but the Mirror says Liverpool will use Rickie Lambert as bait to tempt Tim Sherwood into selling, which is an image worth savouring.

Following Borussia Dortmund’s signing of Gonzalo Castro from Bayer Leverkusen, Manchester United have stepped up their interest in Ilkay Gundogan. Louis van Gaal likes the cut of the German’s jib, and would apparently cost around £20m.

Elsewhere, Tottenham have been seduced by the blond locks of Celta Vigo’s Michael Krohn-Dehli, who is available for a free transfer this summer, and Bournemouth are looking at both Crystal Palace’s Dwight Gayle and Sunderland’s Jermain Defoe, who had a loan spell at the south coast club way back in 2001. That’s your lot.

Strong reports coming out that Perez has sacked Carlo. :smh:

 @ Rafa... Should be a strong year for not only Barca, but Atleti, Valencia, & Sevilla.

Rafa is a well prepared manager, but he has problems with players which has been his undoing at each of his jobs. He has no idea what kind of locker room he's coming into.

I thought Carlo did an admirable job despite the locker problems & supporter expectations (amidst the injuries late campaign). I think the one mistake Carlo made was not rotating his players enough to keep his bench players in form but that might have been due to Perez making Carlo play the players Perez wanted.
