Good **** Pabs, got it in right before I shut down my computer

We are now complete!

Once again, any roster moves should be completed before 5 PM ET next Friday 10/10/14. Post them in here please.

Also get your lineups (against RHP's and LHP's), bullpen, rotation and defense by next Friday 10/10/14 at 5PM ET.

Good **** guys.

:pimp:

Remember folks, we are still doing a sort of vote for best teams as well.

You may NOT vote for your own team, but merely 3-5 teams you think are the best. You can PM them to me or Pro, or Champ, or you can post them in here clearly, however you'd like.

Again, do not vote for your own squad, this is merely to find a consensus of who might do the best in the sims, before we actually run the sims.

Good stuff to everyone involved and to those who did that much extra (Pro, CP, and Champ) to move things along :pimp: .

We did it for you Pabs :pimp: thank you for swinging things back in a timely fashion.

Another thank you to Jewbacca and ECook. Your shenanigans were entertaining.

I went with the opposite of CP's approach early on. Instead of going after pitching, I went after power since I know that's become a premium in today's game. Jose Abreu, Adrian Gonzalez and Manny Machado give me some really good pop. Then I sprinkled in some guys that get on base, that hit the gaps, that could develop some more power.

I picked up a lot of guys that have the ability to play multiple positions and I intend to give every one of my starters a day off once a week since I feel like there's pretty good depth all around. I'm running platoons at LF, 2B and C (Upton and Nimmo, Odor and Flores, Salty and Hedges), and I've got guys like Chone Figgins and Danny Santana that I could plug in two or three different spots. I'm gonna make sure Cecchini gets some at bats at 3rd, DH and maybe even 2B if he's up to it. Flores will play short once or twice a week and Santana may man center field a little to give Arismendy a blow.

Pitching, I had an idea of who I wanted from the get go. I knew Wheeler and DeGrom were must haves for my plan, followed by two lefties. I wanted a shut down lefty which I got in Ryu and I wanted someone consistent and young for 4th spot and Smyly is a tremendous fit there. I'm gonna opt to give Alex Meyer the 5th spot, but Bundy will get his chances to start. He'll slowly be worked into the big leagues with time. I picked up Bedard as an insurance policy for that 5 spot and long relief. Turner could have some decent upside if things start clicking. And I'm a big fan of the Family Man and Mejia's stuff.

Lineup will be

Vs Lefties

SS Danny Santana
2B Wilmer Flores
RF Nick Markakis
DH Jose Abreu
1B Adrian Gonzalez
3B Manny Machado
CF Arismendy Alcantara
LF BJ Upton
C Austin Hedges

Vs Righties
SS Danny Santana
CF Arismendy Alcantara
RF Nick Markakis
DH Jose Abreu
1B Adrian Gonzalez
3B Manny Machado
LF Brandon Nimmo
C Salty
2B Rougned Odor

I feel like I have a good balance of veteran leadership and youth and I think my team could be a competitor for decent amount of time.

Selecting Ryu in the third round really hurt my pitching outlook more than you know. Thought long and hard about taking the Korean beast in R2 or R3 over Wacha and/or Cole. Really hoped he would fall to R4, didn't love Homer Bailey at that point but took him anyway out of stubbornness. Ryu was ideally the key lefty arm I wanted to balance out the righty-heavy trio of Darvish, Cole, Wacha.

Homer or not, deGrom could end up being the biggest steal years down the road. He's looking more like a #2 than #3, as initially expected or projected. If I had to predict a career path, I'd take deGrom over Wheeler due to the latter's shaky and inconsistent command.

Smyly looks revived in Tampa, Detroit wasn't the optimal location for him. His last 6-7 starts to end the 2014 season were golden. Yet another competent lefty to balance out your rotation. Solid #4.

Lastly, you know I know about and like Meyer and Bundy. Although Bundy hasn't exactly been the same post-TJ.

be easy be easy :
This dude is like a brotha to me. We spent all Thursday night discussing redraft, crushing Sammy's, and enjoying playoff baseball. Shared my board with him, friendly rivalry like Beane and Dombrowski's arms race.

You know I liked the Juan Francisco pick in R17. 27, power bat late in the redraft. "Baby Pedro" was a hard one to let go, but you had to nab him in the 10th round. Power arm, crazy potential. Starter, long reliever, closer. Whatever you want.

I was puzzled Liriano slipped to R11. I get he didn't match his 2013 production by any means and the walks were slightly back up, but he's a #3 at worst.

Stacked your bullpen too, my dude. Feliz and Herrera throwing absolute gas leading into Britton. While Watson was one of the most valuable but least heralded bullpen arms in the NL, for Pittsburgh.

Alfaro is going to take Trav's job by 2016-2017. Has Hedges' defensive level, with a much better bat. If I had to nitpick, I would have went Lagares over Blackmon. His glove is too nice and he finally started hitting this year. Nuno AP was a bummer, but it happens.

C CP1708 :
There's no question you're stacked defensively. We shared a very similar draft strategy, but you executed better in regards to OF defense. I had Lagares and Simmons cued from day one, two of the best defensive players in the game regardless of position. People that don't watch the Mets regularly don't understand how good Juan Lagares actually is in the field. I'm talking best CF in baseball. No exaggeration, and he started hitting to create a monster, more well-rounded player.

Offensively, you leveraged a lot into future power. Bryant (R4) and Gallo (R6) mashed in the minors, but you do have to accept some risk in how either or both translate to the majors. Also went JBJ a tad early, but I assume he was too tempting. Embarrassing luxury when you can slide Bradley, Jr., to a corner OF position due to Lagares' defensive prowess. You essentially have 3 CF with Inciarte being the third. Has no pop, but will swipe you 25 bags with excellent defensive displays at a corner OF position.

I do take exception to your belief that you own the clear-cut dominant pitching trio in the redraft. Darvish, Cole, and Wacha are younger and have shown flashes of effectiveness in the postseason, which mattered a lot to me when building my redraft board. There were a lot of talented staffs accumulated. P proshares and @Jewbacca, I'm looking at you. But back to CP, know you think highly of Rodon and Owens but right now you can't say either are better than Cobb or Bailey, which are my #4 and #5 to round out the rotation.

Regardless you meshed elite defense with youthful power. I want to see this redraft simulation go beyond one season, and that possibility could bode well for your energetic squad.

NT MLB Redraft
“Flashy Friedmans” – Chicago White Sox

Evaluation Process:
From the moment Bobby floated the brilliant MLB redraft idea, I made up my mind to establish elite starting pitching. Early and often. Most recently, Jon Lester was crucial to Boston’s surprising 2013 World Series run. As a lead ace, straight horse for the Red Sox and John Farrell to lean on. If you look at Boston’s opponent, Mike Matheny had a plethora of options to trot out after “Waino.” Wacha made his mark as NLCS MVP, Lynn and Kelly were no slouches. Although the misuse of Miller was puzzling. Similarly in 2012 the San Francisco Giants swept Detroit on the strength of Zito, “MadBum,” Vogelsong, and Matty Cain. In 2011, Texas and St. Louis flaunted good pitching matchups with the exception of bullpen games in G3 and G6.

Did I execute my intended strategy, in direct relation to starting pitching? Yes, although at times in the redraft I got greedy with stockpiling arms when other positions of need were more pressing, predominantly offensively. My second priority was stout infield defense. I wanted players that are good with the glove to support my high-octane rotation. Perhaps the third area of stress was speed on the basepaths. What Kansas City is doing now to the Angels is what I envision my ideal offense producing. Manufacturing runs by grinding. Swiping bags, hit-and-runs, sacrifice bunts to advance runners. It’s clear my lineup lacks traditional firepower.
One area I’m extremely critical of myself is the outfield. I’m very fortunate you guys are cool and supportive to allow the Yasmani Tomas selection, because I dropped the ball especially defensively in the outfield after Leonys Martin as a centerpiece.

Round 1: Yu Darvish, RHP.
Other potential selections: Giancarlo Stanton, Chris Sale, Paul Goldschmidt.
These are literally the only four names I entertained at 7th overall. The general consensus seems to be in favor of a higher pick, I actually wanted a later selection to challenge myself. In the low-20’s or so. The right play, I suppose, would have been Stanton. Monster, MVP-caliber season. Massive power. Only 24-years-old.
Gave slight pause to Goldschmidt, although he regressed and missed a significant portion of 2014. Didn’t reflect the same power as 2013, but how can you not like a 6’3’’, 245-pound guy swiping nearly 20 bags a season while producing 100 RBI with relative ease. Arizona as a whole tanked this season, not all on “Goldy’s” shoulders.
Lastly, I was severely tempted by Sale. Power lefty arm. Ridiculously low WHIP, and ERA in ’14. Racks up strikeouts without a sweat. Here’s why I didn’t pick him: I cautioned a55 not to rely only or too heavily on the simulation, in real-life, Sale’s throwing motion worries me with injury risk. What good is a power ace if he potentially can’t last deep into October?
Perhaps I’m a bit biased, Darvish is one of my favorite players in the league. Don’t like that he mailed it a bit on Texas this year, nursing the injury. Saying he could pitch if it was the postseason. He also can’t beat the A’s, but that’s of no consequence to me in a redrafted league. Turned 28 in the summer. He’s come close numerous times to throwing sparkling gems. Although only 2 CG and 1 SHO to show for his efforts, both in 2014. Big, strong frame. Struck out 277 batters in 2013. Also, I factored in playoff performance. His lone postseason start vs. Baltimore, took the L but I’ll take 2 ER over 6.2 IP (7 K) in a playoff debut. Plethora of pitches to select from, process took a while narrowing down his best options.

Round 2: Michael Wacha, RHP.
Other potential selections: Gerrit Cole, Cole Hamels, Hyun-Jin Ryu.
I really wanted Sonny Gray at this point, but he was unfortunately nabbed earlier.
Wanted a lefty arm, and I’m partial to Ryu. His funny relationship with Juan Uribe is entertaining, devouring food at buffets. He’s 27 and doesn’t allow the ball to leave the park often. I was seriously pissed when JRS nabbed him.
Hamels is 7-4 in the playoffs. That matters to me a whole lot. Seemingly good for 200+ IP since ’07 or ’08.
Couldn’t decide between Wacha and Cole, happy to nab both. Although admittedly got a little greedy with young arms.
Why Wacha? Only 23. Tall, big frame. Plus changeup. High release point. Took the 2013 postseason by storm.

Round 3: Gerrit Cole, RHP.
Other potential selections: Yordano Ventura, George Springer.
Ventura really is “Baby Pedro” despite the earlier comparison given to Jenrry Mejia and Carlos Martinez. Electric velocity, perfect timing throwing a picturesque G2 vs. Angels.
Springer showed us a brief power surge. Consistency will come with time and age.
Cole utilizes a powerful fastball. Doesn’t issue a lot of walks, or HR for that matter. 3 ER in 11 IP, two postseason starts. I like it. He also showed up in a big way when Pittsburgh needed him most. 4 wins in September. 8 runs in his last four starts of the regular season.

Round 4: Homer Bailey, RHP.
Other notable selections: Jason Kipnis, Ian Desmond.
Preferred Mat Latos to Bailey, honestly.
I was tempted by Desmond’s rare power for the position, a shallow position.
Kipnis would be a slight homer pick as an Indians fan, hoping he regains his 2013 form. The power decline is alarming, thus I decided to past.
One of my least favorite personal picks in the redraft. Bailey will never be the elite pitcher we expected from 2004 when he was selected 7th overall. He’s only given 200+ IP twice in his career. Already 28. 46 HR allowed from 2012-2013. Never won more than 13 games. Although he did throw a 7-inning gem against San Francisco in 2012. But hey, he’s my #5 starter.

Round 5: Alex Cobb, RHP.
Other notable selections: Andrew Cashner, Alex Wood, Matt Carpenter.
Like Carpenter’s versatility at 2B and 3B. Good hitter. Drew career-high 95 walks this season. Doesn’t swipe bags though, which doesn’t fit my speed model.
Wood pitched well this season. Sub-3.00 ERA. Just felt R5 was too early. A lot of room to grow at 23, perhaps I prefer him to Bailey if I had a redo.
Cobb outdueled Salazar to my chagrin at “the Jake” in 2013. His production skyrocketed with Price’s departure. He’s ready to be Tampa’s ace. From July on, Cobb was mistake-free. Damn near flawless for my taste, given limited run support from the Rays.

Round 6: Eric Hosmer, 1B.
Other notable selections: Wil Myers.
Myers went top of the round so I had no choice in the matter. Hosmer is strong defensively, shows flashes of pop. G2 HR in extras right on cue. Capable of swiping bags if necessary. 24-years-old.

