Fox announcer just called Rickie Lambert a world class forward. Not sure about that one. Rodgers is really screaming on the touch line, can hear every word.

Arsenal's original €30 mill bid for William Carvalho was supposedly rejected not because of the price but because Wenger essentially wanted put him on layaway...

Wenger wanted to pay the €30 mill in installments but he's apparently prepared to pay the full amount right away.

Its not out of the norm though...

...
Real are well known for being keen to pay their transfer fees in instalments – hence why Tottenham are still owed money for Luka Modric and while Real's debt is often quoted as €590m and they remain under investigation by the European Commission over a land deal with the city council, that figure measures their entire liabilities.

...

Real signed Modric in installments. It was reported they wanted to pay for Bale installments aswell but Levy didnt want that, thus why they were willing to sell us Ozil as our large cash reserves allowed us to give them 42.5m in one payment to help pay Levy/Spurs...only for him to blow it on bums like Soldado . Barca didnt pay us in one lump sum upfront when they singed Cesc (apparently they still owed us/were paying off Hleb and Henry at the time aswell.) so I wouldn't be surprised if they were "making payments" on Alex Song aswell.

Sporting may want the money all up front Carvalho but wherever/whoever reported that "layaway" bs was just trying to use the tired Scrooge McArsene one last time as Wenger is clearly shedding that perception the last two summers and paying in payments isn't out of the norm for large transfer fees at big clubs.

^ I know installments are done, I just found it amusing that Wenger (being the penny pincher he's been) wanted to put Carvalho on layaway...

My squad is in for a rough year with everyone they lost

and they just sold oscar cardozo to trabzonspor. why? was benfica looking to sell him or did this just come out of nowhere?

i do like their new kits. both the home and away. always wanted to buy one but didnt like the past designs. once my giftcards arrive from soccer.com, i'll get one for almost half off.

If Kroos plays in the middle as the holding-defensive midfielder, isn't James better off centrally in the No. 10 hole as opposed to out-wide as an outside mid?
Still Israel Gutierrez's doppelganger.

I agree with you, he should play some type of central role. He can still do that in a 4-3-3. I guess it's be like a 4-2-1-3 if you break it down enough. That's what I think Carlo will do, but it'll still be labeled as his "4-3-3" if that makes any sense.

Yeah I know you know psk, it was directed at the person who made that story/claim and to also just pass some knowledge out to the people new to the sport in this thread.

With the insane rise in transfer fees these days (Bale, Suarez, Luiz , James etc) and it looking like they are only going to keep getting more crazy I just dont want people to think that in all cases clubs have the money to pay these huge fees outright upfront. I'd imagine in most cases they dont as just in Barca's dealings with Arsenal all of Hleb, Henry, Cesc and Song were all payed in installments.

Thats also why I understand Wenger trying to convince Sporting to take the potential fee in installments for Carvalho too as our large cash reserves allow us to take advantage of clubs looking to sell players (Real and Barca recently with Ozil and Sanchez) to deal with us over other suitors as they may need money in one lump sum to sign their new targets, which we can provide, while we grab they amazing "cast offs". :nthat:

He's not. The term world-class is used far too loosely when describing footballers. Lambert is a very good striker.

To one of your points, there was some writing on the wall Daglish's last big window with LFC could crumble in his face. Adam, Downing, Henderson, etc. But I didn't see Spurs' big window flopping like it did. With Soldado, Eriksen, Chadli, Dembele, Lamela, among others. Maybe just too much new blood to fit on the pitch. Hard to mesh personalities in the locker room and playing styles on the ground. No chemistry, cohesion, camaraderie from Tottenham last campaign.

It was inevitable that Cardozo would go. It's been rumored for about 3 seasons. He is a very good classic striker who pouches around the goal. I'm not sad or happy to see him go but Benfica looking for cash considering one of their big sponsors BES is in need of cash to keep the bank alive.

Marquez to Hellas Verona, RANDOM move yo, but I dig it :smokin

he wasn't performing at his usual level last season tho.

It doesn't even matter, the squad is in deep ****.

88 mill debt smh...

>Artur as goalie
>Garay is sol for 6 mill
>Rumors that enzo might leave
>Rodrigo to spain
>Oblak left

I know most of yall don't care much about this because A) its Sacramento, B) its MLS C) Its Chivas USA

but I'm like 99% sure Chivas USA is gonna get sold to the Sacramento Kings owners and relocated to Sacto....

I'm cautiously excited......

:smokin

I definitely care, been trying hard to get a job in some sort of capacity with Republic FC. Currently interning with USLPRO in Tampa hoping that gives me the extra edge. But I also interviewed for a PR position with the Kings after new ownership took over and didn't get the position |I heres to hoping my soccer experience would get me in

Florida smh

Btw liverpool kits are such trash.
This yellow kit isn't bad.
Nothing wrong with the color... the red line just makes it look a bit weird to me...

Yeah there is always the comparison to Liverpool under King Kenny with what Spurs did last summer and your right and as a Arsenal fan as much as I hope it blows up in their face to the same level there isnt a player to the some crappiness of the level of Carroll and/or Downing (Henderson has come good tbf to him). Both players are English and played in the EPL prior to their moves (not like they came from a lower or foreign league) where you can maybe say that Soldado and Lamela etc have an excuse because he came from foreign leagues and they had trouble adjusting to the EPL last season. Still both of them have a long way to go to justify their price tags.

With all that said to me it doesn't matter who Spurs sign the will continue to be heid back under Levy. He expects soo much, EPL titles and **** apparently, with they quickness that he sacks managers. He likes unsettling and undermining his own club's long term success. Long may it continue! I actually really liked Tim Sherwood. He has passion and wasn't afraid to tell it like it is regardless what the media would say. Extra refreshing. Had the best win percentage for a Spurs manager...sacked in less than a year over a couple of hammerings against a couple sides who are in a different level to them. Now he's no longer a Tottenham manager I will root for him wherever he gets another chance.

A bit of a mis-control by Shinji, which actually worked out well for Lingard... !

I'm with you on Levy getting in his own way, too hands-on and often a detriment to his club. To your point about Sherwood, I actually like(d) Villas-Boas as a manager. Albeit he's stubborn with tactics and handling players. Maybe I'm holding onto his Porto days too much, but AVB has a ripe chance for redemption on Zenit in the '14 campaign.

Random thought of the day: How far the mighty have fallen in relation to Gael Kakuta? Young Chelsea starlet to a loan spell this campaign at Rayo Vallecano. Former Drogba protege, still only 23.

Chelsea don't care about young talent, despite boasting one of the premier academies.

Also the thing with Portugese clubs is a lot of em rather not be paid in installments because they usually need the money immediately to cover other loses like missing out on Europe.
