Apparently the next few items on the agenda for Man U are getting Daley Blind and Nigel de Jong signed before the tw ends. That would probably end up being the best tw haul in a good while if they do find a way to get all these deals done.

The Mikel saga...

On 29 April 2005, a few days after Mikel turned 18, Premier League club Manchester United announced that it had struck a deal with the Norwegian club Lyn Oslo to sign the player.[10] United's website also claimed that they had done a deal directly with the teenager and that he had signed a contract to join them. Mikel's agents were bypassed as the club persuaded the youngster to sign a four-year contract without representation. Lyn Oslo allegedly sent a fax to his agents abroad, claiming their services were no longer required by Mikel. Reports said the deal was initially worth £4 million,[11] and would see the player arrive at Old Trafford in January 2006.

Manchester United's rival Premier League club, Chelsea, later issued a counter-claim suggesting that they already had an agreement with Mikel and his agents, but Lyn Oslo denied this claim. However, subsequent reports indicated that Chelsea claimed to have been involved in arranging the player's original move to Europe with a view to signing him at a later date. Further substance was added to this claim after it was revealed that the player had impressed Chelsea manager José Mourinho while training with the club's first-team squad during the summer of 2004.

Mikel expressed his delight at joining United in a hastily arranged press conference, where he was pictured holding up a Manchester United shirt, which bore the squad number 21.[12] Following his signing of the contract to join Manchester United, there were claims from Norway that he had received a number of threatening phone calls from unknown sources. Mikel was assigned a security guard and moved to a safe hotel. However, on 11 May 2005, the midfielder went missing during a Norwegian Cup game against Klemetsrud; he had not been selected for the match but had been watching from the stands. Whilst the player was believed to have left with one of his agents, John ****tu, who had by now flown in to meet Mikel, his disappearance sparked massive media coverage in Norway and also provoked a police enquiry after the Lyn Oslo director Morgan Andersen made claims in the Norwegian media that Mikel had been 'kidnapped'. These claims were later repeated by Manchester United's assistant manager Carlos Queiroz, who accused Chelsea of being involved in the alleged 'kidnapping'.[13]

It subsequently emerged that Mikel had travelled to London with his agent John ****tu, who was working for Jerome Anderson's SEM group.[14] Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson considered travelling to Oslo to visit Mikel, but decided against this after Mikel was reported to have left the country.[15] Staying in a London hotel, and some nine days after disappearing, Mikel stated on Sky Sports News that he had been pressured into signing the contract with United without his agent present, claims furiously rebuffed by both Manchester United and Lyn Oslo.[16] Mikel told the British media that Chelsea were the club he genuinely wanted to sign for. In response to these events, United made an official complaint to FIFA about the behaviour of both Chelsea and the player's agents, John ****tu and Rune Hauge, already infamous for his role in the George Graham bungs scandal.[17] FIFA dismissed these claims in August 2005 stating there was insufficient evidence to bring a case against Chelsea.

Following the tournament, Mikel failed to return to Lyn Oslo, and the club lodged a complaint with FIFA. On 12 August 2005, FIFA ruled that Mikel should return to Lyn Oslo to see out his contract with the Norwegian club, whilst they would decide at a later date whether the contract he signed with United should be upheld or cancelled.[18][19] After a delay of over a month, Mikel complied with the FIFA decision and returned to Lyn Oslo in early September 2005 after a three-month absence.

This is crazy.

I was hoping for Khedira...

Hind site being what it is, United are lucky that Mikel didn't come to the club... He's scored like 1 or 2 goals in 200+ appearances over the years...

Gex, I think both are huge loss (di Maria & Khedira ) in terms of team chemistry/camaraderie & performance/output on the pitch.

If these moves do happen, Kroos better fill in big & the young guys like Isco, James, & Illarramendi have to step up & contribute. Modric will be counted on more than ever too...

Madrid doesn't have a Khedira type on their bench where as Jese can be looked at to fill the Di maria role eventually. Kroos is good but he is more a Xabi replacement than a Khedira.

Good to see you in here Ro... Didn't you move recently? All settled in?

Hope to see you in the thread throughout the new campaign... :D

I wonder how Barca will finish in the transfer window...

I didn't get to pay attention to the game today as I was watching the Malaga vs Athletic game, but how did Alexis look today Gooners?

only played the first half. wasn't too effective up top alone. no one really could get him the ball. he needs to play down a bit with G up front

Madrid better hope they win the league or cl this season. As someone said madrid as basically made lateral moves..but messing up team chemistry might come into play.

Too many additions to win the CL this season, the league I can see since barca will have to adjust to a new system but Alt will give them a run for their money.

di maria signing will be dumb, where does rooney play in a 433? where do the cam's play? 352 is the way to go and even then there STILL isnt enough room on the team for everyone, di maria isnt coming guys lay off it, united need a DM and another experienced CB

Glazers may appoint a director of football to oversee transfer business at Manchester United. [mirror]

Too many? only had two guys come in though.

At a club as big as United, how can anyone think someone who only has business acumen be able to run the football side of the operation?

If you think about it also, how hard is it to get sponsors at a club like United anyway? Companies are lined up wanting to business with you & you really just have to pick & choose....

You had two guys come in, that have to get playing tiime. Di Maria, the engine of Madrid, is leaving and Khedira wants out. Kroos needs time to adjust to the team and the team needs time to adjust to him, James will have to play based on the transfer fee and that will be on a learning curve. Not strong enough to go for the double.

True. But you can argue the same last season with Bale/Isco coming in and losing ozil/gonz/callejon.

Do players have any respect for Arsene Wenger?

Serious Question: do you think this dude has any control?

Alexis is trying to push the players to press, some respond, some don't. Arsenal are flat out lost out there. WTF is Wenger doing.

Most of the players say they signed to Arsenal because of Wenger.

I'm not sure why he started Ozil out on the left, especially against such a strong RB. Seeing the lineup on twitter, I thought Jack was going to be on the left. Also considering that Monreal isn't as good as a defender as Gibbs and at times he does need help. I certainly wasn't expecting a 4-1-4-1 formation.

During the first half, I thought Jack was better than Ramsey. Ramsey was giving away too many balls.
I think OX was solid. He was our best attacker for most of the game, certainly in the first half. He was getting into good positions, he was the only one getting into good positions in the first half. But his finishing was poor.

I really enjoyed seeing Alexis track back and defend. But overall we have some defensive work to do, obviously.

Kostas Manolas was left out the Olympiakos squad today. As for Podolski, idk what the situation is but it sounds like he's on his way out.
Manolas would be a great pick up, along with a CDM. If Podolski leaves and with Giroud injured, I would like to see another #9 come in....that might be a reach tho

Giroud stretched his ankle, Wenger said it doesn't look good.

Never forget

That saga slowly started my dislike for the blues :smh:

Wait so this dude Mikel put on a Manchester. United jersey on before Chelsea got him?

Ramsey was so close to signing to United and Wenger snatched him from them :pimp:
