It's pre season but... we looked like dog water yesterday, even made Ashley Young look decent out there.

Our midfield looked horrible, so slow, not completing the right passes to the guys up front.

Isco serves better as a mid. That false 9 position isn't really working for him, I was really hoping it would.

Like a friend and a fellow NTer was saying, we can't have both Xabi Alonso and Illaramendi out there at the same time.

Pepe and Ramos were looking lost half the time, losing sight of the ball.

I hate to say it but, Iker is so bad now. :\

Only good thing from yesterday is seeing how scary Bale is going to be this season, just watch. :smokin

Word is Navas will be announced here soon.

Edit: there we go.

After a whirl wind weekend, finally got to watch the Nice vs Barca game from my DVR. Enrique started with a 4-3-3; ter Stegen in goal along with Chief Oompa Loompa & Mathieu in the center flanked by Montoya & Alba. Busquets, Rafa, & Sergi Roberto in the midfield & Pedro in a false 9 flanked by Traore & Don Iniesta.

Once the game began, the formation started looking like a Dutch/LvG 3-5-2 with Busquets dropping back to defend & Iniesta slotted in. Barca didn't look like they had their legs yet. They had trouble whenever they wanted to press & failed to keep possession. Everyone looked a little rusty too except for ter Stegen who made some nice saves. Chief Oompa Loompa committed the games dumbest foul which led to Nice's first score on a penalty. He was also the first player fined under Enrique's new rules (go figure).

In the second half, Enrique took off Chief Oompa Loompa, Busquets, Roberto, Rafa, Traore, Pedro, & Iniesta. He brought on Bartra, Sergi Samper, Xavi, Rakitic, Munir El Haddadi, Deulofeu, & Halilovic. You could see an immediate change of temp with this group.

Halilovic looked really good as did Samper in a holding role. With Halilovic occupying the right & Gerry on the left, Nice had a tough time keeping either contained. Rakitic looked really good distributing the ball as did Xavi. One thing that disappointed me was that you could see the old Gerry come back, he was hogging the ball quite a bit & missed some opportunities to hit some wide open teammates on some goals that could've been tapped in.

I wasn't too worried about the fitness of the first group though, Nice starts their Ligue Un opener next week while La Liga is like 3 weeks away. So far, Im really impressed with the play of Rakitic & also impressed with Halilovic too. Also liked seeing Traore out on the pitch too. That kid is so fast & always looking to attack. Hope he gets a shot sometime soon.

Edit - Found this vid on Barca's YT page. Not full highlights though...

Forgot to post this yesterday, from Zenit's 4:0 opening day victory against newly promoted Arsenal Tula (Skip to 1:10 for the best):

Mario Balotelli’s agent ‘in talks with Liverpool over AC Milan transfer’

Mario Balotelli’s agent is reportedly in talks with Liverpool over a £14m move from AC Milan.

According to Italian broadcasters Mediaset, Mino Raiola – who represents the Italy striker – has already begun negotiating a deal for his client to move to the Anfield outfit this summer.

A report on the media giants’ website claims that the Reds see Balotelli as a perfect replacement for Luis Suarez, who completed a £75m move to Spanish giants Barcelona in July.

AC Milan are keen to sell the 23-year-old to raise funds for the purchase of players, and would be willing to listen to offers in the region of £14m to £16m for the former Manchester City forward.

^ Rodgers already was quoted as saying balo isn't coming to liverpool.

Forgot to mention it earlier but, what's wrong with Carvajal?

Seems to have turned into a bigger hot head. So young and already going for his opponents heads during pre season matches.

I like his intensity but he's becoming a liability.

What a difference a new manager makes...

Not only are United passing and moving like a football team again, LVG did the hardest thing of them all....turned Ashley Young into a footballer...

Balo is phenomenonally talented & skilled but a manager & sporting director has to be pretty stupid to take him now.

 maybe he can come to MLS...

balo is a discrete footballer, nothing phenomenal about him. His work rate is below par and at his current age that is a sign he will never become what the media are expecting hyping him to be or become. The guy should fade back out of the limelight quietly, as people are tired of his ish.