Round 7: Brett Lawrie, 3B.
Other notable selections: Shelby Miller.
Dead serious, I wanted another pitcher. Breakout 2013 campaign, only 23. The youth was alluring.
Lawrie presents 2B and 3B versatility, similar to “Carp” earlier. Wanted a good arm at the “hot corner.” Only knock is he can’t stay healthy. Can run if needed. Pop in his bat.

Round 8: Jean Segura, SS.
Other notable selections: Juan Lagares.
This is where I had Lagares pegged. Thought Be Easy or JRS might snipe, as Mets fans but of course it had to be CP with the similar redraft strategy. Best defensive CF in the game, and his hitting is vastly improving.
Okay, I know I’m not getting the ’13 version of Segura. But he plays plus defense at short. His son died and he accepted his plate struggles like a man. Capable of 35+ SB a season, easy. Probably not a double-digit homer guy the rest of the way, but I just want him batting closer to .275 than .250.

Round 9: Danny Salazar, RHP.
Other notable selections: Marcell Ozuna.
Ozuna has a cannon in LF. Threw out two of the Mets in one game, I vividly remember. Free swinger, but shows pop.
I had big plans for Salazar, don’t know how he slipped past the other Cleveland guys. Forgettable 2014. But at 24, with only 30 career starts, I’m moving him into the bullpen to close out games with heat.

Round 10: Jason Castro, C.
Other notable selections: Carlos Martinez.
Had I not taken Salazar a round earlier, “Baby Pedro” would have been it. He’s not fulfilling his potential quite like I imagined, or as quickly, but he’s 23 and still learning to maximize his pitching makeup.
Castro’s good behind the plate and dependable for 15-18 HR a season, hopefully more because I need his offense.

Round 11: Kolten Wong, 2B.
Other notable selections: J.D. Martinez, Francisco Liriano.
Martinez has transformed his swing into one of the better hitters in the AL.
Liriano is still a #3 at worst falling pretty low if I may say so.
I’ve been tracking this kid since the minors, couldn’t let him pass me. Plays stellar defense, although the errors are puzzling. Double-digit HR is a bonus. Swiped 20 bags this season. I’m happy in the 11th round.

Round 12: Tony Cingrani, LHP.
Other notable selections: Derek Holland.
He’s the lefty arm I wanted, Holland. Came off the DL and gave sterling performances right off the bat. Humorous guy, good clubhouse presence to unwind.
Cingrani relies heavily on his fastball, no adequate second pitch. Moving him to the bullpen, my first lefty on the entire pitching staff.

Round 13: Leonys Martin, CF.
Other notable selections: Mookie Betts.
The Red Sox should not trade this kid, not even for an arm. Just pay for Kenta Maeda. 21, versatile defender and runs well.
Martin is one of the better defensive OF’s in the game. I suppose he fell because there’s question of how good his bat really is. Swipes 30+ bags for my strategy of small ball. Should really be producing 10 HR per season.

Round 14: Nick Franklin, OF.
Other notable selections: Mike Moustakas, 3B.
“Moose” has a good glove and a big, powerful swing. Although his OBP is horrendous.
Like Franklin’s versatility, moving him to RF. He played like a game there for Seattle. Not the strongest arm in the world, but took him for his switch-hitting bat. I don’t know if the beefed up version helped his hitting at all.

Round 15: Jeremy Hellickson, RHP.
Other notable selections: Kelvin Herrera, Brad Miller.
Herrera throws gas, wanted the electric arm out the pen. Had a great season alongside Holland and Davis.
Miller is better than he showed in 2014. Kept thinking he would redeem himself like Seager did after a slow start.
“Hell Boy” is a former ROY, probably his best season. Won 35 games in three-year stretch. Utilizing him as my long reliever. Light playoff experience against Texas and Boston.

You do certainly have a nice lineup, no question there, what does your staff/pen look like? And I assume you have someone decent backing up Hanley just in case?

Thank you, sir. Appreciate it. Jonathan Villar and Darwin Barney are my backups in case of a Hanley injury. My staff rounds out like this:

1. Matt Harvey RHP
2. Rick Porcello RHP
3. Francisco Liriano LHP
4. Mike Minor LHP
5. Jhoulys Chacin RHP or Rafael Montero RHP

Out of the pen I have, Neftali Feliz, Kelvim Herrera RHP, Zach Britton LHP, Tony Watson LHP, and Carlos Martinez RHP. I tried to stack as many power arms in the late innings as I could. I have Feliz and/or Herrera ready if Britton falters. Baby Pedro is going to be used in a middle relief role for now. Watson was a steal in the later rounds. He was an All Star this year, and went under a lot of peoples radars in this draft. Definitely built my team for the current season and a few years beyond. What do you think?

champcruthik champcruthik My brother coming through with the detailed analysis like always. I got the in person rundown over a few beers this week, but still enjoyed reading your pick by pick thought process.

Hard to believe this spanned over two months. Was a fun process!

Here's my lineups/rotation:

RHP: Pagan-Me.Cabrera-A. Ramirez-LaRoche-Pence-Morrison (DH)-Ianetta-Infante-Hechavarria

LHP: Pagan-Me.Cabrera-A.Ramirez-Pence-LaRoche-Ianetta-Cron(DH)-Infante-Hechavarria

Rotation: Bumgarner-Ross-De La Rosa-Norris-Morton

I think top to bottom, both lineups are well balanced with guys that get on base, don't strikeout too much. Pagan/Melky at the top sets things up nicely for my 3-4-5 guys to drive them in, I really like my 8-9 guys for turning the lineup over to the top as well. Defensively, outfield is strong across the board, infield defense is nearly as good. Bench guys have versatility to play multiple positions, pinch-hitting opps I have solid options.

Rotation is filled with strike throwers sans De Le Rosa, feel great with Bum/Ross as my 1-2. Bullpen is strong with lefties/righties, with Benoit in the 8th and Rosenthal in the 9th.

Getting the 8[sup]th[/sup] pick, Stanton is who I wanted from the jump. Outside from Trout and Kershaw, Stanton was 3[sup]rd[/sup] player on my board. 6’5 chiseled frame, rocket arm and power for days. With power at a premium in the league these days, the best pure power in the game was a no brainer. From there I went a tad different, I went with players with pedigrees and flat out the highest rated players in the Show. The picks of Justin Verlander (93 rating, 6[sup]th[/sup] overall pitcher), Dustin Pedroia (94 rating, 2[sup]nd[/sup] overall 2B), David Wright (90 overall, 3[sup]rd[/sup] overall 3B), and Elvis Andrus (86 overall, 6[sup]th[/sup] overall SS) gave me a good core of highly rated players that can be the strength of my team; veterans in the line up to supplement the youngster. When approaching the rest of my rotation, I wanted to buy low on some arms who missed the 2013 season with injuries, with injuries not a factor, I was not worried on any long term injuries. With that being said, I picked up Matt Moore, Kris Medlin, AJ Griffin and top prospect Jameson Taillon.Verlander, Moore, Medlin, AJ Griffin and my last Starter, Brett Oberholtzer, I feel like I have a rotation that can make some noise and I throw out the R-L-R-L-R starting 5, keeping teams off balance; with the hard throwing Taillon trying to push himself in the starting rotation.

The battery mate for the pitchers is Christian Vazquez, and Roberto Perez. 2 very solid catchers behind the plate, where I think Vazquez can grow to be gold glove caliber defensively . The other veteran in the lineup I have is Allen Craig at first base, where he was an all star in 2013, although he had a down 2014 due to nagging injuries. To fill out the rest of the roster, I wanted some youth ready to break out. Sluggers Jon Singleton, Joc Pederson to grow into the power hitters they showed in the minors. Adam Eaton patrols center field with his plus glove and speed at the top of my lineup. On the bench I have promising outfielder Jake Marisnick and steady vet Gregor Blanco ready to come in and platoon with any outfielder . Make utility infielder, Ryan Flaherty was picked mostly cause I went to high school with him

Closing games I have hard throwing Mike Foltynewicz. A starter in the minors, but I want to see what he has in the 9[sup]th[/sup] inning. Kevin Jepsen , Aaron Loup, Aaron Barrett, Kirby Yates, Martin Perez as live arms ready to win me some ball games

One pick that bothered me was the dude that grabbed Jose Reyes. Wanted him ideally at SS and the top of the order. Had to settle for Christian Guzman Jr. but so be it. Only reason I didn't go after Reyes a round earlier was I thought perhaps others would take umbrage with his "injury" issues which I feel like are always blown out of proportion.

I tried waiting on Lagares and outfielders in general, and I actually waited too long, but I'm satisfied with the way I pieced my OF together. Hopefully BJ Upton could keep his head clear and just make the most of his at bats. Hit the ball hard, make solid contact and let everything else unfold.

NT MLB Redraft

macbk, "The Artist Formally known as bkmac ” – Seattle Mariners

Youth is the name of the game…

Evaluation Process:
Gonna keep this short and sweet. Going into my Re-Draft I knew my best move was to go heavy on young arms and bats, while adding the necessary Vets to stabilize the lineup. Having Pick #20 left me with fairly decent opportunities to establish a well-rounded team. And while a few of my picks wound up being AP’d due to no-NT at work (if only my boss knew the severity of the Draft and how holding up others is just plain rude), I actually wasn’t mad at ‘em; they all fit well with my squad and can prove worthy (especially my first AP, Steve Pearce, in comparison to his real-life 2014 season and current Postseason success).

My Rotation
SP - Jose Fernandez
SP - Jonathan Niese
SP - Brandon McCarthy
SP – John Danks
SP - Archie Bradley
My first pick is a no-brainer for the Ace of my rotation. I like Niese’s stuff (looking back if I was going to take a Met starter I should have taken deGrom, but no regrets) in the 2nd spot. Went with McCarthy as my veteran honestly based off his success with my Yankees when he came over via trade (hoping we re-sign him). Danks was a rushed, last-minute pick because I didn’t want to keep holding up the draft.. but I think he will be another solid vet to have. And Archie Bradley as my #5 because at age 22 with strong potential due to his size and strong fastball/stellar curve, he’ll round up things nicely.

My Bullpen
RP - Latroy Hawkins
RP - Brandon League
RP - Adam Ottavino
RP - Zach McAllister
RP - Alfredo Aceves (Long Relief)
RP - Ross Detwiler
CP - David Robertson

Went with many familiar names with my pen. Father Time hasn’t found LaTroy Hawkins just yet. League, Ottavino, McAllister and Detwiler are solid arms who will likely go middle-relief, whereas Aceves will be my long-relief man. No brainer I was going with high-socks David Robertson as my Closer. (Was hoping to snag Betances at some point, but he was drafted before I had a chance).

My Lineup

Defensively
C - Francisco Cervelli
1B - Steve Pearce
2B - Martin Prado
3B - Colin Moran
SS - Jhonny Peralta
CF - Jacoby Ellsbury
LF - Byron Buxton
RF - Jordan Schafer
DH - Prince Fielder
Bench - Sean Rodriguez
Bench - Hank Conger
Bench - Elian Herrera
Bench - Jose Tabata

Vs LHP
1- Byron Buxton
2- Martin Prado
3- Jacoby Ellsbury
4- Prince Fielder
5- Steve Pearce
6- Jhonny Peralta
7- Jordan Schafer
8- Colin Moran
9- Francisco Cervelli

Vs RHP
1- Jordan Schafer
2- Martin Prado
3- Jacoby Ellsbury
4- Prince Fielder
5- Steve Pearce
6- Byron Buxton
7- Jhonny Peralta
8- Colin Moran
9- Francisco Cervelli

So my offense definitely won’t lead the league in many categories, but I’m hoping the likes of Ellsbury, Fielder and Prado can hold the fort with the rest of the lineup made of youth and middle-of-the-pack MLBers. Pearce and Peralta should be quality players as well. Went with Moran at 3B because of his age and for a tall, lanky kid, he has a nice glove. I actually like my OF the way I have it set up; Ellsbury manning in CF, with Buxton and Schafer, both youngsters, in the corners. Not too sure how often the sim will work the Bench (maybe Pro can answer that :nerd: ) , but I’m hoping a guy like Sean Rodriguez gets some playing time anywhere in the field like he’s capable of  .

There ya have it. Going to have to give a look at the AL West and see how my division rivals match-up in comparison to my squad. I’m hoping my staff and pen keep me in games because like I said, I don’t expect too much out of my offense, but I expect to put up a decent amount of runs per game.

Can't wait for this to get started!
